Re: Request for Information

Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act

Dear Bob Mackin:

BC Housing received your request for information under the Freedom of Information
and Protection of Privacy Act (the Act) on April 7, 2010. You requested a copy of the
allotment of tickets to the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics for BC Housing
executives, staff, clients, beneficiaries and allied organizations under the Celebrate
2010 Ticket Program. Also requested was any records relation to a master invoice and
receipt for payment, inventory and distribution reports, including a list of individuals and
organizations that received tickets and the corresponding quantities.

The Celebrate 2010 ticket program was created by VANOC and its partners to share
the dream of attending Canada's Games with people who might not have the financial
means to purchase tickets. VANOC worked with a range of community partners,
including BC Housing, to ensure a fair distribution of Celebrate 2010 tickets.

Through BC Housing's community partnership channels, VANOC advises us that

approximately 18,000 tickets were distributed to low income households living in
subsidized housing. However, BC Housing only has records that relate to the tickets
distributed to our public housing tenants.

Attached are records relating to the community organizations that provide services at
our directly managed public housing sites. These organizations were invited to request
tickets under the Celebrate 2010 Ticket Program. The organizations had to meet the
mandate of the Celebrate 2010 program and be able to provide the support required to
the tenants to ensure they could attend the Games. These community organizations
were given the opportunity to request tickets by completing the records attached and
where the records include the tenant's personal information BC Housing has severed
the records under section 22(1) of the Act so we could provide you with the record.

All records requesting tickets were collected by BC Housing and submitted to VANOC
for consideration. VANOC determined the number of tickets they would allot to the
community service providers, gave BC Housing the tickets and we distributed them to
the community service providers.

BC Housing did not purchase any tickets for the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics
and therefore we do not have any invoices or receipt for payment records.

Under section 52 of the Act, you may ask the Information and Privacy Commissioner to
review any matter concerning BC Housing's response to your request. You have 30
days from receipt of this notice to request a review by writing to:

Paul Fraser
A/Information and Privacy Commissioner
PO Box 9038, Stn Prov Govt
Victoria, BC V8W 9A4

If you have any questions or require any further information or clarification regarding
your request please call Debra Barby, Director, Business Support Services at
604 439-4746 or email dbary@bchousng.org.

If you request a review, please provide the Commissioner's office with a copy of this
letter and the original request for information that you sent to BC Housing.

Yours truly,

Shayne Ramsay
Chief Executive Officer

i\ Nicholas,
would say that we would be able to bring 15 youth with 2 or 3 supervisors. Public transit is a stressful way to travel with youth
md I think that 5-7 youth per instructor would be the only safe way. This is very exciting. We could also take more youth with
nore staff if that is an option.

Vow...this would be a great opportunity for our tenants at Alderhaven. We could potentially have 10-12 tenants interested, plus
iupport staff. Any events would be greatly appreciated such as open/closing ceremonies, figure skating, hockey, etc!! Count us in

i\ all,

JC Housing has partnered with VANOC to distribute 2010 Olympic and Paralympic event tickets to our tenants.
ks front line service providers you are well positioned to assist those tenants who are not able to attend on their own.
Ne are inviting you to consider chaperoning a group or a few groups of tenants from your sites as part of your regular
;ervice/support programming.
'our staff will receive complimentary tickets in exchange for attending with tenant groups.

"his is a preliminary exploration to guage interest from our service partners.

f you think you would like to coordinate tenant group outtings to sports events and/or ceremony celebrations, please reply back to
ne indicating how many tenants you could bring at a time and how many outtings you would like to coordinate. Transportation will
je by public transit - or any other options that you can coordinate.
)nce we find out how many tenants can be accomodated, we will plan how to allocate spaces.

Jest,
Jick
