Re: Recommendation letter for Sebastian Diaz May

To: Whom it may concern

It is an honor and with great pleasure that I write this letter of

recommendation for Sebastian Diaz, a student here at Francisco Bravo Medical
Magnet High School. I first met Sebastian as a sophomore last school year when
he approached me after I distributed a survey to the whole school regarding
interest in starting a school garden. He had been learning about GMOs and
modern agriculture in one of his other classes developing a peaked interest in
working with me and made a point of letting me know how important this was for
him
Ive been amazed since that day with the level of sincere commitment,
enthusiasm, and incentive that hes demonstrated to grow a project that started
with a simple interest survey. What started out as an idea has now grown to a fully
realized project on campus thanks to Sebastians sustained dedication. This school
year we have started a successful garden club with nine leading officers, including
Sebastian as president, and about 30 other general members. He has been a part
of every step in the process which has included winning a grant from LAUSD for
100K to build the garden, drafting various other grant proposals and raising an
additional 15K for the school, part of which is attributed to the team winning a
competition in water conservation for our campus featuring a video media
product. The progress and success of our collective endeavors has exceeded any
expectations and has garnered the support of the schools administration and
other teachers, as well as from organizations like Kaiser, USC Keck, Tree People,
and the Whole Kids Foundation to name some. Sebastian has been at the forefront
of this success attending meetings, writing grants, networking, and inviting others
to join the project while holding the guiding vision of a school garden that
realistically may not be finished being built before he graduates.
Aside from his involvement in this project, he is also president of the School
Site Counsel, is taking various AP courses, is an essential musician in the schools
band, and has a record of outstanding academic achievement and civic
engagement. Stating a rating of exceptional would be an understatement
regarding his emotional intelligence, maturity, motivation, and productive
participation in class.
What is most enlightening about Sebastian is his level of social awareness
and tenacious commitment to using his abilities to work towards solving some of
our most current pressing issues such as community health, public education,
sustainability, and innovation. He will contribute this and much more to any
