LIBRARIAN, PROJECT MANAGER
June 5, 2017
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing today to express my interest in the Assistant Director of Digital Strategies position recently
advertised on the ALA Joblist site. The moment I read the job description, I knew that I would be an ideal
candidate, bringing a unique skill set and professional background to your library and institution.
As a librarian, I have followed a somewhat unconventional career path, working in library systems and
administration for more than twelve years, and focusing much of my professional development attention
on broadening my experience in the fields of Project Management, Customer Service, and Staff
Development. I am a proven leader and communicator, currently responsible for coordinating nearly
2000 library staff from a Public Library Consortium of 51 independent libraries as we collaborate to
reach our shared strategic goals.
In reading this job listing, I was especially intrigued by the postings emphasis on Project Management, as
this is a particular strength of mine. I am a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) as well was
a degreed Librarian, and have extensive experience managing technology projects in a wide range of
scopes. Most of my recent projects have centered on library interface and Web design, including
usability and accessibility. Each of these projects has required that I collaborate with a diverse pool of
stakeholders, plan and supervise the execution of complex interrelated tasks, and provide
comprehensive, data-rich reports to our directors.
Not only do I work as a Project Manager, I also teach workshops, webinars, and online courses about
Project Management for Library professionals, and have authored a chapter on Project Management for
a forthcoming book on becoming a library consultant. I have a passion for communicating what I know,
and am dedicated to bringing valuable continuing education opportunities to everyone within the library
profession.
In addition, I am also experienced in many aspects of strategic planning, business analysis, staff
education, and technology assessment. I am an excellent public speaker and an active member of many
professional organizations, representing my organization proudly throughout the field of librarianship.
I am confident that my particular brand of creative, practical problem solving and exceptional
communication skills will provide the exact fit you are looking for to fill this position. I look forward to
speaking with you more about it!
Yours Sincerely,
Emily Clasper
