Who Created God?

Why I Ask This Question

God is said to be the creator of everything: Heaven, Earth, the Universe, and what we see

around us everyday. I was baptized as a Catholic and I always had some questions. And I asked

this question because since everything has a cause and God created and caused everything, who

caused him? Who created God? Did he have a cause or was he uncaused? Is anything really

uncaused? These were the questions that I wanted answers to and who created God was my main

question.

My Knowledge Before The Research

I know that there are different religions and different opinions on this, some dont even

believe in a God. But, I know the people who are in religions believe and worship God or gods

with controlling and creating powers.

The Search

The first article I did my research on was an article from BioLogos, where there are

people who studied in both science and the bible and they tell about the harmony between

science and biblical faith. If everything in the universe has a cause, why does God get a free

pass? Dont we need an explanation for his origin as well? This is the question that is asked by

some people who is also wondering what formed God, what caused him. A popular argument is

that, since all effects come from causes, there must have been a first cause that is outside the
material worldan uncaused cause. So this is the main reasoning why people may wonder

how God started. They are wondering what caused him because everything they see around

them has a cause and effect, they havent seen an a thing that has been uncaused and was always

here. Science is powerless to answer that question, because it can only speak of terms of cause

and effect. They explain no one, even science, cant really answer this question. Science can

only explain and research things that can have a cause and effect and they cant speak of things

that has no cause and been here infinity. This text taught that time was created, it wasnt always

here. Humans cant understand how there is something that had no cause because we live in a

world where everything has an cause and effect. Everything around us and what we see is finite.

So its hard for us humans, who are finite, to understand something that is infinite. Its also hard

for us to understand a time where there was no time, because we live a time where all we know

is time. This article was very useful and relevant to this research because it applied science to

this reasoning, they explain science cant answer this since science can only explain things that

has causes and effects.

Another article that I researched for this questions is by the Administrator of the website,

questions on Islam. How come you attribute the property of being pre-eternal to matter, which

is completely opposite to pre-eternity, but you do not accept it for Allah? For this article, a guy

asked another person about matter and how it started. The answer the person gave was that

matter is pre-eternal. Then the guy who asked the question replied to his response by saying if

he think matter is pre-eternal, why cant he believe Allah can be pre-eternal also. He is saying if

he can believe something, why is it wrong for him to believe another thing? This websites gave

some examples like one about a wagon and a locomotive. He first explains the difference
between a wagon and a locomotive A wagon needs pulling while a locomotive pulls. Someone

keeps asking Who is pulling the wagon? and the person says, The locomotive is. After this

answer the person asks this, Who is pulling the locomotive then? The guy explained that it

moves by itself but the person didnt understand and asked who is pulling the locomotive again.

So he is trying to say how you have to know the difference between the two. Like we have to

know the difference between something that is caused and finite and something that is uncaused

and infinite, they are two different things. This source was relevant to my search and helpful

because it showed examples and reasoning for the facts that he stated and he is from the muslim

faith, so I have a perspective of what they think of this question.

Next, instead of articles I researched and read some of the religious scriptures. One of

them was the Quran. The Quran is the main text of Islam and was given by Muhammad in 609

CE. God! There is no god except He, the Living, the Everlasting. This states what they believe

in , they believe in a God who is everlasting and eternal.

He knows what is before them, and what is behind them; and they cannot grasp any of His

knowledge, except as He wills. This quotes from the scripture shows he was before all, he

knows more than us because he knows everything. He knows what's before us, before earth,

before anything that we have today. Its saying we cannot grasp any of the knowledge of his.

This source is relevant to my text because I have to make sure I look at different point of views

with different religious beliefs. This is relevant also because it helps further my understanding of

their perspective of my question and they answered it in their scripture.

Another scripture I have looked at is about the story Vishnu and Brahmas Competition.

The author is Satyananda Saraswati in 2016. Satyananda Saraswati is an Hindu spiritual teacher.
The text explained how in the hindu religion, there are three gods: Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva.

Vishnu and Brahma was having a competition on who is the most powerful god and who should

move aside from the other. They both thought they were the most powerful but then Shiva came

down in the middle and showed them how Shiva is the most powerful. So this shows how Shiva

appeared. This Shiva Lingam doesnt have an end. Im getting tired, and Im getting hungry

and Im going back, I cant find the end of the Shiva Lingam. Shiva is Infinite. This is when

Visnu and Brahma tried to find the beginning and the end of Shiva but the couldnt find any.

Liar! Brahma didnt take you from the top of the Shiva Lingam, nobody can measure the limits

of Infinity. This is when Brahma lied and said he found the beginning, the top of Shiva and

Shiva was disappointed of him and cut off one of his heads. This show how Shva is really

powerful and Shiva is infinity. This is relevant to my search because it explained the Hindu

religious belief and helped answered my question and it was explained by a professional of this

subject, a hindu spiritual teacher.

The last text I had researched on was the Christian bible. The Bible is written by man

inspired by the holy spirit, it was a primary source where the people who wrote it, lived in that

time. There are traditions and rulings in the bible. And stories in the bible and the bible showed

some of Gods plans and creations like earth and what he created the earth in 6 days and rested in

the 7th. It showed how powerful enough and how much he can do in a short period of time. In

Isaiah 43:10, Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye

may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed,

neither shall there be after me. This is explained there was no before God and there was no after

God. He was the first and no one created him, he wasnt formed, he was just always here. In
Jeremiah 10:10, But the Lord is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king.

This is explained he is a king, he is powerful enough and he is everlasting and knows more than

what we ever know. This helped with my research and was relevant because it was a primary

source and helped answer my question.

Then my next step was talking to a priest of the Christian religion. I asked the priest at

the church I attend, St. Hyacinth Basilica, my question. His name is Father Steve. Since he is a

priest and is a professional of this subject, he s relevant to my research. One of the quotes he told

me was from In Isaiah 43:10, before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after

me He said no one did. There was no before or after. He also explained how If we think

someone created God, we are gonna keep asking infinite questions. Who created God? Who

created the creator of God? Who created him? And him? So thats saying that its not only one

God, there are gods. And God is named God for a reason, he is the one and only and he is an

eternal being. This research helped me because I was face to face with a professional asking this

question.

After reading five different sources and asking a profession about this question, I started

watching videos too. One of the videos I watch was with the speaker, Zakir Abdul Karim Naik

and the video was published in March 28th, 2017. This person is qualified in this subject of my

question and is relevant because he is an Islamic preacher, and the founder and president of the

Islamic Research Foundation. He is speaker for the muslim faith and he is a preacher so people

listen to what he says and he states facts and he also gave some examples. The speaker, Zakir

Abdul Karim Naik, was asked by someone, Who created God? So he explained how they are

putting him in a different category. He said it's like asking that John went to the hospital, he is
pregnant and giving birth, is it a girl or a boy? He said that unanswerable question because he

cant and is put in a different category.Who created life is to be Allah. The definition of God is

uncreated therefore Almighty God have got no creator if he is a true Almighty God He is

saying God is not in the category where there's causes. He was not caused by anything, He is

God and the definition of God is uncreated. Almighty God is uncreated This was his final

answer. He said the Almighty God is uncreated. He is not created by anyone so my question is

not right because its not possible. This was helpful because he gave examples to support his

statement and he is speaking for the muslim faith and it gives me more of a perspective of what

they think.

The next speaker was with John Lennox and the video was published on May 10th, 2011

at The Veritas Forum at UCLA. John Lennox is qualified in this subject of the question and is

relevant to my search because he is a christian Apologist and a professor at University of Oxford.

He stated facts and a conversation he had with a physicist. The intended audience is for anyone

who is interested in what he has to say and his explanations. John Lennox has been asked this

question many times and he has been in many videos answering this question: Who created God?

He explained it and a experience with talking to a physicist. He asked him what is matter, energy

and gravity. He said he didnt know. But, the physicist still believes in it be cause of the power

they hold. Johnn replied back, You believe in these things [Energy, Gravity, Matter, etc]

because of their explanatory power as concepts...If you dont know what they are, dont be

surprised if youre going to get an element of this in God. Instead of saying no one created God,

he answered he doesnt know because we really don't know. We are not in a place where God is.

God is outside of time and we are not so we dont know what it means. But he did say So the
central Christian claim is and in Judaism and islam, of course equally, is that God is eternal,

because those are the perspectives of some religions. God is outside time..none of us has the

slightest idea of what it means to be outside time This is true because God is something that is

totally different from us and ws in a time totally different from us, he was outside of time, we

have no idea what it is like to be outside of time. This search helped me in my search because he

explained it and he also spoke for Christians. Judaism, and Islam.

The last speaker was Dr. William Lane Craig and the video was published on February

18th 2009. Dr. William Lane Craig is qualified in this subject of the question and is relevant to

my search because he is an analytic philosopher and Christian apologist. He was asked this

question and he explained well if you asked this question then you dont know who God is or

what he is capable of. He also said how atheists like Daniel Dennett recognize eternal verities

exist like numbers or mathematical objects, they dont need a cause because they never come

into being, they dont begin to exist. By asking this question you, fail to grasp such an idea is

to fail to grasp what God is And his explanation for saying you fail to grasp what God is is

because, If something is eternal and timeless then it doesnt fall under that first premise, it

doesn't need a cause. He is saying God is not caused he is self-existent. He is powerful enough

to be his own and not have a creator and if you ask that question you are questioning his power

and dont no the idea of God and what he is. This research helped me in my search because a

christian apologist explained it and he qualified in this subject and he also brought a point of

view of someone who is an atheist. And the atheist that somethings aren't created or come into

being.

What I Learned
What I learned from researching these past few weeks is that you have to understand the

power of God. And its all about faith and what you believe in. Its your belief and faith if you

want to believe in a God or gods and when you do you see how they have a power and see how

they are powerful enough to be themselves and have no creator. Like from the christian, muslim

and judaism faith.

What I Still Want to Know

And what I want to know now is what is it that makes people believe in the power of God

without knowing what it is to be outside of time. Or were they just raised up by this religion in

their family. How about the people who weren't raised into a religion, what caught their interest

in going into one?
