Carl Phillip Stamitz

Born on May 8th, 1745 in Mannheim Germany


His father was the founder of the Mannheim school and a violinist as well as a
composer (Mannheim school- a group of 18th century composer who were
distinguished by their instrumental music)
Studied with his older brother Anton Stamitz in Paris who was a violinist and a
composer
Stamitz was noted a violin and viola virtuoso
Toured England and The Hague as a virtuousic violinist after 1777 when he left
his brother. (Hague outside of England, under the ruling of the Netherlands)
Performed with then 12 year old Beethoven on a stage in England
Influenced the styles of Beethoven and Mozart
In 1794, he became the conductor of the orchestra in Jena. (Jena, East Germany)
Composed various symphonies, concerti, trios, Sonatas and quartets
Despite his many performances and compositions, he lived in poverty.
Died in Jena, Germany in 1801.
