LILIYANA NATSIR

*Personal Identity*

Who doesn't know Liliyana Natsir?.She is one of the famous badmintoon

players in Indonesia.Liliyana Natsir (32 years old), also known as Butet, is a
daughter of Beno Natsir and Olly Maramis. She was born in Manado, on Sept 9th,
1985. She has an older sister named Calista Natsir.

 Her current partner is Tantowi Ahmad in mixed double players. She had
ever competed in Uber Olympic (in 2004, 2008 and 2010), Sudirman Olympic (in
2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011),reached silver medal in Beijing Olympic in
2008 in mixed doubles together with Nova Widiarto. Liliyana and Tantowi
Ahmad succesfully got the gold medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 in mixed doubles
players.

*How could she be called as Butet?*

When I was child, I was so spoiled since I was the youngest in my big
family.Some senior said that i was so spoiled Liliyana said. Then, there was a
Medanish senior and he asked me What is your name. My name is Liliyana.
Then, he said. It is too long. I will call you as Butet, okay?. At least, I am
called as Butet till nowadays, Liliyaa sid.

Liliyanas Career

 At first, Liliyana liked badminton and always played it in the yard with her
sister.Liliyanas father knew her daughters talent and desire, then he dicided to
register her daughter to a badminton club named Pisok in Mandao. According to
Beno Natsir, he registered his daughter to the badminton club to hel her
daughters talent aimed.He thought that it would be impossible for Liliyana to
develop her talent if she played only in the frontyard fo her house. Liliyana was
very happy to hear his fathers offer.Finally, she started occupying badminton in
Pisok club when she was 9 years old. Although she had to change the public
transportation twice if she wanted to go to the club, she never felt lazy to practice.
Her capability was much better than the children who entered the club before her.
One day, when Liliyana was 12 years old and it was holiday, Liliyana and
her mother went to Jakarta to have a holiday there.Not only that, after having a
consideration, Liliyanas parents agreed that Liliyana registered in Jakartas
badminton club.Liliyanas father assumed that Liliyana would not be successful in
sport, especially badminton, if she stayed in Manado. He wanted to see Liliyana
gained her success so he registered her daughter to Jakarta badminton
club.Liliyana could be a part of that club successfully.But, at that time, she got
some difficulties and hard choices.She had to choose between continuing her
study or starting her carier in sport.At least, she decided to leave her study and
start her carier in sport with the opinion that education and sport were two things
that could not be done together. She decided to focus on sport.That was the hard
choice ever for Liliyana. sHe was very worried about her future and afraid of
being a loser. She asked herself, What would I do if I am fail?. She had left her
education.Moreover, there were some people ho underestimated her
choice.Liliyana was very confident to continue joining the badminton club. Then,
a new problem arose, by joining the club, it meant that she had to live there
without her parents and her hometown.For a young girl like Liliyana, she could
not imagine to live alone and far away from her parents.
Liliyanas mother was very worried if she left Liliyana alone without any
supervision. she asked Liliyana to stay in the clubs dormitory whereas she had
known that the dormitory was only for the member who had had some
achievemnt. Liliyana was allowed to live in the dormitory.After her parents want
home, she cried every night because she missed her parents. Based on her
convention, when she lived in the dormitory, she was the one who always got
calls from her family.
Liliyana said that she had ever wanted to stop her struggle in badminton
because she had not got any title but, she worked hard.When she was teen, she
won a competition in mixed double players with Markis Kido, an she became the
junnior Asian Champion in mixed double players.She got her first world
champion title in 2005 when she had not been 20 years old with her partner, nova
widianto, in mixed double players. She made all the people proud of her.Together

with Nova Widianto, Her carier in badminton increased.They got so many
achievements until they became the world champion in 2017. Liliyana tried
something different. She joined in women double mixed players. In 2007, her
partner was Vita Marissa, the ex-partner of Nova Widianto before Vita got
injury.Her women double players carier was started in Chine Master Super Series
in 2007.
At that time, surprisingly, they sucessfully defeated Chinas players.That
was very good begining for debut.At least, Vita Marissa officially became
Liliyanas partner in women double players until this couple became the first
women double players of Indonesia in Thomas Uber Cup in 2008 held in Istora
Senayan, Jakarta by being the finalist and became the firts runner up.
In the same year, Vita and Liliyana became the Champion of women
double players in the final of Indonesia Open Djarum Super Series in Istora
Senayan. Unfortunately, they separated after Vita decided to stop joining
Pelatnas.Since Vita took her decision, Liliyana stopped playing in women double
players, except in an urgent condition.
Being old, Nova Widianto decided to stop playing badminton and it made
Liliyana have no partner.This condition made her coach, Richard Manaky,
confused. However, Liliyana and Nova Widianto were the mixed double players
who were at the first rank of BWF.Then, Richard choose Devin Fitriawan as
Liliyanas partner. Their first debut in Grand Pix Gold in Malaysia in 2010
showed good result.They successfully defeated a couple from Thailand, Sudket
Prapakarnol and Saralee Tongthoungkam.But, after that, Richard changed
Liliyanas partner and he chose Tontowi Ahmad as Liliyanas partner.
It seemed like Richards decision was very appropriate.Liliyana and
Tontowi successfully got so many titles in some competitions such as All England
3 times (in 2012 2014) and they also got the thirdposition in mixed double
players games which became the first title for Tontowi Ahmad in 2013. Liliyana,
then, was declared as a woman athlete with so many achievements. In 2016, in
Rio de Janerio Olympiade, Liliyana and Tontowi gained a golf medal in mixed
double players sector.
