Assessments Tell me one thing you learned from the lesson before you line up to leave.
1. What steps did you go through to create this lesson? With whom did you talk, discuss, or edit your
lesson?
In order to make my lesson go smoothly, I spent a lot of time discussing what I wanted to do with my
teacher. We talked about which class would be the best one to teach and how to approach them in a way
they would understand the concept of a composer and how compositions are created. I used Mrs. Ashburys
curriculum guide binder to give me the cornerstones, SOLs and objectives. Then, I took that information and
created essential questions. Therefore, I used what Mrs. Ashbury had for games which gave me the idea to
talk about John Williams. I edited my lesson with Mrs. Free to see if things were acceptable or appropriate.
2. How did the SOLs and Objectives help focus your instruction?
The SOLs and Objectives help focus my instruction by giving them structure of what to expect. It explained to
them what they would be learning and how to apply to the music theyve heard in movies.
3. What parts of the instructional plan worked as you anticipated?
The best part that worked exactly the way I thought was the warmup. We sung the Fairfield School Song
which is the song they sing at graduation. In addition, we sung Hey Ho in rounds so they can understand how
John Williams created compositions with harmonies and melodies. Therefore, this helped the students to be
comfortable and be engaged so when I asked questions they always wanted to share even if they werent sure
of what the movie was about it. They used a vivid imagination and created multiple visions.
4. What, if any, adjustments needed to be made once you began?
I didnt have any major adjustments except the game. Originally, I planned for them to play the game in a
circle but I changed it to Hand Up- Pair Share because it was much quicker and I was running out of time.
