Introduction

Objectives:
Provide an overview of the Engineering Data manager.
Demonstrate the procedure for using the Engineering Data manager to enter,
store view,
store, view organize
organize, and import material property data
data.
Why?
To enter critical material property data.
To organize and share material property data.
Speed up the analysis process and improve work flow

Introduction

What is the Engineering Data Manager?

It is a tool for defining, storing, and organizing material properties.
Can use properties stored in material libraries.

Material Properties

The Engineering Data application is native to the Workbench

environment.
Engineering Data can be added as a standalone or as part of an Analysis
System.

The Engineering Data display is controlled by two icons on the toolbar:

The Physics Filter toggles between displaying all

materials/properties and displaying only materials/properties relevant to
the active analysis system.

The Data Source/Project toggle controls the Engineering Data

Sources display.
Engineering Data Sources = Material Libraries
Can add library materials to the Project

Material Properties

ANSYS supplies a number of material libraries shown above

above. New user
defined libraries may be added by entering a name and a location for the
library file.

Materials can be added to the Favorites area from multiple data sources
making it a custom library available in every project.

9
Material Properties

The Toolbox p
provides numerous material p
property
p y definitions that can be
added to new or existing materials.

To modify materials in existing libraries

libraries, the library must first be unlocked
unlocked.
Materials can be modified or added to the library.
Materials from other libraries can be added.

Other info:
Material Property import is available with Inventor, ProEngineer and NX.
Materials imported from CAD will appear in the Engineering Data item of the
analysis

Summary and Conclusions

The Engineering Data Manager

provides a powerful tool for defining,
organizing, and storing material
properties.
A great variety of material models are
available in the Toolbox menu.
Material data can be stored in libraries
which can be accessed in any project.
Properties can be temperature
dependent and will be plotted for
review.
To use Materials in a project, materials
must be added to the Engineering
D t ttable.
