Please accept my resume and cover letter as an application for the position of Superintendent of
Hamilton County Public Schools. After reviewing the advertised qualifications, I believe that I
have the background, professional knowledge, vision, and commitment to excellence that are
required for this position.
Currently I am Chief Academic Officer for Leon County Schools, a district of almost 35,000
students. Prior to working in Leon County, I was the Executive Director for Reading and Early
Learning for the State of Florida. Before becoming the Director of Reading and Early Learning, I
was a Regional Executive Director with the Florida Department of Education, charged with
working with Superintendents and schools throughout panhandle of Florida to improve
educational outcomes for all students. I began my career in Broward County, Florida (the 6th
largest schools system in the country) as a paraprofessional, a classroom teacher, moving up
through the administrative ranks to become the Director of Curriculum Support K-12. Through
strategic professional development and data-driven decision-making, I have established a
proven record of closing the achievement gap, thus creating educational equity throughout my
district and in Broward County. I am passionate in my beliefthat we must have schools where
teachers and students are excited to be part of teaching and learning each day. We have to be
on the cutting edge of innovation because our youngest students will graduate from our schools
and take jobs that currently do not exist.
Over my career, I have cultivated strong working relationships with school and community
stakeholders with the primary goal of increasing student achievement. I have successfully
directed the implementation of instructional programs and professional development, resulting in
Leon County's success. Leon County Schools exceeded the state's percent of students
achieving proficiency for ELA and math in grades 3-8, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 on
the Florida Standards Assessment in 2015-16. Leon County Schools increased its graduation
rate to 92%, outperforming the state's rate. The graduation rate of African American students,
now at 85%, has also shown sustained improvement. We have over 2,900 qualifying scores on
AP exams, an 81% pass rate on IB exams, and 1,292 Dual Enrollment credits earned. These
gains are not the result ofthe work of any single person. They have occurred because ofthe
collective efforts of the entire school system working together for a common goal.
For more than three decades, I have been an educational leader in the areas of curriculum,
instruction, assessment, professional development, accountability, and district management of
resources. My roles reflect experiences as a teacher, district administrator, instructional coach,
school administrator, and state leader. These roles have enabled me to inspire trust, maintain
confidence and optimism, and model high standards of integrity and personal performance.
Throughout my career, I have remained committed to a "students first," philosophy in all
decisions. In my day-to-day interactions with educational staff, I exhibit a willingness to listen
and make informed decisions that ensure all stakeholders have a deep understanding of our
shared vision.
On a daily basis I am in schools working alongside administrators, teachers and support staff.
Each day I work hard to build trust and consensus which always innovative practices to take
hold and expand because our stakeholders see the value of the change process.
Having gone to college and worked in east Tennessee, the Chattanooga area has always held
special meaning in my life. The sustained excellence demonstrated during my career has
prepared me for this challenging position. Therefore, I sincerely hope that the Board of
Education will consider me for the position of Superintendent of Hamilton Public Schools.
Sincerely,
Stuart Greenberg
