RATIONALE and GOAL(S) FOR THIS UNIT: The rationale for this unit is to get students to
understand and learn about the web-based program Visor.io. Student will take these two weeks to
learn how to create, add to, and customize this program so they can create in virtual reality. This is
important to teach because this is a step in the direction that the world is moving in and a new form
that people are starting to create art in. I believe it is important to teach students about contemporary
art and new ways to create. I also find this relevant to my students because of their high interest in
video games. This program is a way to boost their interest and connect one of their hobbies to the art
world. This makes this unit and class meaningful because it is connecting to students lives outside of
school.

ENDURING BIG IDEA:

The Big Idea is Basics. I have connected the big idea of Basics to this class because students need
to know the fundamentals of this program and the rules to follow before they can use this program to
create their artwork. Here, students will learn and explore along with people already creating in
Vizor.io. These are not well known artists, but some of their user names are: Machinedrum, chriz,
Ldia Erharuyi, G Wilson, and many more. They will watch videos created to help them walk through
the essentials of creating in Vizor.io.
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
How do other artists create using Vizor.io?
Is Vizor.io a way to create art?
What are the possibilities for Vizor.io?

KNOWLEDGE BASE and KEY CONCEPTS:

Students will know:
Information about different Vizor.io artists.
How to connect object to one another.
How to change an objects material/texture.
How to create complex creatures.
How to add a face (or other details) to a creature.
How to add a trigger that can change something about the setting.
How to articulate their thoughts verbally and visually.
How to find resources for Vizor.io.
How to articulate their thoughts about the lessons through blogs.
How to submit their links.
How to respond to peers images and blogs with a WOWIE and WHAT IF.

OBJECTIVES:
Students will:
Answer the essential questions.
Practice skills by completing a top hat, house, and creature; then publishing the links for each
task.
Respond to peers links to help build community and communication between students.
Articulate their thoughts and actions they took within these projects through a blog/vlog.
Turn in their links to blackboard to be assess.
Will reply to peers to give a WOWIE and WHAT IF.

UNIT AND LESSON VIGNETTE:

Note: This is a unit that I am creating for an online Computer Art class I am teaching this year. With
online education there are no transitions to consider. Our agenda is set up weekly, so Ill be breaking
the unit plan into weeks so it is realistic for my current teaching situation. I estimate students
spending around 3-5 hours working on their art each week (45-60 minutes per day). Each week will
look similar because my students work better when they have a routine and structure that they have
already become familiar with. Students have a Vizor.io account and have already proven that they
know basic skills. Students are also allowed to work in an alternative setting, if they determine that it
better fits their design, and after communicating this to me. These are places to explore what they are
learning about and reflecting on their experience visually and then writing a reflective blog to
accompany their creativity.

WEEK TWO
Try to complete all assignments by Friday.
Week Two assignments will not be accepted after midnight Friday of Week Three.

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AND ADAPTATIONS FOR SPECIAL NEEDS:

Differentiate Tools for My Diverse Classroom:
o Text to Speech apps for their readings
o Students using Speech to Text apps for their blogs
o Making sure the materials that students use fit their small and large motor abilities
o Allowing the students to create what has meaning to them and being open to the
unknown outcome.
Keeping Students Engaged:
o By allowing them to create artwork for personal reflection
o By making computer art lessons more hands on with less text to read
o By giving them the ability to make choices and problem solve for themselves.
Challenge Highly Talented Students:
o Ask them to try an unfamiliar medium
o Encourage them to continue to research the Big Idea and to dig deeper into the
content.
When Students Finish Early:
o One great thing about online education is student can finish early without needed busy
work to keep them from bothering others.
o They need to make sure to login each day for attendance
o Work on other work from previous units
o Work on other work from a different class

ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES:
With this class being online, it is hard to really get substantial formative assessments. I am
able to see what they are thinking and the steps students take by reading and responding to their
blogs. How the students receive points is if they hit the word count and stay on topic for their
discussion board writings and explanations of what they did that week and turned in their link(s). If
they do both of these tasks, 100% is awarded to the students.

Examples of Summative Assessment for this Unit:

Students need to think about what these contemporary artists work have to do with the idea of
this new medium of art and explore how they created with Vizor.io.
When students complete assignments one, two, and three, they will be graded on if their
project followed the objectives within in the videos and if their blog/vlog was on topic and met the
word count minimum. Then when they respond to three of their peers work with a WOWIE and
WHAT IF.
