Abstract

Chromium is one of the most toxic chemical compounds because of its increased level
in the environment as a result of metallurgies refractory, chemical and tannery
industries as well as by agricultural practices. Absorption method for determination of
chromium (VI) concentration is proposed and the method is operated using
spectrophotometer. Spectrophotometer used is to trace the presence of chromium. The
value of absorbance in the standard solution and the water sample are measure using
spectrophotometer. The result from the spectrophotometer shows that the value of the
absorbance increase as the value of concentration increase. The concentration of
chromium (V) in the drain water sample tested is 205.47 parts per million which the
value is not suitable for for drinking and agriculture proposes. The experiment is
completed and successfully conducted.

Recommendation

A few recommendation and precaution must be considered while conducting the

experiment in order to get more accurate values.

First, avoiding fingerprint or any dust that outside the sample cell surface which will
lead the inaccuracy of the reading of absorbance value of spectrophotometer.

Next, the sample cell also should be cleaned and dried properly with distilled water
before it is filled with samples in order to avoid inaccurate contents.

Besides, for further studies, it is recommended to use a different approached such as

the reading might not be accurate.
