and how social media can effect self-confidence. We have learnt to (ACPPS070

cyberbullying.

Rationale:

The Selfie Challenge assessment has been derived from the year 7 Health

content delivered in the first term of the school year. The content of work

during the first term focused on engaging and interactive activities

associated with:

Change: changes year 7 students may face transitioning into

secondary schooling, both physical and psychological development

with the onset of puberty, as well as how to recognise and

acknowledge emotions throughout these changes.

Personal identity: discovering own identity, how an individuals

identity can develop through time, internal and external influences

on personal identity and how to build self-confidence.

Social media: different types of social media, how individuals depict

themselves in the media, the best self and likes culture, how body

image is portrayed in the media, what is real and what is not real

and the importance of switching off from social media and methods

of how to do so.
Bullying: different types of bullying including cyberbullying, the

effects of bullying and what to do if you are the bully or being

bullied.

The purpose of the Selfie Challenge assessment is to collaborate a range

of the content students have learnt over the first term period in particular

personal identity, social media and bullying. Students are to apply

learning gathered throughout the term as well as use appropriate

strategies to gather relevant information; creating an assessment that

caters for both factual understanding, higher thinking and personal

analysis.

The assessment is conducive with the year 7 Health curriculum by

acknowledging the curriculum link (ACPPS070); personal, social and

community health; being healthy, safe and active; feelings and emotions

associated with transitions; and practising of self-talk as well as strategies

to promote safety in online environments.

Developing the poster using Glogster is to initiate interest in the

assessment, the online tool is interactive and allows students to be

creative while developing their ICT skills. The purpose of including the

unfiltered selfie and a paragraph on qualities the student likes about

themselves is to create a positive presence in the social media world

rather than a negative unrealistic one that is predominantly portrayed.

Once students have completed their posters they will be printed and

displayed in the classroom where a gallery walk will occur, students will

view and read each others posters while walking around and leaving

sticky notes with positive affirmations on them.

The Selfie Challenge assessment covers half the content covered in the

first term for year 7 Health. I have decided to give it a weighting of 30%

because there would be another in class assessment that term worth the
same; 30%, in class quizzes worth 15%, class participation; 15% and

homework; 10%.
