Pick 5 - VTFT June 2, 2017 Advice for Future VTFT Students
Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow can be summarized by one word adventure. It is a
terrific exploration into the world of teaching if that is what you may wish to pursue. However, it is also a learning experience no matter what you choose to take this course for. Some ideas I personally had going into this course were: Learning psychology about kids how they learn and perceive things Spending time with adolescents of my age group that had similar interests as me, as well as kids that I would soon adore Exploring if my dream of being a teacher was meant to be or if it should be behind FBI Behavioral Analyst See kids in a more structural setting compared to babysitting or other settings To enjoy a class in a high school setting that actually teaches me real life applications. The fact is I accomplished ALL these expectations and more. I pushed beyond my limits and stood in front of two different panels of judges for two different competitions and actually exceled in the competitions. We went on many observations and got to interact with each age group to determine what level of education we would like to intern for. If you like field trips and visiting numerous schools other than your own you are in for a treat, we go to colleges for symposium, numerous school for the observations, and even through my internship I went to the planetarium at another school. It is a terrific but rigorous work load. Make sure you stay organized and support your self throughout the year. Every big thing you do, reflect on your experience as soon as possible because you never want to get behind and forget important details. During class you will create a notebook this notebook is a binder that Mrs. F organizes and creates for you basically. She will provide you with materials and assignments to fill this and keep it organized and up to date. Pay attention and listen to instructions and your binder will stay well done. Until interning starts you will need this every day! She will work with you and also give open notebook assessments, however, she will not pity you if you forget it. Although, it might create funny jokes it will still not help you she will not feel sorry for you if your dog eats your homework, or ninjas steal it. Remember your badge every class period after you receive it. Think you need it? Bring it. Think you do not need it? You do, so just bring it. Have no clue? Guess what? Just bring your badge. Put it somewhere you will remember, a place that will ensure it will be brought every internship/B-day. I promise this will not only please Mrs. F, but make your life a million times easier. I know if you are taking Advanced Placement classes how hard it will become, but I promise you will make it. If you love kids prepared to still be annoyed and tested. This is a school setting not a typical relaxed place where you might typically love each other. However, if you truly evaluate yourself and choose a good subject and grade level, I promise you will become attached. I had 23 students and I ended up spending 55 dollars to give them each a goodie bag. My cooperating teacher, Mrs. J., got a basket with teaching and organizing materials. You will be required to give a card to the teacher but the reward given back of saying goodbye on a happier notw is so much better.
