Why Do Humans Fall In Love ?

Why I Ask This Question

The reason I ask this question is because its a major question that many think about as one

develops mentally. Why do we love , what's the reason we do so and why is it irresistible. It's

just thoughts that have rolled through my mind and ive been curious about it. I just want to

further understand the concept , and the question is relevant to me is because ive experienced

falling in love before. Its something that's uncontrollable , but you don't know why it occurs.

This is different from asking google because you are expected to deeply think it through. Google

just gives you straight on answers but sometimes it's doesn't fit your expectation. Asking this

question rather than googling it makes you think and actually reflect on it. It really puts you to

work and understand the question to a personal level. What I want to get from this is an

explanation on how and why we as humans fall in love. As well as how these feelings get

composed forming the emotion.

Before the search I had some understanding to why humans fall in love . We love because we

feel a form of attraction towards something or someone, theyre natural instincts . How do I
know this is because I felt that way before, when I would see or come in contact with the person.

I felt nervous, with butterflies in my stomach. My heart would ache, I just feel attracted to them,

but there is more than just instincts and feelings. Some of the things I assume I will learn from

this research is the scientific explanation of what goes on in the brain and body that makes them

feel these types of emotion. But also , I would want to know how can we cope with them , move

on. I would guard against bias in my search by being careful when looking for evidence.

Searching for my research project was a very difficult task to complete. It took more

understanding than the actual knowledge . I started of with trying to find answer to the simplest

form by asking, why do humans fall in love. I found many interesting sites that help me better

understand the this whole concept I have expressed upon. Starting with the first one I found

helpful "For You, Valentine: Top 10 Reasons We Fall in Love.". What this source taught me was

the aspects on why we fall in love. Some of the aspects are that we want to expand beyond

ourselves, meaning open up and not just be all about ourselves. As well as , it increases the

abilities and effectiveness of a person. Which helps us to be more expressive , show more

emotions be happier . From that I went on in search and found The Science of Love, which

taught me that there are three main neurotransmitters that are involved which causes a human to

fall in love. Its not just a natural thing that happens it's also psychological. The main

transmitters are Adrenaline, Dopamine, Serotonin. , these cause a chemical activity triggering the

emotion we call LOVE. As they spark a trigger in the brain , sending signals all over your body.

This lead to the search of why we cope with emotions, in the site titled "Why Humans Bother

with Emotions." From this I learned that the emotion we have developed as part of the adapting

to life. Each emotion helps us to cope with a different environmental situation. In the site it says

mind software each time we experience something we update in order to deal with the
situation. When we love someone we are adapting to in life, helping us to get through it.

Another source I found helpful was , "11 Reasons Why We Fall in Love." I learned that people

tend to fall in love because of certain attributes and general attractions they develop. Some of

them are similarities , meaning having things in common with the other person makes you like

them. Another thing is Propinquity meaning you are very familiar and you know the person well

enough. Desirable characteristics is another thing that lead to a person falling in love , so like

physical appearance and personality. According to a documentary video , made by Helen Fisher,

Ph.D: called Why people fall in love I learned that when you fall in love , it drives the

dopamine system and that affects the testorone system in a natural way . Causing the person to

fall in love with you and be attracted to you in a sexual way. There are many systems ( all

biological ) that are triggered by the dopamine after the effect in testosterone, that one uses as an

after math for falling in love. This lead to the search and evaluation of the source "These Are the

7 Types of Love." , here i learned that human love because they fall into a category depending on

their relationship with people. Their actions leads them to a certain type of love , those love are

Eros which is a relationship that turns into passionate love. You become passionate about it and

it's something you won't give up on. There is Philia; a friendship type of love. Storage , a familia

love that's only expressed through the parents and the children. Agape , where one feels love

towards anything and anyone ( very open ). Ludus , where one is uncommitted to the whole

concept of love. There is pragma , where its practical involving long interest in the relationship .

Not but not least Philautia , which is self love ( only loving yourself and no one else ). These are

all the characteristics that one can fall into , no matter what a human still falls in love because it's

common and it's an emotion one experiences. According to "The Psychology Behind Love and

Romance." a source i found relatively useful helped me to understand that when we feel these
emotions we cope with it because it helps us in many ways to increase our energy levels . It helps

us to put ourselves together, in ways that it narrows down our mental focus and gives us positive

feelings. Those positive feelings function similar as Amphetamine , as it states in the source

making us alert, excited, and wanting to bond. Its the powerful moment when we meet another

person and feel energized and are immediately aware of our heart pounding.. I went in search

to find what happens when in love in ScienceDaily. I learned that when one fall in love here

is a chemical reaction that is triggered. Which causes as it states This internal elixir of love is

responsible for making our cheeks flush, our palms sweat and our hearts race." that's how we

know we entered a specific stage. It also says MRI scans indicate that love lights up the

pleasure center of the brain. When we fall in love, blood flow increases in this area, which is the

same part of the brain implicated in obsessive-compulsive behaviors. I also has a major role ,

that we may not have been aware of.

In my overall experience with my research I learned the reasons why humans fall in love , it's

not just a natural occurrence . Its has to do with a biological and psychological factor of a

person, the ability of adaptation in life. There are specific main reason why a human falls in love,

we as humans enjoy the aspects that it allows for one to expand themselves ( be more open, and

not just be all about yourself). IT increases our abilities and effectiveness , making us more

expressive towards things and allows us to show more emotions as humans. Even if we dont

notices these changes , we enjoy them because it has a positive effect on us. Besides that, there is

a psychological and biological reason. We don't see it , but there is a chemical reaction that

occurs when we come in contact with someone we see attractive to the eye. There are three main

transmitters involved with falling in love. Adrenaline which increase our rate of the blood

circulation , our breathing and the metabolism of a person. Dopamine , which is a

neurotransmitter that sends signal to our nerve cells in the brain and body. As well as Serotonin ,

which regulates happiness and mood of a person. When combined they trigger what we now as

emotions , they work together as a single mechanism. Without one it doesn't function properly

and would be no effect . Another reason why we fall in love and which I found interesting is that,

LOVE is an adaptation to life. IT helps us to cope with certain situation , and helps us to get

through them. Love is more of a tool than an emotion one feels, without it we wouldn;t function

properly, it's something necessary a human needs. Even if it's not love for a certain person but

love is essential to our daily lives. However , personal standards leads to one falling in love.

When you have expectation and they are meet , you feel comfortable satisfied with it and you

tend to follow through it because it's what you desire and you want it.

From all this that I have researched and learned , I have gained so much information that I

myself was not aware or even knew was involved when a person falls in love. However, I still

have many questions that I still want to know more of. If person falls in love due to a

psychological and biological factors , is there a reverse mechanism that occurs making people

hate? If there is love , there is obviously hate . Can Hate endure from a person falling in love .

What role does visual perspective have in a person that falls in love. Does the difference in age

affect the way a person feels or how fast they can fall in love ? Who tends to fall in love faster ,

males or females ?
