After solving the problem with analytical method, a Finite Element Software is used to
solve the problem numerically, in this case ABAQUS is used. After modelling the problem, we
use different number of elements to show the margin of error between the numerical and
analytical method

- 1 Element

Displacement = 1,038 x 104 m


- 5 Element

Displacement = 1,308 x 104 m


- 10 Element

Displacement = 1,349 x 104 m


- 20 Element

Displacement = 1,371 x 104 m


- 30 Element

Displacement = 1,378 x 104 m

We can see from the table that by adding number of element, the result of the numerical
method will approach the result of the result of analytical method. Using just 1 element is not
enough because it will give larger margin of error.
From the above table, we can see that by increasing the number of elements, the
difference between the analytical method and numerical method is getting closer. If we keep
increasing the number of elements, eventually the result between analytical method and
numerical method will be the same.
