Course Description: Calculus is a beautiful and powerful tool. The goal of this
course will be to expand upon, sharpen, and use it. Well cover exponential, logarith-
mic, and trig functions, continue the study of integration, in particular developing a
handful of new techniques to handle some trickier integrals as well as exploring some
applications. The remainder of the semester will be devoted to sequences and series,
Taylors theorem, and, time permitting, a brief introduction to differential equations.
Prerequisites: MA123, MA121, or equivalent.
Homework: Homework will be assigned each lecture and due at the beginning of the
following class. Homework from the previous lecture will be returned graded. There will
be no homework assigned the night before an exam. The idea is to keep the homework
light (hopefully no more than 1-1.5 hours) and have you execute some of the techniques
learned during lecture while its fresh. All homework will be posted on Blackboard as
well as my website (listed at the top). Math is a skill acquired through practice, and
homework is where youll really learn the material.
Exams: There will be two midterms and a final. The format of the midterms will be
discussed in class as the date approaches. The final will be in class. There are no make
up exams - please notify me as far in advance as possible if you have an emergency that
will require you to miss any of the exams.

Grading: You grade will be a weighted sum of the homework and exams:

Midterm I: 20%
Midterm II: 20%
Final Exam: 20%
