The way I look at life based off of what I have learned in AP Psychology, is no different then

how I look at life now. Besides the intense selection vocabulary. I have been aware of mostly

everything, except for a few things. I have been encountered and witnessed of mental

disorders/illnesses, because I happen to have a brother who was diagnosed with Autism

Spectrum disorder. I also have an uncle who has ADHD.

Cognitive Development is a subject that I already knew about, because of Parenting and

developing. So this helped me retain a little more information on this specific subject at the time.

Maslow and his hierarchy made an influence on a childs dire need and their wants. Cognitive

development also influences the childs behavior and why they act as such. The definition of

Cognitive Development is the psychological focus of the way a child develops.

We also learned about the parts of the brain, lobes, neurons, neurons transmitters, the function of

the brains and the functions within those functions. The lobes are Occipital, Frontal, Parietal and

Temporal. Each lobe is located in a specific place in the brain and they have different functions.

They helped the brain and body in many different ways. Occipital lobe is responsible for vision.

Frontal is responsible for problem solving, memory, language and sexual behavior. Parietal is

responsible for sensory information and Temporal is responsible for hearing. All these lobes help

contribute to most of the functions our body carries out.

The different diagnoses for different mental illnesses are either produced by their environment or

their genetics. Some psychologist can diagnose a mental illness by symptoms but can be

misdiagnosed and can make the patients condition worse. During my time in this class learning

about these disorders. I feel as if I can interact with a person that has these symptoms better than

when I first arrived. Due to my experiences with family members and close friends.

I would speak on the ways psychology has opened my eyes when it comes to sleeping

disorders. Most of my friends have told me theyve experienced these things but I never

understood why until this semester. The brain is capable of some things its difficult and we still

have more to figure out. Im glad psychology could show me and give me information on how

the brain works and why certain people act as such or go through specific things they may

witness. I do feel like I can go into a deeper explanation on the mental, social and emotional

illnesses people face.

People of all ages, races, ethnicities and genders, are liable to have any disorder. Once again,

you can receive it from your parents. Or it could just happens as you develop in the womb and or

as you grow. There has been many people that I know who have been diagnosed with a disorder

and no one in their family has it. Or it could have skipped a generation, in other words what I am

saying is, you dont always have to have a disorder based off of genetics.

I also was re-informed about all the doctors that are within psychology. Such as, psychologists,

Psychiatrist, Cognitive Behaviorist, etc. A Psychologist is a doctor who studies in psychology or

the study of the brain. Psychiatrist is a Doctor who diagnoses and treats those mental illnesses.

Cognitive Behaviorist is a doctor who practices on treating mental illnesses.
