Running around, playful animals enjoy their happy life. People are friends with dogs,
horses, parrots and many other animals. Thinking animals do not have a job except of eating,
sleeping, and playing. If people thought that, they are probably wrong. Animals have much more
abilities than just staying at home. For example, trained dogs might help rescue the frozen bodies
in the cold snow, help blind people locate, police dogs or a sniff dog are used for detection of
drugs or contraband, and hunting dogs used to hunt food for the hunter, But all these jobs do not
equalise to the jobs animals did in WW1. Messenger birds, rescue dogs, carrying camels,
Firstly discussing different animals used in WW1 were dogs. Dogs have done several
different jobs while serving in the army. For example, the messenger dogs had received and sent
messages, Dogs were used as messengers and proved to be as reliable as soldiers in the
dangerous job of running messages (Trueman). In addition, dogs also were obedient to a
specific officer, for example, They were trained to accompany usually one specific guard and
were taught to. . .growl, bark. . . (Trueman). Furthermore, scout dogs did have a tough job
aswell, Their role was to work with soldiers on foot patrolling the terrain ahead of them. These

dogs were useful to the military because they could detect enemy scent up to 1000 yards
away. . . (Trueman). Finally, dogs also served as close friends, For men trapped in the horrors
at trench warfare. . .a dog must have reminded them of home comforts. (Trueman). All of the
details above showed that dogs had different and hard jobs during WW1. In conclusion, different

army.
Secondly, there were many messenger pigeons that carried messages from one destination
to the other. For example, this shows why the pigeons were, Pigeons played a vital part in WW1
as they provided to be an extremely reliable way of sending messages (Trueman). This fact
shows how many pigeons were used during the war, Over 100,00 were used. . .success rate of
95% getting to their destination. (Trueman). Furthermore, . . .all of the pigeons at the Marne
returned to their lofts despite the fact that they would have flown blind not knowing where their
loft was ( Trueman). Finally, this shows how to send messages through the pigeon, Messenger
pigeons only work in one direction. They always fly home. . .you first send the pigeon to the
other person. . .When they feel the need to send to send you an urgent message, they attach the
message. . .and let it go (How do messenger pigeons work?). All of the facts above show how
pigeons worked, what did they do, and the amount of them during WW1. In short, there were
messenger pigeons that carried messages from one destination to the other.
At last, there were carrier horses that also transported weight and people. This shows why
the horses were used during WW1, for example, Horses were primarily to be used as a form of
transport during war (Trueman). This shows similarity of how they were used in WW1, for
another example They captured footage and stills of horses in action, from their struggles in the

mud of the somme, to teams of horses pulling artillery guns (Baker). Furthermore, Supply
horses and mules were used to move ammunition, general supplies and ambulances. Riding
horses were ridden. . .Teams of gun horses pulled artillery pieces. . .Cavalry horses were still
used in battle (Baker). Finally, this fact shows what happened to the horses at the end of WW1,
At the end of the war the British army owned just under 800,000 horses. . .Working out with
them was a major challenge for both the army and the Treasury (Baker). All of the quotes above
showed how horses worked, and the point of their usage in WW1. In conclusion, carrier horses
transported weight and people and used in WW1 for a long time.
All of the facts above show different animals used in WW1. Their jobs, purpose, and
amount. Each animal had its own tough job that they had to complete during the war. Some
animals even got medals for their hard work, for example dogs. In opinion, dogs had the most
hardest and the most dangerous job during this terrible war.
