CLASSIFICATION: Airworthiness
APPLICABLE AIRCRAFT: This FOT is applicable to A319ceo and A320ceo aircraft fitted with MOD
154327 (installation of jet pumps transfer system). This FOT does not apply to aircraft equipped with
MOD 158740 or MOD 159331.
Notice: This FOT provides information about a significant operational issue that is
related to airworthiness or safety. It is each Operators responsibility to distribute this
FOT or to distribute the information contained in this FOT, to all of their applicable
flight crews without delay. Failure to apply this FOT may have a significant impact on
safe aircraft operations.
1. PURPOSE / INTRODUCTION
Due to a wiring issue on aircraft equipped with MOD 154327, the fuel recirculation is not inhibited in case of
gravity fuel feeding.
This reduces the gravity fuel feeding ceiling.
JETB and JP4 fuels are more affected than other types of fuel (gravity feed ceiling would be too low),
therefore they are removed from the list of usable fuels. These fuels are only available in remote places
and their removal should not affect airline operations.
With this wiring issue, the FLSCU (Fuel Level Sensing Control Unit) gravity feeding logic does not
work as designed.
3.1 Consequences
This condition can lead to a reduced fuel pressure at the engine inlets, possibly resulting in an
uncommanded single or dual in-flight shut-down when applying the Fuel Grvty Feed procedure and
flying at the gravity feed ceiling levels that are defined in the Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM), Flight Crew
Operating Manual (FCOM) and Quick Reference Handbook (QRH).
To address this deviation, Airbus issued AFM Temporary Revision (TR) 695 Issue 1 for CFM engines
and AFM TR699 Issue 1 for IAE engines, to prohibit the use of Jet B and JP4 fuel, and AFM TR700
Issue 1 to amend the gravity feed procedure for the other fuels.

FLIGHT OPERATIONS TRANSMISSION - FOT
EASA has also issued AD 2016-0205 that mandates AFM TR695 Issue 1 or AFM TR699 Issue 1, as
applicable, and AFM TR 700 Issue 1.
The Limitation chapter of the FCOM has been updated with the removal of JETB and JP4 fuels.
5. FOLLOW-UP PLAN
MOD 158740 and MOD 159331 will correct the wiring issue. They will allow to recover the use of
JETB and JP4 fuels, and the certified levels of the fuel gravity feed ceiling.
For production aircraft, MOD 158740 is certified. The above mentioned AFM TRs and FCOM /
QRH updates do not apply to aircraft fitted with this modification. EASA have issued AMOC
(Alternate Means Of Compliance) Approval 10059888 to confirm that MOD 158740 removes
the need for the AFM TRs.
For in-service aircraft, MOD 159331 will be certified in November 2016. The associated SB
28-1242 will cancel the need for the above mentioned AFM TRs and FCOM / QRH updates.
