LO1 Understand the importance of business processes in delivering outcomes based upon business
goals and objectives (to be presented as a 5 minute video clip presentation in the competition; but to
be written individually in the assignment; also copy the video clip in a CD and attach to the individual
assignment) See guidelines for video clip presentation below.
TASK 1.1 evaluate the interrelationship between the different processes and functions of the
organization
- Present the business Vision, Mission, Goals, Objectives. Explain what the business wants to
contribute to society.
- Present the business Core Values. Explain its organizational culture. What type of culture do
they have according to Deal & Kennedys and Charles Handys types of culture.
- Present the business organizational structure. Explain what type of structure they have tall or
flat? Explain the decision making structure the business should have centralized or
decentralized?
- Explain the core or main processes of the business.
- Evaluate and discuss the interrelationship between the business Vision, Mission, Goals,
Objectives, organizational culture, organizational structure and core processes.
TASK 1.2 justify the methodology to be used to map processes to the organisations goals and objectives
- Choose the most applicable method of process mapping to use for the processes in the
Operations Department (high level, low level or swim lane) and justify or give the reasons why it
is the most applicable method.
- Draw the process map of the Operations Department. Use the method of your choice.
TASK 1.3 evaluate the output of the process and the quality gateways
LO2 Be able to develop plans for own area of responsibility to implement operational plans (to be
presented as a group in powerpoint slides in the competition- 15 minute presentation and print the
slides and attach to the assignment)
TASK 2.1 design plans which promote goals and objectives for own area of responsibility; TASK 2.2 write
objectives, which are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-based to align people and other
resources in an effective and efficient way; TASK 2.3 implement appropriate systems to achieve
objectives in the most efficient way, on time, to budget and meeting organisational standards of quality

- Write at least 5 SMART objectives aligned with the objectives of the business.
- Tactics should include action plan about product or service improvement
- Include at least one project that the business will do
- Discuss the systems (that is, policies and procedures) that you will implement to ensure that
your plan will push through. (That is, how are you going to ensure that the plan is being
implemented successfully)
- For your project, you should prepare or draw a network diagram (critical path analysis). You
should first present in table form the activities in your project, as well as the preceeding
activities and the duration of the activity.
- You should identify the critical path.
TASK 2.4 carry out work activities meeting the operational plan through effective monitoring and control
- Explain how you will monitor the implementation of the activities/ action plan. You may set-up a
monitoring system, for example, conducting of regular meeting (weekly, monthly), continuous
follow-up with the personnel responsible, monitoring of output indicators etc.
- For your project, prepare a Gantt Chart as the monitoring tool
