This revision instructions describes the maintenance and revision of the fastacting
earthing switch ELKEB3.

3.1 Safety hints

You are only allowed to execute the operations listed under "Revision" if you have
Warning read the notices (especially the safety hints) contained in the beginning sections
of the document Operating Instructions SF6Gas Insulated Switchgear ELK3"
and you pass the stated requirements. Otherwise, the manufacturer will reject any
liabilities for damages which result from improper operations.
Gas compartments
During overhaul work, gas compartments must be opened and entered. For this, the
Operating Instructions SF6Gas Insulated Switchgear ELK3", chapter Working on
gas compartments and partition insulators" and the document 1HC0028459 Manual
Handling Sulphur Hexafluoride SF6" have to be executed.
Before reassembling the affected components, the regulations in the Operating In
structions SF6Gas Insulated Switchgear ELK3", chapter Working on gas compart
ments and partition insulators" and the document 1HC0028459 Manual Handling Sul
phur Hexafluoride SF6" have to be followed. With improper treatment, reliable operation
of the installation is not assured.

3.3 Checklist for trouble shooting

If an error occurs during operation, the following outlined procedures should be fol
lowed. It was emphasized that as little labor as possible is required.
The error and repair instructions describe the symptoms caused by errors, the possible
causes of errors and how one can proceed most effectively.
Opening the housing without safety measurements is life threatening.

Danger
In the following table the possible causes for potential problems with the fastacting

All needed apparatus for the dismounting/mounting of a whole fastacting earthing
switch ELKEB3 and the earthing fixed contact are described in the pertaining manuals,
where the earthing switch is fitted in.
This handcrank is also used in this manual.

3.4.5 Loctite
Screws are usually secured and sealed using Loctite in the socket. Whenever Loctite
is mandatory during reassembly it is mentioned in the corresponding figure. The follow
ing Loctite has to be used:

3.5 Preparation of the Revision Tools and Materials

Prior to start the revision of the fastacting earthing switch ELKEB3, the necessary se
curity measures including requisite processes of putting out of operation (described
in section 3.6) must be adhered to.
Following preparations must be performed before starting the revision:
Prepare the tools at your workplace according to Fig.2
Prepare apparatus case according to 3.4.3
Prepare the replacement parts according to section 3.4.4, Fig.4
Prepare the cleaning materials
Prepare the adhesive (Loctite)

To ensure safe working, a stable working position at the side of the fastacting
Caution earthing switch ELKEB3 is required.
3.6 Taking the FastActing Earthing Switch ELKEB3 out of Service

Before any work is carried out, the pertaining components the fastacting earthing
switch ELKEB3 is mounted on must be isolated on both ends, i.e. separated from the
high voltage system and earthed.
The scheduled sequence of measures necessary for this work is dependent on the pe
culiarities of the respective installation and requires special instructions.
Procedure:
Putting out of operation of the GISinstallation section, which contains the built in
fastacting earthing switch ELKEB3, adhering to all security measurements (see
chapter Maintenance, Inspection and Overhaul" in Operating Instructions SF6
Gas Insulated Switchgear ELK3)
The fastacting earthing switch ELKEB3 should be in the "O" (open) switch posi
tion
Unplug all external cable connections of the fastacting earthing switch ELKEB3
and fastacting earthing switch operating mechanism ELKDB3, adhering to all se
curity measurements (see chapter Maintenance, Inspection and Overhaul" in Op
erating Instructions SF6Gas Insulated Switchgear ELK3)
In accordance with the operating Instructions SF6Gas Insulated Switchgear
ELK3, chapter Working on gas compartments and partition insulators" and the
document 1HC0028459 Manual Handling Sulphur Hexafluoride SF6", remove
gas (evacuate) to overhaul the earthing switch ELKEM3 and ventilate with air.

Before the process of changing parts of the fastacting earthing switch ELKEB3 could
be started, the fastacting earthing switch ELKEB3 has to be removed from the pertain
ing component (described in document 1HC0037774 Revision Instructions ELKDB3").

Connect cable shoe of insulated electrode for novoltage indicator/PDmeasure
ment with screen.
Look for a tighten connection.
Caution
Draw in screen, both washers have to be inside screen

The following positions of screen have to be used:
S Non insulated version: second slot (see Fig.22)
S Insulated version: first slot (see Fig.22)
The length of screens are different for both versions!

4.5 Changing of Auxiliary Switch and Heating Element

Before the changing could be started, the fastacting earthing switch ELKEB3 has to be
switched with the handcrank in position C" (Closed)

Loosen screws 6xM6 and remove cover
Remove screws 4xM6 of connection plate
The dismounting/remounting of auxiliary switch is described in sections 4.5.1 and 4.5.2.

Measure the distance between flange and contact end.
The following measures have to be observed (by using a depth gauge):
S Non insulated version: L = 323.5 mm
S Insulated version: L = 383.5 mm
If the position is not as indicated, next steps have to be done now.
