1. INTRODUCTION

Due to the various ways of exercises on the college campus, a wide


variety of wastes are created and gathered, extending from general
wastes and recyclable materials, through to exceptional and
dangerous wastes. The college has an obligation to guarantee that
these wastes are discarded capably. This policy sets down the
framework for all waste management at the campus.

2. PURPOSE

To express, the key means by which the Wellbeing and Social


Care and environmental college campus will meet its lawful
commitments and obligatory prerequisites in regard of the
Management of Waste.

3. SCOPE

Sahodra Rai Govenment Polytechnic College,Sagar sees mindful


waste administration as fundamental to lessening its ecological
impression and to giving a sheltered and sound workplace for
individuals, representatives, students, staff members and visitors and
so on.

4. POLICY STATEMENT

The college will adopt the standards of the 'best practicable


ecological alternative' in the conveyance of its waste management
administration.
The College will apply a waste various levelled approach, to reduce,

reuse, recycle and recover waste items in preference to the transfer

of waste to landfill.

The college perceives the significance of meeting these legitimate
prerequisites and to deal with its waste mindfully, diminish the
volume of waste sent to landfill and boost reuse and reusing where
conceivable.
As per the Policy statement, the college will satisfy the various
policy objectives.

5. POLICY OBJECTIVES

The following are the objectives of this policy:


To limit the wastes at source and encourage repair, reuse and
reusing over the transfer of wastes, where it is practical.
To give clearly defined roles and responsibilities to distinguish
and co-ordinate each action inside the waste administration
chain.
To advance and promote natural and environmental mindfulness
so as to increment and energize waste minimisation, reuse, and
recycling.
To secure where conceivable income for recyclable material to
reinvest into the development of reusing openings on the
college campus.
To guarantee the sheltered taking care of and capacity of
wastes on campus.
To give training and repairing skills to staffs and students on
waste management issues and related to problems.
To advance and promote laboratory waste management best
practice.
To name a skilled person(s) to give waste management and
administration guidance.

6. DEFINITIONS

Waste separation is the process of separating waste at the point of


generation and keeping types of waste separate during handling,
accumulation, interim storage, and transportation.
Waste management is the gathering, transport, preparing or
processing, reusing or recycling, transfer or disposal, and observing
of waste materials. The term more often identifies with materials
created by human activity, and it is for the most part embraced to
diminish the impacts of waste on wellbeing, nature or feel and to
recover resources through recycling.

7. TYPES OF WASTE

Biodegradable waste incorporates any natural matter in waste which


can be separated into carbon dioxide, water, methane or
straightforward natural particles by miniaturized scale living beings
and other living things utilizing fertilizing the soil, vigorous
absorption, anaerobic assimilation or comparative procedures.
Non-biodegradable waste is a kind of waste that cannot be separated

9. PRINCIPLES

A range of waste management strategies is undertaken by the


college to create a safe, secure and environmentally friendly
workplace.

The prevention and minimisation of waste material being created is


an important method of waste management.

College uses extra waste decrease techniques including the reuse of


items, repairing broken things as opposed to purchasing new, utilizing
refillable cartridges or reusable items, for example, cotton rather than
plastic shopping sacks.

College uses bio-waste in making compost. Food scraps
collected on campus are picked up by our sweepers and transfer

12. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Heads of the College
Responsible for:
Non-hazardous Wastes: (central waste and recycling contract);
ensuring that no hazardous waste is disposed of through the general

Hazardous Wastes: nominating a responsible person within their
college to coordinate waste disposal for any hazardous or clinical
wastes.

Nominated Responsible Person


Responsible for:

Signing all college Waste Transfer Notes.


Establishing and maintaining a record keeping system in
order that the movements of all wastes can be tracked.
Make these records available for wherever is needed.
Supplying information and paperwork on all wastes disposed
of, when it is required.
Attending appropriate training programme.

Staff
Responsible for:

Disposing of waste responsibly, through the appropriate waste


stream, in accordance with college policy and procedures.

Reporting any problems with waste collection schemes to the


college Helpdesk.

Students
Responsible for:

Disposing of waste responsibly, through the appropriate waste

13. RISK MANAGEMENT

Risks required with waste administration are frequently surveyed,
