Philippine parliament declared Rodrigo DigongDuterte to be president-elect:
Rodrigo DigongDuterte was officially declared to be the president-elect by the parliament of Philippines.
The joint session of the House of Representatives and the Senate also proclaimed Maria Leonor LeniRobredo as vice-
president.
Indian Air Force Participation in Exercise Desert Eagle II at UAE:
A bilateral Air Force exercise between India and United Arab Emirates (UAE) is underway at Al-Dhafra Air Base
in UAE from 24 May 16 to 03 Jun 16.
Ex-Desert Eagle-I with UAE Air Force was held at the same location in Sep 08. Su-30 MkI of the Indian Air Force and
Mirage 2000-9, F-16 of UAE Air Force are participating in the exercise.
Jordans King Abdullah dissolves parliament:
Jordans King Abdullah appointed veteran politician Hani Mulqi as caretaker
prime minister after dissolving parliament as its four-year term nears its end,
and charged him with organising new elections by October.
The king accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour before
appointing Mulqi by royal decree.
Worlds longest rail tunnel to be inaugurated in Switzerland:
In Switzerland, the world's longest and deepest rail tunnel, running under the
Swiss Alps, will be inaugurated today.
The 57-kilometer long Gotthard Base Tunnel will connect northern and southern
Europe and shorten travel time for many rail routes.
UNICEF to expedite operations in Greece to support migrant children:
The UN children's agency, UNICEF, has decided to scale up operations in Greece
to support twenty two thousand migrant children.
According to UNICEF's special coordinator for the refugee crisis in Europe, the organisation will support programmes by
the Greek government and other partners.
India, USA ink deal to exchange terrorist info
India and the USA signed an agreement to exchange terrorist screening information.
The agreement was signed by the Union Home Secretary, Rajiv Mehrishi and the Ambassador of USA to India,
Richard Verma.
India, Qatar MoU on tourism approved by Union Cabinet:
The Union Cabinet gave its approval for signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and
Qatar for strengthening cooperation in the field of Tourism.
The main objectives of the MoU are:
It will create favourable conditions for long-term co-operation in the field of tourism for the mutual benefits.
It will help in exchange of expertise, publications, information/data and statistics related to tourism.
It will encourage cooperation through the exchange of programmes, propaganda and advertising materials,
publications, films, promotion and marketing of their tourism products via media etc.
It will help in exchange visits of tour operators/media/opinion makers for promotion of two way tourism.
It will help in encouraging the co-operation between tourism sectors, tour operators, travel agents and other
tourism private sector's firms and bureaus in the two countries.
It will also help in encouraging public and the private sectors to invest in tourism.
Canada to enforce plain cigarette packaging:
Canada will make the plain packaging of cigarettes compulsory in an effort to reduce smoking, said the
Canadian health minister.
Britain and Australia had earlier made plain packaging of cigarettes compulsory.
France opens its first wine theme park'La Cit du Vin':
Spread across 10 levels, it has been constructed in the shape of a wine glass and offers interactive experiences for
guests. Guided tours of twenty theme areas and a wine-tasting for $22 per person will be part of the experience at the
new park.
India, US sign MoU on energy security, climate:

BRICS New Development Bank to issue first yuan-denominated bonds
The New Development Bank of the BRICS countries is set to issue its first yuan-denominated bonds with plans
to release more bonds in local currencies including in Indian Rupee.
The bank's first five-year yuan-denominated bonds, also referred as green bonds, will be issued after receiving
a rating from international ratings agencies as well as getting authorities' approval.
ICICI Bank cuts lending rate by 0.05%:
Country's largest private sector lender ICICI Bank has cut its marginal cost of funds-based lending rate (MCLR)
by 0.05 per cent, to take it at par with the rates offered by SBI and HDFC Bank.
This will help reduce the rate of interest to new borrowers.
India Post gets government nod to set up payments bank:
The government will set up 650 branches of the postal bank across the country by September 2017, Telecom Minister
Ravi Shankar Prasad announced.
Payments bank, aimed at improving financial inclusion, allows customers to transfer money or remittances using a
mobile phone
RBI directs banks to make cybersecurity policies
Banks must take necessary preventive and corrective measures for addressing cyber threats like denial of service,
ransomware, malware, business email frauds including spam, phishing, identity frauds, and password related frauds
among others, the RBI said.
Bombay Stock Exchange(BSE) gets RBI nod for e-bidding of gold bonds:
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) has said it has received approval from the RBI to start an online bidding
platform for the Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) scheme.
Under the initiative, gold-denominated bonds are issued by the government as an alternative to physical holding of
gold.
Pension body to hold awareness campaign on NPS
Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has said it will hold a 15-day campaign across
India from June 27 to spread awareness about the National Pension System (NPS).

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept its key rates unchanged in its second bi-monthly monetary policy for the
year 2016-17 announced in Mumbai.
Policy Repo Rate:6.50%
Reverse Repo Rate: 6.0%

Bank Rate:7.0%
CRR : 4%

ICICI Bank offers new services on iMobile
ICICI Bank has added five more features, including instant tax payment and rail ticket booking, on its mobile
banking app, iMobile.
Indias largest private sector bank said customers can also add an extra layer of security to their cheque-based
transactions with Positive Pay, apply for a personalised Expressions Debit Card and purchase travel & motor
insurance as well as mutual funds via its banking app.
Axis Bank launches Indias first certified green bond at London Stock Exchange:
Axis Bank has launched Indias first internationally-listed certified green bond to finance climate change
solutions around the world at London Stock Exchange (LSE).
The green bonds of Axis Bank were certified by the Climate Bonds Standards Board.

Sri Lanka seam bowler NuwanKulasekara retires from Test cricket:
Sri Lanka seam bowler NuwanKulasekara announced his retirement from
Tests with immediate effect on 1 June 2015. He continues his career in
limited over cricket.
The 33-year old seamer played 21 Test matches for Sri Lanka and picked up 48
wickets since his debut in April 2005.He played 173 ODIs and was ranked as the
No. 1 bowler in March 2009.
Novak Djokovic becomes the first player to win a $100m prize money
Serbian Top seed Novak Djokovic became the first professional tennis
player to earn $100 million in prize money after he made his 10th French
Open quarter-finals beating 14th seed Spain`s Roberto Bautista Agut by 3-6,
6-4, 6-1, 7-5 to move into his 28th consecutive Grand Slam quarter-final and
36th in all.
Argentina retain top spot in FIFA rankings:
Argentina and Belgium continue to hold on to the top two spots in the latest
FIFA rankings, with Colombia rounding up the top three.
India have fallen down one spot to 163, while England have been replaced in the top 10 by Austria.
BCCI allows women to compete in foreign leagues:
The decision, taken during a meeting of the BCCIs womens cricket committee, paves the way for Indias players to take
part in tournaments such as the Womens Big Bash League in Australia and the Womens Super League in England.

Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the most famous athlete in the world in the list of 100
most famous athletes released by ESPN.
Ronaldo is followed by NBA star LeBron James, Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Neymar, and Swiss Tennis player
Roger Federer. Indian cricketer ViratKohli is placed eighth in the list.
Paes-Hingis complete mixed doubles career slam:
Martina Hingis and Leander Paes each completed a career Grand Slam in mixed doubles after winning the
2016 French Open final against SaniaMirza and Ivan Dodig 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.
This was the 18th Grand Slam title and 10th in the mixed doubles for Paes while, for Hingis, it was the 22nd
Grand Slam of her career.
Indias ShubhamJaglan Clinches Maiden European Junior Golf Title:
ShubhamJaglan, Indias 11-year-old golf prodigy, bagged his first-ever European Junior Championship, by a
massive 13 strokes, at the Craigielaw Golf Club in Longniddry, Scotland.
The Haryana-lad also won the Junior World Golf Championships and Junior Golf Academy World Stars in 2015.
In 2013, he won the World Junior Golf Tournament.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) unveils first ever team of refugees:
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has unveiled its first ever team of refugees which will have 10
members and 12 officials and will compete at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games under the Olympic flag.
The team includes five athletes from South Sudan, two from Syria, two from Democratic Republic of Congo and one
from Ethiopia. The athletes, six men and four women, will compete in the sports of swimming, judo and athletics.
Muguruza beats Serena to win her 1st Grand Slam:
Spain's GarbieMuguruza won her maiden Grand Slam title after defeating the defending champion Serena
Williams 7-5, 6-4 in the French Open finals.
Judoka Avtar Singh books Rio Olympics berth:
Judoka Avtar Singh has qualified for the Rio Olympics in the under 90kg weight category, Judo Federation of
India said.
Besides winning a gold in South Asian Games in February, Avtar, who hails from Punjab, won gold medals in senior
national judo championships in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
