Prime Minister releases National Disaster Management Plan:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the first National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP), based on the four
priority themes of the Sendai Framework.
These include understanding disaster risk, improving the risk governance, investing in disaster risk reduction
and disaster preparedness, early warning and building back better in the aftermath of a disaster.
Vice President Hamid Ansari to deliver lecture at University in Morocco:
Vice President is scheduled to visit Jardin du Menara, the gardens established in the 12th century at the gates of the
mountain range in northwestern Africa known as the Atlas Mountains.
He will also pay a visit to the El Badi Palace, a centuries-old ruined palace located in the city.
Odisha government to create 500 more gram panchayats:
The Odisha government has decided to create 500 more gram panchayats in addition to the existing 6,234 ahead
of the panchayat elections due in February next year.
Panchayati Raj Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo said gram panchayats will be delimited and, in the process, 500 more
panchayats will be created.
India tops global slavery index with 18.35 million people enslaved:
India witnessed of having the highest number of people in the world ensnared in slavery with 18.35 million
according to the Global Slavery Index report, which estimated that around 46 million enslaved globally.The
report is released by: Australia-based Human rights group Walk Free Foundation.
Prime Minister approves retirement age of doctors of Central Health Services to 65 years
Central Government has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for enhancing the
retirement age of all doctors of the Central Health Service to 65 years.
The Cabinet will soon approve a Bill to increase the superannuation age of all central government doctors from 60
to 65 years.
Delhi Government Launches DVAT M SEWA Mobile App
Delhi Government has launched DVAT M SEWA mobile app through which city traders can register themselves
with the VAT department of the state government.
DVAT M SEWA mobile app is launched in order to boost the tax collection.
Indian Railways, PEC sign MoU to set up Kalpana Chawla Chair on geospatial technology
The Union Railways Ministry signed a MoU with Chandigarh-based PEC University of Technology to set up
Kalpana Chawla Chair on geospatial technology for her contribution to aerospace engineering.
The railways to provide a corpus of Rs 10 crore to the University for the Chair.
National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC) to launch Ganga cleaning project in Bihar:
National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC) in the last week of May 2016 announced that it will
soon launch a project aimed at cleaning River Ganga in Bihar.
Detailed project reports have been approved the Ministry of Water Resources for three towns.
Key highlights of the project:
NBCC will undertake cleaning of debris.
It will construct new ghats and modernise the existing ghats.
It will repair and clean the river surface.
It will construct crematorium and public facilities such as toilets.
It will also set up a village drainage system in order to curb direct discharge into the river.
India and Morocco launch Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Rabat, Morocco:
The chamber was jointly launched by visiting Vice President Hamid Ansari and Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah
Benkirane, to accelerate the pace of economic development between the two nations.
Besides, India and Morocco have concluded five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering fields as
diverse as water resources, television broadcasting, institutional cooperation and cultural and educational exchanges,
further providing venues for enhanced cooperation.
India and World Bank sign agreement to improve efficiency and attractiveness of City Bus Services:
The Government of India and the World Bank signed a 9.2 million US dollar
grant agreement under the World Bank-Global Environment Facility (GEF)
Programme for the Efficient and Sustainable City Bus Service Project.
Union Cabinet approves MoU between DGCA and French Civil Aviation Authority:
The Union Cabinet gave its ex-post facto approval to the signing of
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Directorate General of
Civil Aviation of India (DGCA) and the French Civil Aviation Authority.
The MoU was signed to implement Technical Cooperation Programme for promotion
and implementation of Standards and Recommended Practices of the International
Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
India gifts 2,000 bicycles to poor dalit girls in Nepal:
India has gifted 2,000 bicycles to poor dalit girls in Nepal to encourage them to
enroll in schools and enhance the literacy rate among them.
Apart from this, the Government of India has been extending assistance to various

programmes for improvement of education and health services in all districts of Nepal, like gifting 59
ambulances.
National Film Archive of India (NFAI) acquires film songbooks:
The National Film Archive of India yesterday acquired 1,790 songbooks of Hindi films belonging to every decade
of the country's cinematic heritage.
NFAI has appealed to the public to come forward with rare, archival material that will help in conserving India's
heritage, under the umbrella project of National Film Heritage Mission.
Andhra Pradesh government to observe Navanirmana Week to commemorate state's new formation day:
The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to observe Navanirmana Week to commemorate the state's new
formation day, from 2nd to 8th June, 2016.
The programme of the Navanirmana Week will be launched by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
Telangana Government announces 15 new districts:
The districts will be created by redrawing the boundaries of the ten existing districts, and will come into existence on
Dussehra, the government said.The state also hoisted the second tallest tricolour flag, at 291-feet, in Hyderabad.
Odisha becomes first state to give social welfare benefits to transgender community:
Niten Chandra, Principal Secretary of Department of Social Security said it aims to improve their overall social and
economic status.
2 Indian-origin women in Forbes self-made American women list:
India-born Neerja Sethi, who is a co-founder of IT consulting and outsourcing firm Syntel with her husband Bharat
Desai ranked 16th on Americas Richest Self-made Women list while president and CEO of Arista Networks Jayshree
Ullal is ranked 30th.
India to grant tourist, e-visa for Yoga courses:
The government has decided to include a short term yoga programme in the list of permissible activities under the
tourist and e-tourist visa. Presently, tourist visa is granted only for visiting India for recreation and sight-seeing among
other things.
India among top five in 2015 in green energy spending:
According to a Global Renewables Report 2015 India being ranked among the top five nations in new
investments, and in the top four as regards creating jobs in the green energy sector.
Indias investments in renewable energy sector increased to $10.2 billion in 2015, when compared to $8.3 billion in 2014.

India joins Hague Code of Conduct against Ballistic Missile Proliferation:
India joined the Hague Code of Conduct (HCoC) against Ballistic Missile Proliferation as its 138th subscribing
state.
Indias joining the Code signals its readiness to further strengthen global non-proliferation objectives. Its subscription
reinforces its support for international missile non-proliferation.
Constitution of National Company Law Tribunal and Appellate Tribunal Notified:
Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) notified the constitution of the National Company Law Tribunal
(NCLT) and National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) with immediate effect.
Justice SJ Mukhopadhaya, Judge (Retd.), Supreme Court of India appointed as the Chairperson of the NCLAT while Justice
MM Kumar, Judge (Retd.) appointed as the President of the NCLT.
Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approves Mau-Tarighat Railway line project:
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave its approval for a new broad gauge line between Mau
Station of North Eastern Railway and Tarighat Terminal station of East Central Railway.
The total length of this new broad gauge line will be 51 kilometers with the estimated cost of the project is 1765.92 crore
and expected completion cost is 2109.07 crore rupees with 5 percent escalation per annum.
PM inaugurates Afghan-India Friendship Dam in Herat:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani jointly inaugurated the Afghan India
Friendship Dam, earlier know as Salma Dam in Herat.
One thousand seven hundred crore rupee Afghan-India Friendship Dam is a multipurpose project, which is
undertaken by India is expected to irrigate 75 thousand hectares of land and generate 42 mega watt power.
Government to launch Shala Asmita Yojana this month: Smriti Irani
Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani has said government will launch Shala Asmita Yojana, it
aims at tracking the educational journey of close to 25 crore school students from Class I to Class XII across 15
lakh schools in the country.
Asian Development Bank (ADB), government sign deal for $200M loan to Jharkhand:
The government signed an agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the latter to loan $200 million
to upgrade 176 km of state roads in Jharkhand.

The total cost of the project, due to be completed by December 2019, is $306.25 million. The Jharkhand state government
will finance the remaining amount, the Finance Ministry said.
CCEA approved Minimum Support Prices for Kharif Crops for 2016-17 Season:
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved for
Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for Kharif Crops of 2016-17 season.
The approved MSP is based on recommendations of Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) which takes
into account the cost of production, overall demand-supply among others.
India will not have power deficit for the first time in history:
The country will have a surplus of 3.1% during peak hours and 1.1% during non-peak hours during 2016-17, latest data
from the Central Electricity Authority shows.
This is the first time that the country has declared a year of no shortage though many regions have had power surplus for
shorter periods.
Singapore International Arbitration Centre to open Representative Office at GIFT City:
Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) in June 2016 signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with
Gujarat International Finance Tec-City Company Limited (GIFTCL) and GIFT SEZ Limited (GIFT SEZ) to establish a
representative office in India.The representation office will be located in the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City
(GIFT City).
Assam Assembly passes Ease of Doing Business Bill, 2016:
The bill has the provision for speedy processing of applications and issue of clearances for setting up industries.
The basic aim of the bill is to create an investment-friendly environment for economic development of the state.
The bill provides for establishing a bureau under the name and style of Assam Bureau of Investment Promotion for the
purpose of overall supervision and administration of the speedy processing of applications and issue of various
clearances.
Amritsar to get 1947 partition Museum:
A museum dedicated to the Partition of India in 1947 will be set up at the Town Hall in Amritsar.This was
announced by Kishwar Desai, Chair of the Arts and Cultural Heritage Trust, which has initiated the project.
Swachh Bharat: 100 iconic sites to be cleaned
Ten iconic places have been shortlisted for the implementation during its first phase.
This includes Taj Mahal (UP), Golden Temple (Punjab), Ajmer Sharif (Rajasthan), Vaishno Devi (J&K), Jagannath
Puri (Odisha), Meenakshi Temple (Tamil Nadu) among others.
Government announces national competition for students:
HRD Minister Smriti Irani announced that the government will start a national-level competition to promote
research and innovation among students from August 15.
Under this, students will submit their research proposals and contribute their ideas directly to the central government.
Himachal Pradesh becomes first state to have State Data Centre:
Launching the 58-crore rupees facility in Shimla yesterday, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said the Centre will
integrate the websites of various departments and all services could be accessible through the integrated data
base.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister also inaugurated Mobile Parking App for the Shimla town.
Asia's first Gyps Vulture Reintroduction Programme launched:
The Haryana Government launched Asia's First Gyps Vulture Reintroduction Programme at Jatayu Conservation
Breeding Centre, Pinjore.
Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar jointly
released two Himalayan Griffons into the wild from the Conservation Centre.
MoU signed to facilitate hassle-free entry of Indians into US:
To facilitate hassle-free entry of Indians into the US at selected airports, India and the United States have signed a
Memorandum of Understanding, providing for expedited security clearances.
The MoU was signed between Indian Ambassador to US, Arun K Singh and Kevin K McAleenan, Deputy
Commissioner of the US Customs and Border Protection.
Centre plans setting up satellite port in Goa:
The Centre is planning to build a satellite port in Goa, 35 km from the state's Mormugao Port Trust, in a joint
venture with the state government, Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari said.
Andhra to get two high-speed railway lines:
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Saturday said high-speed railway lines will be built from Visakhapatnam to
Chennai and Bengaluru to Andhra Pradesh's capital city of Amaravati in collaboration with foreign countries.
Chief Minister of Haryana lays foundation stone of Jai jawan awas Yojana:
The Chief Minister of Haryana, Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, the Chief of Army Staff, General Dalbir Singh and other
dignitaries at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Jai Jawan Awas Yojna (JJAY), in Bahadurgarh, Haryana.
The project is being executed by Army Welfare Housing Organization and aims to provide low-cost housing.
Telangana-California ink MoU for cooperation:
Telangana government has signed an MoU with California (US) for cooperation in fields of business innovation,
alternative energy, and education.

This MoU will open new avenues for exchange of innovative ideas between startups in Telangana and Silicon Valley,"
Telangana officials said.
Kerala coastline to be plastic and garbage-free:
Kerala government has decided to make the state's 590 km-long coastline "plastic and garbage free" by the end
of this month, Kerala Fisheries Minister Mercykutty Amma said today.
Plastic and solid waste will be collected separately and handed over to the Clean Kerala Company.
Indias 1st green swearing-in ceremony organised:
Dr K Vasuki, Executive Director of government-recognised sanitation agency Suchitwa Mission, recently
organised Indias first green and waste-free swearing-in ceremony in Kerala.
At the swearing-in ceremony of the Cabinet members of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the state, steel glasses were
arranged along with the facility of cleaning them at regular intervals, among other things.
Army partners Tata Motors for skill development:
The Indian Army, under its welfare and development initiative Operation Sadbhavna, has tied up with Tata
Motors for the training of youth from Kashmir as automobile service technicians.
India has a floating post office:
India has a floating post office, situated on a houseboat on the Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
Inaugurated in 2011, the post office also has a philately museum and a shop selling postage stamps and other products.
Gujarat government announces IT policy to promote new ventures:
The policy has special focus on encouraging new ventures by providing them various incentives and subsidies.
Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel announced the policy, which will be applicable only to IT and electronics
related start-ups.
Post Offices to witness core banking operations by 2017:
Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad said a slew of measures
taken by the Centre have resulted in the flow of FDIs into the country with telecom sector attracting around
27,000 crore rupees in just two years.
Mr. Prasad said, Post Offices in the country are going to witness core banking operations by 2017 with 1.33 lakh
postmen carrying handheld ATMs.
Gadkari launches Setu Bhartam project in Himachal Pradesh:
Union Minister for Road Transport, Surface and shipping Nitin Gadkari launched Setu Bhartam project in
Himachal Pradesh from Palampur town in the Kangra District.
Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, BJP MP Shanta Kumar and Opposition Leader
Prem Kumar Dhumal were also present on the occasion.
Prabhu flags off semi-luxury train Tiger Express:
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu flagged off IRCTC's Tiger Express, a semi-luxury train to spread awareness
among people regarding tiger conservation.
It is the first semi-luxury train on a tourist circuit having a dining car, with tariff
structure starting from Rs.38,500.
Government to set up 6 bulk drug, medical device parks:
To reduce import dependence, the government has decided to establish six bulk
drug and medical devices parks across India, which will require a combined
investment of about 60,000 crore, said Fertiliser Minister Ananth Kumar.
Public Grievance Redressal Act launched in Bihar:
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched the Bihar Public Grievance
Redressal Act, empowering the public to get their grievances redressed within a
specified time frame.
Government in Arunachal town to observe car-free day:
Government officials will observe a vehicle-free day on the seventh of every
month in and around Tezu town in Arunachal Pradesh.
The move has been taken to benefit the environment and reduce government expenditure on fuel.
Odisha becomes first Indian state to give pension and food benefits to transgenders:
The state took the step to give the transgender community the same benefits as those living below the poverty line. The
step was aimed at improving their overall social and economic status.
Cambridge, MIT experts to design Indian syllabi:
Union Minister Smriti Irani said that experts from universities like Cambridge, MIT, and University of
Pennsylvania have been brought on board to help design syllabi of higher education institutions.
The move was announced under the Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan.
32 DTH channels to live-telecast IIT lectures:
Aimed at expanding the reach of high-quality education, the live classrooms will be available for free on Doordarshan's
FreeDish DTH platform.
The government has signed MoUs with various institutions for the project, which is expected to be operational by August.
Guwahati declares Gangetic River Dolphin as its city animal:
Guwahati became first city in the country to have its own city animal with Kamrup metropolitan district
administration declaring Gangetic River Dolphin as its mascot.

Gangetic River Dolphin is locally known as Sihu and fewer than 2000 such animals remain in the River Brahmaputra
along Guwahati.
Delhi Government approves solar policy with 1 GW target by 2020:
The policy aims at making the national capital a solar city with installation of 1 GW solar power capacity by
2020. This target is proposed to double it to 2 GW during further next five years.
Swachh Yug campaign to make gram panchayats along Ganga open defecation free:
The campaign, being a collaborative effort between the Swachh Bharat Mission, local youth leaders () and the
Namami Gange project () - is being called Swachh -, which translates into the age of Swachh.
WCD Ministry holds first ever All India Women Journalists workshop:
The Conference will bring together 250 journalists on a single platform. The women journalists represent print,
electronic and online media across the country including small and regional media organizations.
The Ministry is organizing workshop in association with Press Information Bureau, Ministry of Information and
Broadcasting.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana to be launched in Odisha:
In Odisha, state-level launch of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana to provide free of cost LPG cooking gas
connections to women from BPL households will be held in Sambalpur on 20th of this month.
Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan are scheduled to flag it off.
The scheme has already been launched regionally by the Centre in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
India, ADB sign $120 mn loan pact for irrigation in Odisha:
India today signed loan agreement of USD 12 crore with the Asian Development Bank in New Delhi to improve
irrigation and water management infrastructure in Odisha.
Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Raj Kumar said that agriculture is a priority sector for the country
and especially for Odisha because of its high potential to generate jobs and contribute to inclusive and sustainable
economic growth.
Uttrakhand government to reduce land circle rates by 50%:
The Uttarakhand government has decided to reduce land circle rates in urban and peri-urban areas by around
50%.
The state government had effected a 10%-30% increase in land circle rates, drawing flak from several quarters
and opposition BJP.
Western Railway observes safety awareness week:
The awareness campaign will be conducted among school and college students and panchayats, and safety drives will be
held at level crossings.
Jharkhand govt to launch medical cover for poor:
Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das on Monday said that medical insurance of 2 lakh will be launched for
Below Poverty Line (BPL) families for the treatment of serious ailments.
They will also be given an insurance cover of 50,000 for common diseases.
All train coaches to have bio-toilets by 2019:
Indian Railways has decided to install bio-toilets in all coaches to ensure the entire rail network is a zero
discharge zone by 2019, ahead of the earlier decided 2021, Railway Board Chairman AK Mittal announced.
According to the plan, 1.40 lakh bio-toilets will be installed during the next three years, while 37,000 have already been
installed.
India becomes co-chair of Working Group on Maritime Situational Awareness under CGPCS:
This decision was taken through a consensus during the 19th Plenary Session of the CGPCS that took place in Mahe,
Seychelles during 31 May 3 June 2016.
Draft National Water Framework Bill, 2016 released:
The Union Ministry of Water Resources released the Draft National Water Framework Bill, 2016 to invite
comments and suggestions from public.
The proposed Act provides an overarching national legal framework with principles for protection, conservation,
regulation and management of water as a vital and stressed natural resource.
Centre to introduce International Yoga Award Scheme:
The Centre has decided to introduce International Yoga Award Scheme with a view to promote yoga. The AYUSH
Ministry today said, it is working on the scheme and will start giving the award from 2017.
The theme of the conference is Yoga for Holistic Health - Recent Researches.
The conference aimed at ensuring wider dissemination of benefits of Yoga to the public through the the media.
AYUSH minister to inaugurate National Health Editors meet on Yoga today:
Minister of State for AYUSH,Shripad Yesso Naik, will inaugurate a National Health Editors' Conference in New
Delhi today.
The theme of the conference is Yoga for Holistic Health - Recent Researches.
India all set to become member of Missile Technology Control Regime:
India is all set to become a member of Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) as it cleared final hurdles in
getting the membership of the key anti-proliferation grouping.
Membership of MTCR will help India procure high-end missile technology and surveillance systems by leading
manufacturers which are allowed to be accessed only by MTCR member countries.

Centre to open 100 Jan Aushadhi Kendras in Bihar:
Union Chemical and Fertiliser Minister Anant Kumar said, the Central Government will open 100 Jan Aushadhi
Kendras in Bihar.
He said, after opening Jan Aushadhi Kendras, people will get life saving drugs at low price. The Union Minister alleged
that Bihar Government is not providing land to open these centres in the state.
Joint Indo-Korean coast guard exercise held in Chennai:
An Indo-Korean joint coast guard four day exercise Sahyog Hyeoblyeog 2016 held off Chennai coast from June
8.
Aimed at further strengthening the relationship between the coast guards of the two countries and refine joint operating
procedures
Korea Coast Guard ship 3009 would visit Chennai between June 8 to 11, adding the exercise includes anti-piracy
drills, search and rescue demonstrations and external fire fighting.
Rajasthan Government launches mobile app RajVayu on Air Quality Index:
Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has launched mobile application RajVayu for sharing information
about air quality index of Jaipur, Udaipur and Jodhpur.
Rajasthan becomes first state in country to launch such app for sharing information about air quality index of
cities.
Vasundhara Raje also launched another application named Drishti for monitoring of pollution levels in
industrial regions.
Kiran Bedi bans use of siren in VIP cars in Puducherry:
Lt Governor Kiran Bedi has banned the use of siren in cars of VIPs in Puducherry and got the backing of Chief
Minister V Narayanasamy who said it was aimed at making the union territory prosperous.
All India Radio completes 80 years on June 8:
On this day in 1936 the Indian State Broadcasting Service became All India Radio. From then it has been a roller coaster
ride for the broadcaster which took on another name in 1956: Akashvani.
Union Sports Minister Jitendra Singh announces upgradation, new stadium in J&K:
The Minister announced that Rs 42 crore has been allocated for the upgradation of
Jammus Maulana Azad Stadium.In addition to stadia in Jammu and Srinagar (Bakshi
Stadium), the existing stadia in Poonch and Rajouri will also be upgraded at the cost of Rs 4
crore.
Railway Minister lays foundation stone for 8 rail projects in Gujarat:
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in Mehsana laid foundation stone for eight
different rail projects, including the much awaited line doubling between
Surendranagar and Rajkot.
The projects include Ahmedabad-Mehsana gauge conversion with electrification,
Mehsana-Taranga Hill gauge conversion, Vatva-Ahmedabad third line, Modasa-Shamlaji
new line, Bhuj-Naliya gauge conversion, Somnath-Kodinar new line, Miyagam-Samlaya
gauge conversion and Surendranagar-Rajkot line doubling in Saurashtra region.

Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu launched an Integrated Social Media platform to take care of passengers'

The posts will be first analysed by the Railway Board's Social Media Cell and then forwarded to the concerned Divisional
Railways Manager (DRM) to take prompt action on the matter.
Grievance redressal app for panchayats in Bengal:
West Bengal Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee launched a bilingual grievance redressal app, Panchayat
Pratikar, across the state's gram panchayats.
All complaints would be recorded, a reply would be given on the mobile and redressal would be provided within 72
working hours, Mukherjee said.
The status of the complaint will also be traceable on the net or mobile, he added.

Government increases buffer stock of pulses by 5 times:
The Government increased the buffer stock of pulses by over five times from 1.5 lakh tonnes to 8 lakh tonnes.
The stock will be created by direct procurement from farmers at market prices.
Maharashtra government to use plastic wastes to build roads:
Maharashtra government has decided to use plastic waste along with tar in the building of roads.
The Centre had recommended the use of plastic waste as it improves the quality of roads and reduces soil pollution
caused by the plastics, state officials said.
CSIR-Central Road Research Institute also assured the government that such roads would be cheaper and more

Government gives nod to six international agreements:
The government gave its nod to six international agreements in science and technology, air travel and labour
welfare.
The agreement between the Earth Sciences Ministry and the International Seabed Authority will allow India to undertake
exploration of high-value mineral deposits in the Indian Ocean.
Another agreement relates to improving air connectivity between India and Taiwan.
Government to give unique ID cards to disabled persons:
India is implementing a project to provide unique identification cards to persons with disabilities, Secretary,
Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry, told the UN.
The move is aimed at creating a database that lets the government track their education and employment status.
Further, the first Central University for Disability Studies and Research will be set up in Kerala, the official
added.
Sikkim to start courses on endangered languages:
The University Grants Commission has allowed Sikkim University to start two-year post-graduate degree
courses in Lepcha and Limbu languages, which are enlisted as 'endangered' by UNESCO.
The varsity would be the first in the country to offer post-graduate courses in these endangered languages.
The courses including one for the Bhutia language would be taught from the academic session in August.

Union Cabinet approved Bill to fast track recovery of bad loans:
The Union Cabinet approved the Enforcement of Security Interest and Recovery of Debts Laws and Miscellaneous
Provisions (Amendment) Bill, 2016. It was introduced in the Lok Sabha on 11 May 2016.

The Centre is preparing to take the coastal security to the third phase and more reforms will be executed in the next five
years, Singh said after chairing coastal security meet in Mumbai.
Railway Ministry launched Liberalised Policies on Parcel Leasing and Parcel Cargo Train Express:
Ministry of Railways launched two polices related to Parcel Leasing and Parcel Cargo Train Express.
These policies were launched by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in a programme held in New Delhi.
These policies were launched as part of Rail Budget announcement of the fiscal year 2016-17. It seeks to make the policy
related to Parcel more liberalized and customer friendly.
National Civil Aviation Policy 2016 released:
The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) released National Civil Aviation Policy (NCAP) 2016.
The policys mission is to provide safe, secure, affordable and sustainable air travel for passengers and air
transportation of cargo with access to various parts of India and the world.
Government imposes 20% duty on export of sugar:
To increase domestic supply and check the rising prices of sugar, the government imposed a 20% customs duty
on the export of raw, white, or refined sugar.
This comes amid rising prices of various commodities including tomato, wheat, and pulses.
Notably, India is the world's second-largest sugar producer and has exported 1.6 million tonnes sugar since
October 2015.
Union Cabinet approves MoU between ISRO and Canadian Space Agency:
The Union Cabinet has approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indian Space Research
Organization (ISRO) and Canadian Space Agency (CSA) on cooperation in the field of outer space.
The MoU was signed between two parties in Ottawa, Canada in April 2015.
It will lead to establishment of joint team, drawing members from CSA and ISRO.
India, Namibia sign two MoUs:
India and Namibia have signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during the final leg of President
Pranab Mukherjees three-nation African visit.
The two signed MoUs include MoU on Capacity building for civil servants of Namibia.
Mou on setting up of centre of excellence in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
President returns home after concluding his three nation visit:
President Pranab Mukherjee returned home after a six day visit to Ghana, Ivory
Coast and Namibia where he met top leaders of these countries and inked important
agreements.
He reiterated Indias commitment to deepen ties and cooperation with all African
countries.

Three women flight cadets made history today as they were commissioned as
fighter pilots in the Indian Air Force for the first time ever.

outskirts of Hyderabad.

Government clears Rs. 300 Crore under Swadesh Darshan scheme:
The Centre has cleared Rs.300 crore for the makeover of Ramayana and Krishna circuits of Uttar Pradesh under
the Swadesh Darshan scheme, aiming to develop theme based tourist circuits in the country.
Under the Ramayana circuit, 11 destinations spread across six states, including Ayodhya, and under the Krishna circuit,
12 destinations spread across five states, comprising Dwarka, were proposed.
NCERT to organise 3-day 'Yoga Olympiad' from tomorrow:
After science and mathematics Olympiad, the NCERT is set to organise the first ever 'Yoga Olympiad' for all
government and government-aided schools students ahead of the International Yoga Day on June 21.
NCERT Director Hrushikesh Senapaty told reporters in New Delhi that three-day event will begin today and culminate
on the eve of the International Yoga Day with an award ceremony to be attended by HRD minister Smriti Irani.
Theme of the Olympiad is 'Yoga for Health and Harmony'.
States resolve to provide 24x7 power to everyone by Mar 2019:
Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal has said all the states have resolved to provide round-the-clock power
supply to every household by March 2019.
The Power Minister also announced the launch of the helpline '1912' for redressal of consumer's complaints
across the country.
Government decides to allow export of 10% missile systems to friendly countries:
Government has decided in principle to allow export of missile systems to 'certain' countries who have friendly
relationship with India.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said the government had taken a very conscious decision that 10 per cent of
the missile capacity will be permitted to be exported if producers manage to get export orders subject to parameters set
by the union government and External Affairs Ministry.
Earlier, Parrikar flagged off the inaugural flight of India's indigenous basic trainer aircraft HTT 40 designed and
developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
Odisha to invest Rs.1,000 Crore for skill development:
While inaugurating the Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA), the state's Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik
said his government will invest Rs.1,000 crore over the next three years towards skill development.
The funds will be used for setting up of eight advanced skill development centres, besides upgrading existing institutes in
order to train eight lakh individuals, he added.
Jammu &Kashmir to develop new travel destinations:
The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Board is planning to give tourism a boost by developing new destinations
within the state.
The government allocated 14 new places to be developed into tourist destinations.
Under the initiative, places like Toosa Maidan and Bungus Valley would be turned into eco-tourism destinations
and locals would be trained to host tourists, boosting residents' livelihood.
Haryana to have India's 1st AYUSH university:
The Haryana government on Saturday gave its approval to set up an AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy,
Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) University, the first-of-its-kind in India.
The university, to be formed by upgrading Shri Krishna Government Ayurvedic College in Kurukshetra, would offer
undergraduate and postgraduate courses in all the AYUSH systems, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said.

The Assam government has announced free admission for Divyang students in government institutes.
State Education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the initiative will implement from this year.
Earlier, Education department announced free education up to undergraduate level for all students from poor and lower

IRCTC launches mobile app to book air tickets:
The IRCTC has launched an Android mobile app 'IRCTC Air' which enables booking of air tickets for travel within
India and abroad.
A maximum of nine passengers are allowed for booking on one PNR by paying Rs.10 as convenience fee.
Delhi to pay social security pensions monthly:
The Delhi government has decided to disburse old age, physical disability, and widow pensions on a monthly
basis starting July, instead of making quarterly payments.
The move is aimed at easing the financial problems faced by the beneficiaries in the city, reportedly comprising of 3.88
lakh old people, 1.6 lakh widows and 63,000 people with physical disabilities.

Centre approves proposal for Greenfield Electronic Park in Odisha:
The Centre has approved a proposal of the Odisha government for the development of Greenfield Electronic Park
spread over an area of 203 acres in Bhubaneswar.
With an investment of Rs. 205 crore, the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation which is
developing the electronic park, will house around 100 units of an electronic manufacturing cluster with state-of-the-
art infrastructure and common facilities.
Government to bear full coaching cost for SC students:
Under a revised central sector scheme, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment will now bear the entire
expenditure incurred by SC and OBC students on coaching for competitive examinations.
Earlier, the government paid a maximum coaching fee of Rs.20,000 per candidate.
The Ministry will also empanel reputed coaching institutes to provide quality coaching to the said students.
Odisha announces cash incentives for districts:
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced cash incentives for districts that successfully implement
various government programmes.
The incentives include cash prizes up to Rs.1 crore for best performance in schemes like disbursement of pucca
houses, skill development, and employment generation, among others.
This will promote a healthy competition among the districts, Patnaik said.

Punjab has become the first state in India to provide free treatment to confirmed cases of Hepatitis C.
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal launched the 'Mukh Mantri Punjab Hepatitis C Relief Fund', with an initial
contribution of Rs.20 crore, for providing the free treatment. According to reports, around six lakh people require
Hepatitis C treatment in Punjab.

The government can provide free telephone services within the region through internet which means you can

Government approves 100% FDI in defence, caviation, pharma under automatic route:
Government today approved 100 per cent FDI in a host of sectors including civil aviation, defence, pharma and
single brand retail sector under automatic route.
Other sectors in which FDI norms have been relaxed include e-commerce in food products, broadcasting carriage
services, private security agencies and animal husbandry.
President Pranab Mukherjee to inaugurate Mass Yoga Demonstration:

Himachal government launches skill development project:
The Himachal Pradesh government has launched a Rs.640 crore project for skill development under which
multipurpose training centres will be set up in rural areas.
The training, to be given by both government and private associations, will be accessible to all people aged between 16-
49, including BPL families.
Individuals will be trained in tourism, agriculture and banking sectors, among others
PM Modi to get new 'Air India One' plane
PM Narendra Modi is set to get a new aircraft, Air India One, which will be equipped with hi-tech security
equipment and latest communication facilities.
The aircraft can store food for 2,000 people, withstand grenade and rocket attacks, has air-to-air refuelling facilities,
operation theatre for emergency along with broadband and anti-missile defence systems.
PM Modi releases stamps on Surya Namaskara:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released postage stamps on Surya Namaskara to mark the second International

The stamps, of Rs.5 and Rs.25, depict the 12 asanas constituting the Surya Namaskara.

Government releases draft National Forest Policy:
The Environment Ministry has released the draft National Forest Policy, which if enforced, will replace the
current 1988 policy.
It seeks to levy a green tax for facilitating ecologically responsible behaviour and has proposed to establish National and
State Boards of Forestry.
2,000 women set world record in prenatal yoga:
Nearly 2,000 pregnant women set a new world record by performing yoga in Rajkot, Gujarat, on the occasion of
International Yoga Day.
Further, 8,000 children in Gujarat set a world record by making a human chain, CM Anandiben Patel said.
First-ever National Yoga Olympiad held in Delhi
The first-ever National Yoga Olympiad was held in Delhi from June 18-20. Organised by the NCERT, the olympiad
saw participation from 321 children from 21 states and union territories.
HRD Minister Smriti Irani distributed 48 medals at the olympiad, where the participants were tested on the yogic
practices of asana, pranayam, kriya, dhyana, bandha, and mudra.
Union Government bans use of Potassium Bromate as food additive:
The Union Government banned use of potassium bromate (KbrO3) as a food additive on recommendation of
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
FSSAI in its recommendation asked health ministry to remove potassium bromate, a cancer causing chemical, from the
list of permissible food additives.
Punjab government launches Mukh Mantri Punjab Hepatitis C Relief Fund:
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal launched the fund titled Mukh Mantri Punjab Hepatitis C Relief Fund
to provide free treatment for patients affected by Hepatitis C.
With this initiative, Punjab became the first Indian state to provide free treatment to confirmed cases of Hepatitis
C.
Delhi starts portal to facilitate student loans
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched an online portal to facilitate loans to financially weak students
who wish to pursue higher studies in the city after class 12.
Students in Delhi should not be denied quality education due to lack of resources, he asserted. He claimed that no bank
can deny loan applications under this initiative.
Railways' new rules to be effective from July 1:
The new set of rules introduced by the Indian Railways, including 50% refund of the amount paid for a tatkal
ticket, will be effective from July 1.
Further, the number of coaches on Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express will be increased, IRCTC ticket bookings will begin in
various languages and a 'wake-up call destination' will be given to passengers in trains.
Madhya Pradesh inks MoU with Chinese firm on $1bn investment:
The Madhya Pradesh government signed an MoU with Chinese heavy machinery manufacturing firm Sany Group
for working on investment proposals worth $1 billion.
Sany Group reportedly expressed interest in investing in the state's energy sector and industrial infrastructure.
CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said his government will ensure ease of business for the firm in the state.
Delhi launches project to ease school admissions:

The Delhi government launched a pilot project to facilitate easy procurement of certificates needed for school
admissions.
Under this initiative, one teacher or IT person from each school will be trained help students obtain the required
certificates in the school itself, eliminating the need for them to visit the District Magistrates office, Deputy Chief
Minister Manish Sisodia said.
Cabinet approves biggest ever spectrum auction
The Union Cabinet approved the spectrum auction plan which is estimated to fetch at least Rs.5.36 lakh crore,
biggest spectrum auction ever for the Indian telecom industry, following recommendations from the Department of
Telecommunications.
The government will be putting up the premium and efficient 700 Mhz band up for auction for the first time ever.
Government okaysRs 10,000 crore corpus for Startups:
The Cabinet has approved setting up of Fund of Funds for Startups under Small Industries Development Bank of
India (SIDBI) for extending support to Startups.
The corpus of FFS is Rs 10,000 crore, which will be built up over the 14th and 15th Finance Commission cycles.
The Fund is expected to generate employment for 18 lakh persons.
Maharashtra to set up anti-terrorism school for cops:
The Maharashtra Cabinet approved a proposal to set up a Counter-Insurgency and Anti-Terrorist school at
Nagpur to train police and other security forces in combating left-wing extremism and militancy.
It will provide "state-of-the-art" training facilities for jungle and field tactics, ambush, and handling of weapons.
Maharashtra cabinet approves minority status for Jews:
The decision will allow members of the community avail state government scholarships and establish their own
educational institutes, Chief Minister DevendraFadnavissaid.
According to the 2001 Census, there were 4,650 Jews living in India, with 2,466 of them in Maharashtra.
Nagpur and China's Jinan become 'sister cities':
Nagpur and the Chinese city of Jinan became 'sister cities' after signing a pact which allows for the exchange of
ideas and technology in the field of education, urban planning, youth affairs, and sports.
The agreement, which will be executed for five years, also allows Nagpur to seek financial assistance from Jinan to
execute development projects.
Assam starts SMS drive for tobacco-free schools
The Assam government has started an SMS campaign to ensure that all educational institutions in the state are
tobacco-free.
Heads of government educational institutions were sent reminders to ensure that anti-tobacco signages are put up and
tobacco use is banned in the premises.
Banda Singh Bahadur commemorative coin released:
Finance Minister ArunJaitley released a commemorative silver coin to mark the 300th martyrdom day of Sikh
General Banda Singh Bahadur. Jaitley said Bahadur (1670-1716) was a great leader, who fought the Mughals and
established the first sovereign Sikh state.
Notably, Guru Gobind Singh had conferred the title 'Bahadur' and appointed Banda Singh his deputy and military
lieutenant.
Aadhaar to be linked with caste, domicile certificates:
Union Government asked all state governments to link Aadhaar with caste and domicile certificates of school
students.
Under first-of-its-kind initiative, the states have been asked to ensure that such certificates are issued within 60 days
time to the students when they are studying either in Class V or VIII.
Andhra Postal circle releases stamps on Yoga booklet:
To commemorate the 2nd International Day of Yoga, Andhra Pradesh Postal circle on 21 June 2016 released
Information booklet, Stamps on Yoga and 12 stamps on Suryanamaskarams.
The booklet and stamps were released to encourage customers and employees to take to yoga. He said the special stamps

FM ArunJaitley to embark on 5-day China visit today:
Finance Minister ArunJaitley will today embark on a five-day visit to China, where he will attend the first annual
meeting of the board of governors of the 100-billion US dollar Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
Mr.Jaitley will also hold a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Lou Jiwei on June 27.
He will also participate in the 8th India-China Financial Dialogue.

Health Minister JP Nadda on Wednesday launched several campaigns to create awareness among people
regarding non-communicable diseases (NCDs) or 'lifestyle diseases'.
The minister launched a media campaign and an 'M-Diabetes' initiative, where information on diabetes will be
provided through a missed call.
India's first sunken museum to come up in Delhi:
India's first sunken museum is set to come up at Humayuns Tomb in Delhi. With a built-up area of 9,000 square
metres, the underground site museum, whose roof was laid down recently, will open to the public in early 2018.
The construction work for the same began in April 2015 and 30% work has been completed so far, officials said.

Government withdraws Drugs and Cosmetics Bill, 2013:
The Cabinet decided to withdraw the Drugs and Cosmetics Bill, 2013 that sought to amend the 1940 law.
The bill had proposed to regulate the quality of products like medicines, medical devices, gene therapeutic products, and
clinical trials, among others.
The government said it will now review the existing law in pursuance of the 'Make In India' programme.

The Union Cabinet has given its approval for a special package for employment generation and promotion of
exports in Textile and Apparel sector.
Union Cabinet approves pact for avoidance of double taxation with Belgium:
The Union Cabinet has given its approval to the signing of a Protocol amending the Agreement between India and
Belgium for avoidance of double taxation.
Union Cabinet approves MoU between India and Germany:
The Union Cabinet has approved signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Steinbeis GmbH Co. KG,
Germany for technology transfer and resourcing in manufacturing, including sub-sectors of Capital Goods.
It will act as a Technology Resource Partner for implementing identified projects in manufacturing.
Aadhaar to be linked with caste certificates:
Centre has asked all the states to link Aadhaar card of school students to their caste and domicile certificate.
The states have further been directed to issue such certificates to children studying in Class-5 and Class-8 within 60 days.
The government has reportedly taken the decision following complaints stating that SC-ST students were facing delays in
getting their scholarship.
India to sign Memorandum of Obligation to join SCO:
India will sign a memorandum of obligation in Tashkent to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
India is likely to be given the status of full member of the SCO during the extended meeting of member states and
observer countries of the organisation.
India will also sign about 30 other documents during the period of one year to become a permanent member of the SCO.
Maharashtra districts get own disaster plans:
The Maharashtra government has reportedly prepared disaster management plans for all 36 districts in the
state amid predictions of 'above normal' monsoon by the MeT department.
The plans deal with emergency measures to be taken during heavy rains, flash floods, landslides and lightning strikes, an
official said. The plans also include population and other macro details of the districts.
Mobile van to teach disabled kids in Chandigarh:
Chandigarh Administrator Kaptan Singh Solanki flagged off a mobile van, named Kalam Express, to provide
home-based education to disabled children.
The van, to work six days a week, will have an educator, a physiotherapist, an LCD screen, a projector, books, and toys.
Chhattisgarh to ban 10-12 year old trucks, buses:
In a bid to curb air pollution, the Chhattisgarh government has decided to ban trucks and buses older than 10
and 12 years, respectively.
Their owners will be given one year to buy new commercial vehicles, the state's Environment Conservation Board said.
Further, permits will not be sanctioned to vehicles coming from other states that are older than eight years.
Haryana to provide 100% rebate in property tax:
The Haryana government on Thursday decided to provide 100% rebate in property tax for residential,
commercial, and institutional properties, said an official release.
The rebate would be given for a year from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017.
The government had earlier waived electricity dues for consumers whose properties were damaged or looted during the
Jat quota agitation.
Government launches project for CNG-run two-wheelers:
Environment Minister PrakashJavadekar and MoS for Petroleum and Natural Gas (Independent Charge)
DharmendraPradhan launched a pilot project in Delhi to run 50 two-wheelers on CNG.
The performance of these two-wheelers will be closely monitored for efficiency and emissions during the pilot phase,
Pradhan said.
The CNG-fuelled two-wheelers are expected to emit 75% lesser hydrocarbons.

Telangana will join the Uday programme that the Central Government introduced to bailout electricity distribution
companies from the losses.

DeenDayalUpadhyaya Scheme and also to give more coal for power projects in Telangana.

Union Government approved setting up of District Level Advisory and Monitoring Committees:
Union Ministry of Urban Development approved the setting up of District Level Advisory and Monitoring
Committees to promote people centric planning and execution of new urban development schemes.
These committees will comprise of elected representatives of the country, thus giving Members of Parliament (MP) and
Members of Legislative Assembly (MLA) a say in the implementation of the urban development schemes.
Arunachal to opt for e-governance, go paperless:
The Arunachal Pradesh government has decided to go paperless from August 15, in its endeavour to implement
e-governance in the state.
e-Office suites will be made functional in the states civil secretariat to stop manual movement of files.
Further, all government files will be processed electronically to ensure speedy decision-making and bring about
transparency in the government processes.

ADB approved $500 million loan to build Indias longest river bridge across Ganga near Patna:
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved 500 million US dollars loan to build a road bridge across the river
Ganga near Patna in Bihar.
Once completed, the 9.8 kilometer long bridge will be Indias longest river bridge.

Nepal banned its citizens from working in strife-torn Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Libya.
The decision was made at a cabinet meet after 13 Nepali security guards were killed in a Taliban suicide bombing in
Kabul.

Finance Ministry in a release said these entities would include Points of Presence and the Central Record keeping Agency
across the country.
This fortnight-long campaign is aimed at awareness creation, service orientation and information dissemination along
with subscribers registration.

In Assam, Petroleum ministry will conduct a road show today in Guwahati ahead of upcoming auction of small oil
field.
Union Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said it will be held in Guwahati for the first time.
The estimated values of the oil fields are Rs. 30,000 crore.
New Sonepat-Jind railway line to be dedicated to nation:
Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu will dedicate to the nation an 81-km long new railway line between
Sonepat and Jind and will flag off a passenger train between these two stations from Chandigarh.
Other projects to be launched from Chandigarh included new Foot-over-Bridge at Platform No. 4 and 5 at Railway
Station, Sonepat and inauguration of a mechanized laundry in Chandigarh.
President to present National Awards on drug prevention:
President Pranab Mukherjee will present the National Awards for Outstanding Services in the field of Prevention
of Alcoholism and Substance Drugs Abuse in New Delhi.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment had instituted this Awards in 2013.

Jammu and Kashmir CM and Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti won the Anantnag by-poll,

Three-day Summer Festival inaugurated in Delhi:

The 28th edition of the festival, previously known as the Delhi Mango Festival, also features other summer fruits,

Government extends import ban on Chinese milk products:
The government extended the ban on the import of milk and milk products from China for another year till June
2017.
The ban, which was first imposed in 2008, has been extended every year since.
Mizoram to launch two-wheeler taxi service:
Mizoram will become the first hill state to launch a two-wheeler taxi service, which will start operating from July.
Around 200 to 250 motorcycles will operate on the roads in the state capital Aizawl with fares starting at Rs.10.
The taxi service is aimed at controlling traffic in the citys narrow roads while boosting employment amongst the youth.
Maharashtra to fund Pune College's next satellite:
Maharashtra Education Minister VinodTawde said the state government will provide Rs.50 lakh for the next
satellite project of College of Engineering, Pune, after the institute's successful launch of 'Swayam'.
It was one of the 20 satellites launched by ISRO on June 22.
Swayam, a picosatellite, aims to provide point-to-point messaging services to the HAM (amateur radio) community.
Nagaland launches women helpline '181':
Nagaland Governor PB Acharya launched the women helpline number '181' in Dimapur and inaugurated 'Sakhi -
One Stop Centre', an institute that supports women affected by violence.
The helpline and centre are aimed to provide integrated assistance, medical, legal and psychological counselling to
women affected by violence.
Notably, the '181' helpline was first started in Delhi in 2012.
Greater Noida to develop Paris-like Eco Park:
The 2,500-acre ecological park to be developed in Greater Noida will be made using the Paris models of forest
reserves, the authorities said.
"We'll develop walkways, watch towers and other facilities for visitors on the lines of forest reserves in Paris.
We'll rejuvenate water bodies and conduct tree plantations to increase the existing green cover," an official said.
Union Defence Ministry gives nod for purchase of 145 Ultra Light Howitzers guns from the US:
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Union Defence Minister ManoharParrikar has given its
approval to for the purchase of 145 Ultra-Light Howitzers (ULH) guns from the US.
The procurement of ULH will be through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) route from the US and it will cost around 750
million dollars. As part of this deal, 25 ULH guns will come to India directly from US in a fly away condition.
ADB approves $500 million loan for bridge over Ganga River in Bihar:
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a 500 million dollars loan to build a bridge across the Ganga
River in Bihar.
The loan funds will be used to build 9.8 km road bridge in Bihar on the Ganga River.
On completion of the project it will be the Indias longest river bridge.
Jan Dhan deposits up 118 per cent over 21 months
The average deposit per account under the PradhanMantri Jan DhanYojana (PMJDY) - a financial inclusion
programme launched by Prime Minister NarendraModi in August 2014 - increased 118 per cent from Rs 795 in
September 2014 to Rs 1,735 in May 2016, according to IndiaSpend analysis of government data.

Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Sunday called for including a chapter on the 1975 Emergency in
textbooks, saying the "atrocities" committed during the period needed to be told.
"Around 75% of the population is unaware why and how emergency was imposed in the country," he claimed. Naqvi said
he would take up the matter with the concerned ministry.
India to continue NSG membership talks: MEA
Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson VikasSwarup on Sunday said India would continue talks to further its
attempts to become a member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
"We will redouble our efforts...to achieve the result," he said. The current hurdle was not a diplomatic failure, and nobody
can equate India and Pakistan in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty issue, Swarup added.
India owns USD 121.6 bn worth US govt securities
Touching a new high, Indias holding of American government securities jumped to USD 121.6 billion in April
amid uncertain global economic cues.
This also marks a steep rise from the level seen in April 2015 when the country held American government securities to

Indo-Nepal boundary pillars to be GPS-enabled

The India-Nepal Boundary Working Group has decided that over 8,000 pillars along the 1,700-km-long Indo-
Nepal border will be equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS), allowing authorities to effectively manage
the porous border.
Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Nepal-India Boundary Global Navigation Satellite System (NIB GNSS) would
be used for the GPS-enabled boundary pillars.
Rajnath to chair Eastern Zonal Council meeting in Ranchi
The Eastern Zonal Council meeting is likely to be held in Ranchi, the state capital of Jharkhand, on Monday. The
meet is expected to be attended by chief ministers of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha.

Rs.13k cr black money found in offshore accounts
I-T authorities have reportedly found undeclared income of around Rs.13,000 crores from two sets of
information they had received.

Govt eliminates 1.6 cr bogus ration cards
The government has eliminated 1.6 crore duplicate and bogus ration cards that will help the exchequer save
Rs.10,000 crore in subsidy annually, Finance Secretary Ashok Lavasa said.
Further, the government has saved about 10% of the expenditure in the employment scheme MNREGA in the 2015-16
fiscal after elimination of fake job cards, he added.
Modi government launches RFID-based access control system at Cochin Port
Moving towards modernisation of sea ports, Modi government has inaugurated an RFID-based access control
system at the Cochin Port.
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification System) is an access control system on digital platform for regulating movement of
vehicles, cargo and people into the sensitive wharf area.
The system dispenses away with manual checkings and reduces the waiting time at the wharf gates, says the Ministry of
Shipping release. Presently, access control of vehicles and persons is done through a manual gate pass system.
Delhi hospitals to provide subsidised treatment to North East people
Thirty-two Delhi hospitals have agreed to provide subsidised treatment to the people of the northeastern region
living in the national capital under a reach-out programme.
More than 11 lakh people from the northeast are either working in private sectors or studying in Delhi and the National
Capital Region and most of them do not have any medical insurance or facilities, nor they can avail the central
government health scheme (CGHS) like government servants.
Assams Majuli becomes Indias 1st island district
Assam's Majuli, a 400-square-kilometre island in the Brahmaputra river, became Indias first island district.
This came after Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal won the recently held Assembly elections from Majuli, a constituency
reserved for scheduled tribes.
The decision was taken in the first cabinet meeting of the new BJP-led government, that had assumed office on May 24.
AP govt signs deal for Rs.10k crfertiliser plant
The Andhra Pradesh government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a three-nation
consortium for the construction of a Rs.10,183 crore gas-based fertiliser plant near Krishnapatnam.
The project, approved by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during his ongoing visit to China, has been proposed to
commence by 2017 and is expected to generate nearly 5,000 jobs.
Andhra to set up $6.4 bn building materials park
The Andhra Pradesh government signed anMoU with Chinese firms to establish a Building Materials Industrial
Park and a Modern Building Materials Logistics Park with an expected investment of $6.4 billion.
The project is expected to employ around 45,000 people. The park will manufacture materials like wood, cement,
concrete, bricks, tiles, ceramics, and composite materials, among others.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday launched KalingaSikshaSathiYojana, a scheme to provide
education loan at 1% interest to students pursuing higher studies.
Patnaik said, The scheme will reduce the loan burden of lakhs of parents. The state government will meet the fund
requirement of about Rs.500 crore for the scheme from its own resources, he added.
50L BPL families in Bihar to get LPG connections
Union Minister DharmendraPradhan launched the PradhanMantriUjjwalaYojana to give free LPG connections to
50 lakh Below Poverty Line families in Bihar over three years.
He added that 10 lakh Above Poverty Line families will also get LPG connections. Bihar will be the biggest beneficiary of
the scheme, which will provide 5 crore connections, he said.

management guideline customised to the needs of an individual farmer, an official statement said.
Centre to invest Rs 1,000 cr for 750-bedded AIIMS in Assam
The Centre will invest around Rs 1,000 crore to set up a 750-bedded All India Institute of Medical Sciences in
Assam, the land for which was handed over by the state government.
The AIIMS, to be set up in Kamrup district, will house 18 super-speciality departments.
Puducherrygovt to build toilets in 55,000 homes
The Puducherry government has drawn up aRs.120 crore plan to build toilets for 55,000 households under the
SwachhBharathAbhiyan, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said.
He added that the scheme will be jointly implemented by several authorities including municipalities, the District Rural
Development Agency, and cooperative building centres by October 2.

Keeping in mind the future power requirements of the Mumbai region, the Maharashtra government plans to sign a
MoU with Tata Power for sourcing 1,000 MW from the upcoming Dherand Thermal Project, said Maharashtras
Power Minister ChandrashekharBawankule.
Addressing the media at the State Secretariat, he said both power requirement and transmission capacity for the Mumbai
region requires further augmentation. The tie-up with Tata Power is a step in that direction.

8 new IITs' cost estimate overshoots by Rs.7,910 cr
In an official release, the Centre on Wednesday declared that the cost estimate for establishing eight new IITs has
overshot by Rs.7,910 crore due to "escalation in both time and cost".
The Cabinet approved Rs.13,990 crore for the same, as against the original estimate of Rs.6,080 crore.
The 8 IITs include Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Ropar, Mandi and Patna.

Tamil Nadu's fiscal deficit highest in India
Tamil Nadu has the highest fiscal deficit among all states in the country, according to Reserve Bank of India data.
The state's fiscal deficit of Rs.31,870 crore is higher than that of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, which occupy the second
and the third place respectively. Notably, fiscal deficit is the difference between the state's expenditure and income.

France to launch terror alert mobile app today:
In France, a new smartphone app designed to alert users to possible terror attacks will be launched by the
government.
App users will also be able to monitor alerts for up to eight different geographical zones, allowing them to check
on family members or friends.
The launch comes a day after Britain warned that stadiums and fan zones could be targeted during Euro 2016
football tournament.
UN welcomes Indo-US commitment to join Paris agreement:
UN chief Ban Ki-moon welcomed steps taken by India and the US to join the Paris Climate agreement, saying he
is encouraged by the resolve of the two countries to pursue low greenhouse gas emission development
strategies.
As of today, 177 countries have signed, and 17 have ratified the climate agreement.
India to open new consulate in Seattle:
India will soon open another consulate in Seattle to cater to the needs of large number of Indian-Americans
living in the northwestern part of the United States.
India will be opening a new consulate in Seattle and the US will open a new consulate at a mutually agreed
location in India.
The two countries also announced a series of measures to encourage people-to-people contacts.
Turkey's president lifts lawmakers' immunity:
In Turkey, President RecepTayyipErdogan has approved amendments to the constitution that paved the way
for the trials of some 138 legislators.
This includes several pro-Kurdish lawmakers who face terror-related charges.
China disapproves anti-dumping probe on steel:
The Chinese government expressed concern over the anti-dumping probe initiated by India in April against the
import of steel from China.
The Indian government is expected to conduct a fair investigation according to WTO rules, it added.
'India joins 5 nations to tackle tax evasion':
India has signed up to a scheme launched by Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain to clamp down on tax
evasion and corruption, Britain's government said.
The nations are planning to allow free access of information amongst each other. This comes after Switzerland last week

Russia unveils indigenous passenger plane:
Russia unveiled a medium-range passenger aircraft, manufactured by a subsidiary of state-controlled United
Aircraft Corporation.
The company said that the aircraft would be 15% cheaper to operate than other current generation aircraft.

India-US ink six agreements:
India and the United States (US) have signed six agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields.
These agreements were signed after wide range of bilateral talks between Prime Minster NarendraModi and US
President Barack Obama in Washington.

on Energy Security among others.
Pakistan tops in 2016 Malware Infection Index:
Pakistan has topped in the list of 19 countries figuring in the 2016 Malware Infection Index (MII) in the Asia-
Pacific region.
The index for the Asia-Pacific region was released by technology giant Microsoft in which India was placed at 8th
position.
More than 40% of computers in the 19 countries in Asia-Pacific region are infected against the global average
being around 20%.

India, the US and Japan started the MALABAR-16 naval exercise off the Western Pacific coast, close to the disputed South
China sea.
Japan was included in the exercise as a permanent member in 2015, making the erstwhile Indo-US exercise a trilateral

A United States official said that President Barack Obama has approved a broader role for American forces in

In a first, China and Nepal are now connected by an optical fibre network through the Geelong (Keyrong)-

The network has ended Nepal's sole dependence on India for connecting it with global telecom services, Xinhua

Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) released the 2016 Global Peace Index (GPI). It is 10th edition of GPI that
measured peace, its causes and its economic value during 2015 for 163 countries.
India ranked 141 among the 163 countries with 2.566 GPI score.
It showed an improvement in peace building as it held 143th rank in 2014 and 2015.
Norway becomes first country to prohibit deforestation:
Norwegian Parliament had pledged to make governments public procurement policy deforestation-free. The step was
taken after a committee of MPs recommended imposing regulations to ensure the state did not contribute to
deforestation of the rainforest.
China launches 23rd BeiDou Navigation Satellite:
The satellite launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province will support
Chinas global navigation and positioning network.
The BeiDou Navigation Satellite System is being developed as an alternative to US GPS.
China's crude oil output drops by most in 15 yrs:
China's crude oil production in May fell by 7.3% year-on-year, its biggest drop since February 2001, according
to data from the country's National Bureau of Statistics.
This comes after the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) failed to reach an agreement on oil
production cap.
India, EFTA agree to address issues to resume FTA talks:

global greenhouse gas emissions.
US: Philadelphia introduces soda tax to fight obesity
In the US city of Philadelphia has introduced a levy on carbonated sugary drinks, despite a multimillion-dollar

North America to have its first sanctuary for dolphins:
Baltimores National Aquarium announced its plan to create an Oceanside dolphin sanctuary. This will be first
of its kind sanctuary for the marine mammals in North America.
The aquarium will move its colony of eight Atlantic bottlenose dolphins to an
outdoor facility with natural seawater by 2020. Of the eight bottlenose dolphins (six female
and two male), only one has ever lived in the open ocean.
Arktika, the most powerful nuclear icebreaker launched by Russia:
Russia launched the new Project 22220 nuclear icebreaker dubbed Arktika.
Itwas launched from the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg the second largest city of
Russia.
Project 22220 is the worlds largest and most powerful vessel of its kind and it
has been built at the Baltic Shipyard of the United Shipbuilding Corporation of Russia.
First Chinese Disneyland opens in Shanghai:

China opened its first Disneyland in Shanghai to the public with a grand ceremony.
Disney CEO Bob Iger present at the event announced that the Disneyland was a product of $5.5 billion investment and
a two-decade courtship of the Communist Partys top leaders.
The theme park is expected to attract 15-50 million visitors every year.
Dow 1st foreign firm to get Saudi trade licence:
US's Dow Chemicals became the first foreign company to receive a trading license from Saudi Arabia as the
kingdom plans to diversify its economy and reduce its dependence on oil exports amid a slump in global oil
prices.
The trading license will give the company 100% ownership in the country's trading sector, as per the government's new
reform plan.

US to lift ban on transgenders in military:
According to Pentagon officials, the United States will lift the ban on openly transgender persons serving in the
military starting next month.
A study last year estimated that 15,000 transgender people served in the US military.
This comes five years after the US military ended its ban on gay and lesbian personnel serving openly.
World's tallest and longest tunnel slide opens:
The world's longest and tallest tunnel slide, ArcelorMittal Orbit, which has 12 loops was opened to the public on
Friday in London, UK.
The 584-feet long and 250-feet tall slide has been designed by British-Indian artist AnishKapoor and created by Belgian
artist Carsten Holler.
It has been transformed from UK's tallest artwork built for the London Olympics in 2012.

Russia, China approve business initiatives worth $50bn during Putin visit
"Fifty-eight various business initiatives with the total volume of investments
being $50 billion, have been selected," Putin told journalists in the Chinese capital.
Twelve of the projects are already being implemented, he added.

India joins Missile Technology Control Regime
India on Monday formally became the 35th member of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) that aims
at the non-proliferation of missiles, rocket systems, and unmanned air vehicles, among others.
The membership will enable India to buy high-end missile technologies and reportedly enhance its joint ventures with
Russia. This marks Indias first entry into a multilateral export control regime.
Brexit won't affect border deal with UK: France
The French government has said that their border agreement with the United Kingdom, which allows UK to
check passports in France and vice-versa, will not be affected by UK leaving the European Union.
The Le Touquet accord was signed in 2003 and plays a role in numerous refugees being kept in camps in Calais on
France's northern coast.
Myanmar torches drugs worth $57 million
On the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Myanmar police officials said drugs
estimated to cost around $57 million were torched on Sunday.
Over half a ton of opium, 80 kilograms of heroin, 768 kilograms of methamphetamines and ten million stimulant pills
were torched. According to the United Nations, Myanmar is the world's second largest producer of opium.

IMF clears payment of $500 million to Pakistan
The International Monetary Fund today cleared payment of $501 million for Pakistan taking the total amount
given to the country to $6.1 billion in the last few years.
In a statement, issued after the conclusion of 11th review of Pakistans economic performance under a three-year
program supported by an Extended Fund Facility (EFF) arrangement, the IMF said the decision enables the immediate
disbursement of about $501 million to Pakistan.

The UN General Assembly today elected Ethiopia, Bolivia and Sweden as non-permanent members of the

got 185 votes, while Bolivia got 183 and Sweden garnered 134 votes.
Asia's cleanest village is in Meghalaya
The cleanest village in Asia, Mawlynnong, is situated in India's north-eastern state of Meghalaya.

The United States, Canada, and Mexico will this week reportedly pledge that they will produce 50% of their

BRICS New Development Bank to issue first yuan-denominated bonds
The New Development Bank of the BRICS countries is set to issue its first yuan-denominated bonds with plans
to release more bonds in local currencies including in Indian Rupee.
The bank's first five-year yuan-denominated bonds, also referred as green bonds, will be issued after receiving
a rating from international ratings agencies as well as getting authorities' approval.
ICICI Bank cuts lending rate by 0.05%:
Country's largest private sector lender ICICI Bank has cut its marginal cost of funds-based lending rate (MCLR)
by 0.05 per cent, to take it at par with the rates offered by SBI and HDFC Bank.

The government will set up 650 branches of the postal bank across the country by September 2017, Telecom Minister

Axis Bank has launched Indias first internationally-listed certified green bond to finance climate change
solutions around the world at London Stock Exchange (LSE).
The green bonds of Axis Bank were certified by the Climate Bonds Standards Board.

This is the first green bond of Axis Bank issued within its 5 billion dollars Medium Term Note (MTN) programme,
which has also has been listed entirely on LSE.
SBI, CaixaBank ink pact to fund Indo-Spanish JVs, local biz
SBI and Spain's CaixaBank have inked pact to provide loans to Indo-Spanish joint ventures and local

Citigroup sued AT&T, saying the company's use of "thanks" and "AT&T thanks" in a new customer loyalty
program infringed its trademark rights to the phrase "thankyou."
Citigroup has been using the "ThankYou" trademark in its customer-loyalty program since 2004 and said that the
"AT&T thanks" program launched on June 2 is likely to cause confusion among customers.
Government drafting separate bankruptcy law for financial companies: JayantSinha
The government is planning to introduce a new insolvency law for banks and other financial institutions that will
ensure the quick closure of the stressed firms while safeguarding the interests of small savers, Union Minister
JayantSinha said.
The Insolvency and Bankruptcy code, passed in the Parliament in May, aims to amend laws pertaining to
reorganisation and insolvency of firms.

IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad launched a contest, with 50,000 prize money, to design the logo and come up
with the tagline for the newly announced India Post Payments Bank.
Users can submit their designs on the MyGov portal before 9 July, 2016. The designs will be selected based on rankings

FPI limit in YES Bank hiked to 74%:
The Reserve Bank of India has notified the increase in the limits of foreign portfolio investors in YES Bank
from 60% to 74% under the portfolio investment scheme.
The increase follows the approval granted by the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA) / Foreign Investment
Promotion Board (FIPB on May 25 besides deregulation of FDI policy allowing fungibility across FDI / FPI limits.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued the guidelines on the Scheme for Sustainable Structuring of Stressed
Assets.

BRICS bank to issue maiden local currency bond:
The official announced that the bank will also issue bonds in other member countries in their local currencies to

Sovereign gold bonds' trading on exchange begins:
The sovereign gold bonds started trading on the stock exchanges (BSE and NSE) for the first time.
The government had issued gold bonds in three tranches starting November last year for about five tonnes worth of
gold.
The securities ended the day's trade at 3,180 per gram on the BSE, 18% higher than the issue price.

A small Florida bank will issue the first U.S. credit card intended for use in Cuba and make it easier for

Bank of Japan keeps interest rates unchanged:
The Bank of Japan decided to keep the interest rates on the current accounts held by financial institutions

Further, the inflation is "likely to be slightly negative or about 0% for the time being", the central bank said.
US Federal Reserve holds interest steady:
The US Federal Reserve decided to keep the key interest rates steady at 0.25-0.5%.
Further, the growth forecast for 2016 and 2017 was brought down by 0.1% to 2%.
The UK's possible exit from the European Union affected the decision as it would impact economic and financial

SBI launches Rs.200 Crore fund for fintech startups:
The State Bank of India launched a 200-crore 'IT Innovation Start-up Fund to invest in startups operating in
the financial technology space.
This fund shall consider assistance of up to 3 crore to an Indian registered company for promoting their business
innovations using IT in India for banking and related technology, said SBI Chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya.
RBI approves common rural bill payment centres:
The RBI gave in-principle approval to the common service centres (CSCs) in rural areas to collect payments for
services like electricity, water and gas.
The facility will be rolled out within around three months, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
NRIs can now join NPS online through eNPS: Finance Ministry
Government said non residentindians (NRIs) can now open National Pension Savings (NPS) accounts online if
they have Aadhaar Card or PAN card.
India has the second-largest diaspora in the world, with around 29 million people living in over 200 countries
and out of them 25 per cent live in the Gulf countries.
SEBI eases norms for overseas fund managers:
Markets regulator SEBI has eased the norms for overseas fund managers to relocate to India, under which they
need not fulfil the minimum investment requirement of 25 lakh.
The government had announced taxation incentives for overseas fund managers willing to relocate to India during the
2015-16 Budget.
SBI named in Hall Of Shame list of Banks funding Cluster Bomb Makers:
The State Bank of India (SBI) was named in the Hall of Shame list of 158 banking institutions that have
invested billions of dollars in companies making cluster bombs.

Government allows complete PPF withdrawal after 5 yrs
The government changed the norms for Public Provident Fund (PPF) deposits, allowing the subscribers of the
scheme to prematurely close their accounts and withdraw the complete amount after five years
Currently, the lock-in period for complete withdrawal from PPF accounts is 15 years.
Government keeps interest rates on small savings scheme unchanged:
Interest rates for Small Savings Schemes will remain unchanged for the next quarter beginning July,
government notified.
Presently the rate of interest for both Five Year National Savings Certificate and Public Provident Fund Scheme
is 8.1 per cent.
ICICI Bank Launches Smart City Pre-paid Card in Ahmedabad
Chief Minister Anandiben Patel unveiled a first of its kind Smart City Pre-paid Card of ICICI Bank, Indias
largest private sector bank, in association with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) which would enable
the residents of the commercial capital of Gujarat to pay for an array of facilities
including taxes, bills, entry fee to common city areas and at retail outlets by using a
single pre-paid card.
NSE to file draft papers for domestic listing by Jan 2017
Ending speculation about its listing plans, top stock exchange NSE said it has
decided to get listed in India as well as abroad and will file draft papers with
Sebi for domestic listing by January 2017.
It will further file for overseas listing by April 2017. The decisions related to listing
were taken during the last meeting of the board of directors on June 23, 2016.
Startups can open foreign currency accounts: RBI
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently allowed startups with an overseas
subsidiary to open foreign currency accounts with a bank outside India.
The accounts will help the startups to credit foreign exchange earnings from
exports and sales.

RBI added that the balance in such accounts, to the extent they represent exports, should be returned to India.
Bank of Maharashtra raises Rs 500 cr via bonds
State-owned Bank of Maharashtra said it has raised Rs 500 crore by issuing bonds that are compliant with
global capital adequacy norms.
The bonds bear the coupon rate of 9.20 per cent per annum.
SBI to raise $1.5 billion by issuing bonds
Countrys largest lender SBI today said it will raise long-term capital of up to USD 1.5 billion (over Rs 10,000
crore) by issuing bonds in US dollar or other convertible currency.
The Executive Committee of the Central Board in its meeting held on June 29, 2016, has approved to raise long term
funds up to $1,500 million in single/multiple tranches, SBI said in the filing.
United Bank remains cautious on corporate lending, aims at 30% retail loan growth this fiscal
Public sector lender United Bank of India is aiming to grow its retail credit portfolio by 30% for this fiscal as it
remains cautions on lending to corporate sector. The bank is eyeing a 10-12% business growth in this financial
year.
Total business of the bank stood at Rs. 187813 crore as on March 31, 2016, registering a modest growth of 5.58%. P
Srinivas, managing director and CEO, said the lender was aiming at 10-12% business growth this fiscal.
Gross NPAs rise to 7.6% in 2015-16: RBI
The gross non-performing assets (NPAs) ratio of public-sector banks rose to 7.6% from 5.1% between
September 2015 and March 2016, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in its bi-annual Financial Stability
Report.
The report, estimates that gross NPAs may increase further to 9.3% by March 2017 under a "severe stress scenario".
SBI to Raise Over Rs 10000 Crore
SBI will raise long-term capital of up to $1.5 billion or over Rs 10,000 crore by issuing bonds in US dollar or
other convertible currency.
The Executive Committee of the Central Board in its meeting has approved to raise long term funds up to $1,500
million.
The fund raising will take place through a public offer & or private placement during 2016-17.
GIC Re profit rises 6 per cent in 2015-16
General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re) reported 6 per cent increase in net profit at 2,848 crore for
the financial year ended March 31, 2016, against 2,694 crore in the previous year.
The national re-insurer, a wholly-owned company of the government, wrote gross global premium of 18,436 crore, up
21.42 per cent over the previous year (15,184 crore).

India's growth to remain 'strong';to hover around 7.5%: OECD
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, OECD, has said that India is projected to see a
growth of around 7.5 per cent in the current fiscal even as the world economic growth is stuck in a low-growth
trap.

OECD further said improving productivity is essential for India's GDP per capita to catch up with higher-
income countries.
Salesforce buys Demandware for $2.8 billion:
American cloud computing company Salesforce on Wednesday announced the acquisition of the cloud-based e-
commerce services provider Demandware for around $2.8 billion.
With this, Salesforce will enter into the e-commerce market with a new business division called 'Commerce Cloud'.
Demandware, which raised $88 million in its initial public offering in 2012, is currently valued at $1.87 billion.

The formulation is similar to Belgium pharmaceutical major UCB's injection in the same strength, it added.
ATM-based validation of tax returns activated by Income Tax Department:
Under the initiative, the electronic verification code needed to validate returns on the e-filing portal of the I-T

Further, Sumitomo will launch an open offer to public shareholders for an additional 30% stake in the firm amounting
to 415.80 crore, it added.
JV of L&T wins contract to develop Qatar stadium:
A joint venture (JV) between infrastructure firm L&T and a Qatar-based company has been chosen to build the
Al Rayyan stadium in Qatar, for a deal worth $135 million (900 crore).

Government procures 1.11 lakh tonne of pulses to cool retail prices:

Amazon to increase investment India to $5 billion:
Amazon will invest an additional $3 billion in its India operations to take its investment in the country to

The World Bank has lowered its forecast for the global growth in 2016 to 2.4%, saying that the world
economy is facing stronger headwinds.
In its Global Economic Prospects Report released, the Washington-based institution expected the world economy to
grow 2.4% in 2016, 0.5% point lower than the banks forecast in January.
Datsun launches hatchback redi-GO with prices starting at Rs. 2.49 lakh:
Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan Motor Co has launched a
hatchback redi-GO under its Datsun brand, attempting to gain a foothold in
the extremely competitive market.
The redi-GO is launched with prices starting at Rs. 2.49 lakh (ex-showroom,
Mumbai) for the entry-level model, and the high-end priced at Rs. 3.49 lakh.
India ranked 141 on Global Peace Index:
India has been ranked 141 on the 2016 Global Peace Index, falling behind
countries like Burundi, and Serbia on the 163-country list.
India was ranked 143 on last year's list.
Prepared by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), the list names Syria as the
least peaceful country. Meanwhile, Iceland was named the world's most peaceful
country.
Google, Tata Trusts launch `Internet Sathi in West Bengal to empower rural women:

Search giant Google India and Tata Trusts jointly launched Internet Saathi program google in West Bengal to
focus on training women and larger communities in the state to learn and explore various uses and benefits

Granules India arm inks pact with US PharmaWindlas:
Granules Pharmaceuticals Inc. (GPI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Granules India Ltd, has acquired exclusive

According to IMS Health data, the annual US sales for the above four products are approximately $4.4 billion.
Crude oil futures surge to Rs. 3,432 per barrel:
Crude oil surged 1.06% to Rs. 3,432 per barrel at the futures market as speculators engaged in creating
speculative positions, taking positive cues from Asian markets.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for delivery in June was trading higher by Rs. 36 or 1.06% to Rs. 3,432
per barrel in a business turnover of 2,608 lots.

A US renewable energy company, 8minutenergy Renewables LLC, will set up 4 GW of solar power capacity in
India, according to a statement from the White House.
Paytm to use Infosys Finacle for payments bank:
To meet its ambitious target of achieving 50 crore users for its yet-to-be approved payments bank, Paytm has
brought in Infosys to deploy its Finacle Core Banking Solution.
Paytm, which is a mobile commerce platform, will use Finacle platform for its deposit products and payments
platform, enabling it to rapidly roll out innovative offerings.
TI Cycles opens 105-cr unit in Punjab:
TI Cycles of India, part of the Murugappa Group company Tube Investments of India, has launched its new
bicycle production unit in Punjab.
The 105-crore project has come up at Rajpura to address the demand in the North and East Indian markets.
The factory will have a capacity to produce 2.50 lakh bicycles a month.
SBI ties up with Jain Farm to extend loans to farmers associated with co:
State Bank of India has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Jain Farm Fresh Foods Ltd (a
subsidiary of Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd) to help farmers associated with the latter to avail of finance
against receivables due from the company.
180% rise in tourist arrivals on e-visa in May
The Tourism Ministry has said that India witnessed 180% rise in tourist arrivals on e-visa in May this year, as
compared to the same month in 2015.
Highest arrivals were from the USA, followed by the UK and China.
Textile exports fall $7.5B short of FY16 target
India's textile exports for the 2015-16 fiscal stood at $40 billion, falling short of the $47.5 billion target, Joint Secretary
in the Textile Ministry SunainaTomar said.
Meanwhile, the new textile policy which aims to achieve $300 billion exports and create 3.5 crore additional jobs by
2024-25 may be unveiled soon, Textiles Minister SantoshGangwar said.
TVS invests $11 million in three startups
TVS Automobile Solutions invested a total of approximately $11 million in three startups, Jazzmyride,
Autosense, and Redsun Telematics.
Jazzmyride deals with auto parts and accessories, Autosense provides technology and analytics-based customer
management services, while Redsun Technologies is an Internet of Things start-up that develops business solutions
like connected cars.
Apple creates new company to sell solar energy
Technology giant Apple has formed a new subsidiary, called Apple Energy LLC, in order to sell the surplus solar
power generated by its campuses in Cupertino and Nevada.
The new company filed a request with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, seeking authority to sell power on
wholesale markets across the US starting from August 5, 2016.
Ratan Tata invests in e-ticketing site Kyazoonga
Ratan Tata, Chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, has invested an undisclosed amount in e-ticketing portal
Kyazoonga.
Founded in 2007 by Neetu Bhatia, Akash Bhatia and ArpitaMajumder, Kyazoonga is an entertainment and sports
ticketing company, which has sold tickets for events like ICC Cricket World Cup and FIFA World Cup.

FCI inks pact with Adani Group

Bob Bechek, Chief Executive of consulting firm Bain & Company, emerged as the highest-rated CEO in a survey
conducted by jobs portal Glassdoor.

Notably, India has a target of installing 60 GW of wind and 100 GW of solar power capacity by 2022.
Bitcoin price surges to two-year high:
The price of digital currency Bitcoin surged 21% over the weekend to a two-year high of $720.77, it's highest
level since February 2014.
Nearly 85% of the transactions were accounted for by Chinese investors, who, according to analysts, are investing in
Bitcoin after IMF's report suggested a systemic risk in the country due to massive corporate debt.

US-based cosmetics maker Revlon has agreed to buy perfume maker Elizabeth Arden in a deal valued at $870
million.
The combined entity will reportedly have total annual sales of around $3 billion.

Tata Group announced a partnership with taxi-hailing service Uber to offer vehicle purchase and ownership
solutions to drivers on the Uber platform.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes,CBDT will soon launch an E-Nivaran portal for speedy redresal of taxpayers'

After the conclusion of two day Annual Conference of Tax Administrators in New Delhi, the CBDT Chairman Atulesh
Jindal said, the portal will be launched for Delhi on a pilot basis within two-three weeks.
Microsoft & AICTE signed agreement to build app for HRD ministry's SWAYAM platform:
Microsoft was selected as the technical partner to build a mobile Application (app) for Union Human
Resources Ministry's SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) platform.
Microsoft signed a deal of 38 crore rupees with All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to build and run the
app for three years. Later, it will be taken over by AICTE.
India sees highest-ever tea production in FY16:
India recorded its highest-ever tea production of 1,233 million kg in 2015-16 fiscal.
The surge in exports is attributed to the increased demand from Russia, Iran, Germany, Pakistan, Bangladesh,
UAE and Poland.

According to a report by software security group Kaspersky, India ranks fourth in the list of hacked servers
available for sale on xDedic, an underground marketplace for compromised servers.
The report said access to 3,488 hacked Indian servers was being sold on xDedic.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said that luxury train Maharaja Express will be introduced in south Indian
states from the monsoon season next year.

The government today said India is the most open economy in the world for FDI, while announcing several

Government to set up ETF to meet disinvestment target:
The government has said it will set up a new exchange traded fund (ETF) to sell its shares in public sector
undertakings (PSUs) and other private companies, as part of its Rs.56,500crore disinvestment target for the
2016-17 fiscal.

Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Boeing celebrated the
foundation laying of a new facility in Hyderabad for its joint venture named
Tata Boeing Aerospace (TBAL).
The joint venture has been established to co-produce Boeing AH-64 Apache
helicopter fuselages and other aero structures, as well as to pursue integrated
systems in aerospace.

According to analytics firm Tracxn's report of 50 largest VC fundings of 2016 so far, four out of the top five
investments have been made into Chinese companies.

companies in the list. Uber is the only non-Chinese company to feature in the top five.
JSW gets green nod for 35k cr Jharkhand plant:
JSW Steel has obtained environmental clearance for establishing an integrated steel unit and captive power
plant in Jharkhands Ranchi district, the Environment Ministry said.
The project, with an estimated cost of 35,000 crore, could generate around 30,000 jobs. In compliance with

State-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) today said that it has commissioned two units of 14 MW each at
Salma Hydro Electric Project in Afghanistan.
The Salma Dam or the Afghan-India Friendship Dam was inaugurated by the Prime Minister NarendraModi in presence
of the Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani, BHEL said in a statement.

Coca Cola to set up plant in Uttarakhand
An Uttarakhand government official said that Coca-Cola will set up a bottling plant in Sitarganj, on 70 acres of
land provided by the government. The plant will be set up at an investment of 400-500 crore, the official
added.
In 2014, Coca-Cola scrapped their plans to establish a unit in the state's Chharbavillage on environmental grounds.
GAAR not to apply on income before April 1, 2017
The Income Tax Department has said the proposed general anti-avoidance rule (GAAR) will not be imposed on
income from investments before April 1, 2017.
GAAR, which will be effective from April next year, contains provisions to tax overseas deals involving local assets and
is aimed at reducing tax avoidance.
IPL brand valuation rises to $4.16 billion: D&P
According to global valuation corporation Duff and Phelps, the brand value of IPL has reportedly soared by
19% to $4.16 billion after its ninth edition, as against $3.5 billion in 2015.
Mumbai Indians acquired the top spot with a valuation of $78 million, an 8% increase over last year. The boost notably
has been attributed to a controversy-free season.
Coastal shipping of goods to save 40k cr per year:
By promoting coastal shipping of six commodities including coal and steel, annual potential savings of around
40,000 crore can be made, according to government estimates.
Coastal shipping of thermal coal alone could amount to about half of the estimated savings, an official said. The
government expects to increase its share in waterways transportation from 7% to 10% by 2020.
IFC, Wadhawan Global Capital to invest Rs 60 crore in Aadhar Housing Finance
The World Bank's private sector funding arm International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Wadhawan Global
Capital Pvt Ltd are going to raise their investments in Aadhar Housing Finance by putting inRs 60 crore between

BSNL to expand its network in Chhattisgarh
State-run telecom operator BSNL will expand its network in Chhattisgarh by installing 2,000 new mobile
towers in the next two years.
Addressing media persons in Raipur, Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that in the next one
year 220 Public WiFi hotspots will be installed in Chhattisgarh by BSNL Corporate.

FMCG major ITC will invest Rs 4,000 crore over the next 2-3 years to set up 8-9 factories across the country for
manufacturing of food products.

Ola to invest Rs 350 crore in Haryana over 5 years

Taxi hailing app Ola has signed an agreement with Haryana government to create over 10,000 entrepreneurs
in the state with an investment of Rs 350 crore over the period of five years, the company said.
Ola will work with the Haryana government to introduce innovative and customised mobility solutions like Ola Auto,
Ola Bike, Ola Share and Ola Shuttle across the state.

Power sector sees $1.6 bn deals in Jan-May: EY
The Indian power sector saw 17 merger and acquisition deals worth $1.6 billion in the first five months of
2016, said a report by consultancy firm Ernst and Young (EY).
In comparison, 15 deals worth $601 million were made during the corresponding period last year. Further, renewable
energy accounted for 65% of the total deal volumes recorded this year.
Sistema to buy Russia's stake in Indian subsidiary
Oil-to-telecom conglomerate Sistema on Monday said it will acquire the Russian government's 17.14% share in
SistemaShyam Tele-Services (SSTL).
The Russian Federation had bought the stake in 2011 and entered an option agreement to sell them back to Sistema
after five years for an estimated worth of $777 million.
Amazon launches two data centres in India
Amazon Web Services (AWS), the worlds biggest provider of cloud computing services, launched data centres
in India, taking on rivals Microsoft, IBM and NTT in a country that is witnessing rapid adoption of cloud

In the latest World Bank ranking of the global logistics performance, India is now ranked 35th as against the

Stat-run coal miners and power developers signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) with

Sri Lanka seam bowler NuwanKulasekara announced his retirement from
Tests with immediate effect on 1 June 2015. He continues his career in
limited over cricket.
The 33-year old seamer played 21 Test matches for Sri Lanka and picked up 48
wickets since his debut in April 2005.He played 173 ODIs and was ranked as the
No. 1 bowler in March 2009.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) unveils first ever team of refugees:
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has unveiled its first ever team of refugees which will have 10
members and 12 officials and will compete at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games under the Olympic flag.
The team includes five athletes from South Sudan, two from Syria, two from Democratic Republic of Congo and one
from Ethiopia. The athletes, six men and four women, will compete in the sports of swimming, judo and athletics.

Paes only tennis player to appear in 7 Olympics
India's Leander Paes will become the only tennis player in the world and the first Indian to make a seventh
appearance at the Olympics.
Paes won the bronze medal for India in singles tennis at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
Interestingly, Leander's father Vece was a midfielder in the bronze medal-winning Indian field hockey team at the 1972
Munich Olympics.
KL Rahul 1st Indian to make century on ODI debut
Opening batsman KL Rahul became the first Indian to score a century on his ODI debut, after registering
100*(115) against Zimbabwe in the first ODI of the series.
He is the 11th batsman in ODI history to have achieved the feat. The previous best by an Indian on ODI debut was

India to play for the 1st time in U-17 Futsal WC:
India has been given a wildcard by the Association Mundial de Futsal (AMF) to participate in the upcoming U-

Nine-year-old sets swimming record in US:
James Savage, a nine-year-old boy from California, has become the youngest to swim from San Francisco to
Alcatraz Island and back.
The boy covered the three-mile stretch in a little over two hours.

Sri Lankan pacer ShamindaEranga suspended by ICC for illegal action:
International Cricket Council (ICC) suspended Sri Lankas fast bowler ShamindaEranga from bowling. He was
suspended after an assessment of his bowling action.
The assessment revealed that all deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the regulations.

Cleveland Cavaliers today defeated defending champions Golden State Warriors 93-89 in the seventh game of

Worlds oldest footballer sets new goal record:
Japanese footballer Kazuyoshi Miura has broken his own record to become the oldest goalscorer in Japans
football league.
Miura, aged 49 years, is currently the worlds oldest active football player, and is playing in his 31st season as a
professional.
Before retiring internationally, Miura scored 55 goals in 89 appearances for Japan.
AIFF to launch 'Mission 11 Million' for football:
The All India Football Federation is set to launch a football promotion programme in October targeting 11
million children across India.
The programme, titled Mission 11 Million, will reportedly be launched in 30 cities, besides targeting the
Indian diaspora in Gulf countries.
Notably, India will be hosting its first international football competition, the U-17 FIFA World Cup, next year.

Boxers Manoj, Vikas qualify for Rio Olympics:
Boxers Manoj Kumar and VikasKrishan have qualified for the Rio Olympics, after beating

Before them, Shiva Thapa was the only Indian boxer with an Olympic berth.

Dutee clocked 11.30 seconds beating the Rio Olympics qualification mark of 11.32 secs.
VikasKrishan, Manoj Kumar settle for bronze in AIBA qualifiers:
Indian boxers VikasKrishan and Manoj Kumar have settled for bronze medals in the International Boxing
Association's (AIBA) World Qualifying Tournament.

By reaching the semi-finals, both VikasKrishan and Manoj Kumar, have already booked their Olympic berths.
So far, three Indian boxers have qualified for the Olympic Games. Apart from Vikas and Manoj, Shiva Thapa (56kg) has
also made the cut, booking his berth in the Asian Qualifiers in March.

Harmanpreet 1st Indian woman in int'l T20 league:
Indian womens team all-rounder and vice-captainHarmanpreetKaur has become the first Indian female
cricketer to sign for an overseas T20 league, after the BCCI allowed their participation in international leagues
earlier this month.
Kaur has signed up for the current Womens Big Bash League champions, Sydney Thunder, for the second season

India jumps to number 5 in world hockey rankings:
Following their silver medal win in the Champions Trophy in London this month, the Indian mens hockey team
has risen two places to number five in the International Hockey Federation (FIH) rankings.
This is only the second time India has managed to break through in the top five since the ranking system was started in
2003.

BrahMos integrated with IAF's fighter jet:

cannot be accessed during storms, earthquakes or other disasters.

In a parachute aided landing, the dummy spacecraft landed successfully in the BadainJaran Desert in Northwest China.

Defence Ministry nod to buy 145 ultra-light Howitzers from US
In an advanced approval to induct new artillery guns, the defence ministry on Saturday paved way for
purchase of 145 Ultra-Light Howitzers, worth about $750 million (5,000 crores), from the US, the first
acquisition of such weapon systems by the army in three decades since the Bofors scandal.
CSIR launches ayurvedic anti-diabetic drug:
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on Monday launched BGR-34, an ayurvedic drug
designed to cure Type 2 Diabetes mellitus.
The drug will be available for 5 per tablet.
Tejas to be put in combat roles by 2017: Reports
As per reports, the Indian Air Force will put the indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft Tejas into

The IAF is aiming to have a total of six aircraft this financial year and about eight in the next.
The first batch of Tejas, comprising of two aircraft, will be inducted into the IAF on July 1.
Google brings Earth into better focus
Googles free online mapping service is bringing the world into better focus with an updated version of Earth
that takes advantage of photos from a US Landsat 8 satellite.
The Internet giant introduced a cloud-free mosaic of this planet three years ago at Google Earth, and on June 27
began rolling out a new version that uses new techniques to process sharper images gathered by the satellite sent into
orbit in 2013, as part of a collaboration between NASA and the US Geological Survey.

Most powerful rocket by NASA set for journey to Mars
Inching closer to send worlds most powerful rocket to Mars, US space agency NASA successfully fire-tested a
booster for the Space Launch System (SLS) at Orbital ATKs test facilities in Promontory, Utah.
This was the last full-scale test for the booster before SLS is ready in 2018 for the first uncrewed test flight with NASAs
Orion spacecraft, marking a key milestone on the agencys Journey to Red Planet.
India Test-Fires Surface-to-Air Missile
India has successfully test-fires new surface-to-air missile Barak-8 from defence base off Odisha coast.The
missile was developed jointly with Israel.
The missile is designed to defend any type of airborne threat including aircraft & helicopters,
Porsche created world's 1st hybrid car
Ferdinand Porsche, founder of Porsche AG, unveiled the worlds first functional hybrid car in 1900, the
'Lohner-Porsche Semper Vivus'.
The vehicle could travel almost 200 km on full charge, reaching a top speed of 35 kmph. Remarkably, it was also the
first car with an all-wheel drive and four-wheel brakes.
NASA successfully tests Mars-bound booster

NASA successfully tested the booster designed for its Mars-bound rocket 'Space
Launch System', which is the most powerful rocket in the world.
The 47-metre booster provided 3.6 million pounds of thrust almost equivalent to the
thrust of 14 Boeing 747-400s at take-off. The rocket will take off for its first uncrewed
test flight in late 2018.
Badminton-playing robot developed
Students and teachers at the University of Electronic Science and Technology,
China, have developed a robot, nicknamed 'Robomintoner' that can play
badminton.
It uses a camera and has a binocular vision system, imitating humans, to locate the
flying shuttlecock. It then uses Bluetooth to communicate the data to a base station to
determine where the shuttlecock is likely to land.

The President Pranab Mukherjee received the first copy of a book The Education President from Vice
President, Mohammad Hamid Ansari at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
The book published by the International Institute for Higher Education Research & Capacity Building, OP Jindal Global
University.
The book highpoints President Mukherjees involvement to the field of higher education as Visitor to 116 institutions of
