My name is Ma. Kathleen Joy G. Mandanas, I am 17 years old studying at studying at St. Dominic
College of Asia a first year student as a medical Technologist. When was elementary I am a
friendly person I used to have a lot of friends when I was in my 5th to 6th grade. I love to hang out
with my friends and I talk to them every day and I talk to them every day and used to support
them every time I am with them. Until the time came on 6 th I used to trust my friends and later
they bashed me, they talk a lot of things behind my back. Thats when I decided after my
elementary I will change not just for me but also for my friends. When I am in high school days in
my 1st year I am not that talkative in our school. It change my way how to encounter kinds of
people. I change by not trusting anyone else and how they talk about my back. In my 1st year of
high school I also learn on how you will talk with you classmates how can you still join into the
group even if you dont know them and you like them. In my high school days I dont trust person
easily, they really to win my trust and in order to win my trust I need to examine them I a very
long time. I just have my best friend when I was in 3rd year high school, when I was in 3rd year
high school even my best friend talks about my back. And for me I didnt treat her as a best friend.
I learned that you n really dont trust anyone easily, because I hate trusting the wrong people. I
dont talk behind their backs and you dont have anything you do you just need also them because
that is your friend. In my 3rd year high school maybe that is the worst and that is also the sign
why I really need to change myself. I refuse hanging out with my friends and I just choose to be
with myself. Entering college was a bit challenging because I grew in our school by the same
people. I met a lot of people and everywhere you go you will encounter people that is really
talking behind your back even you are closed with them. I learned and I decided to change myself
I changed myself because I want to lessen my enemies, I change to be a better and understanding
person and I realize that it is not good by bullying others, even though they did something wrong
I learned that you really have to accept a lot of imperfections and flaws because God made them
and nobody is perfect. All of us have imperfections and flaws when I was high school I adjust to
my surrounding in my 2nd year I become a stronger person that really didnt help my friends and
to the people that surrounds me. And now I become as a better person I than before. Because I
decided to change a lot because in order to survive you really need to be kind and understanding
to others. My high school life is like a roller coaster sometimes you go up then you go around. I
choose life changing as my personal recount because I really changed myself for a better e and I
think it is a good idea because I am having a few friends that is true and doesnt talk behind my
back. They say that you really need not to think of others but think for yourself but think for
yourself because they will only say that kind of things and theyll get over it. So here I am, I passed
through different kind of people but still I am standing and strong and living myself on how I want
to live my life. I may not be perfect but at least I am real and I am honest to myself not just to
myself but also to the people that surrounds me. I am imperfectly imperfect I commit mistakes
because I believe that all of us commit mistakes but they learn and they change for a better.
Movie Analysis: The Grave of the Fireflies
1. What is the historical context of the movie? When is it based?
The historical context was on Sept. 21 1945 and the fire-bombing in Japan. It is
based during the World War II, how people starved to death and how they lived after the
war.

2. Describe the culture, beliefs, traditions, and the way of life of the people? How do you
think it would be different during war and peace?
Their cultures was still the same and also their beliefs same the way the life now
in Japan. Their traditions was to take care of their sisters, the day before firebombing the
military troupes will notify their countrymen by making an alarm they need to be on the
shelter immediately. Before firebombing they buried their food so that after the war they
still have a food to eat and they will not starve because the relief goods may not be
enough to the community. It has a big different because during the war their lifestyle was
really tough and their time outside is limited and also the food they experience crisis,
unlike peace they are safe and they have a normal life, without hesitations and the foods
were enough for them, and their family was complete.

3. 3 identify the underlying meaning of the following train, fireflies, child soldiers, gumdrops,
howling wind, fire, rains, war, and destruction.
Train is the only transportation that is available in that time. The train is the only
ride to travel the city. Because the private vehicles were limited and that rails were not
destroyed unlike the other roads. Fireflies, setsuko loves to catch fireflies when they
decided to move in the cave the fireflies become their light in the cave/Shelter. And it
also signifies how they mother need to die early. They buried the fireflies and still
continue their life. Child Soldiers, Seita must also be a child soldier because his father has
a position in the military. Each of their son must be in the military. Gumdrops is the only
food they eat when their foods was gone. And when setsuko is starving to death and the
can is where Setsukos ash was located when she died. Howling wind is when he/Setsuko
is almost near to die her sister was there to get her. And that is when something might
happen. Fire, every bombs and fire the burned the houses and that is the time when the
war starts when they start to burn fire. Rain after those fires they will be rains in order to
stop the war and to take it easy. War, World War II was presented in the film on how they
live and how they survive the crisis and the damages that they will bring until they die.
Destruction it has a lot of destruction in that country and need to start new life because
of the damages that has been done.

4. Identify the health risks of the war: to earth, to human, to life army, why nuclear warfare
considered the end of mankind?
In the movie the health risks first they will starve to death and their wombs they dont
have enough reliefs and medical needs. The malnutrition may occur and the big issue and
may cause the death of every children. The nuclear warfare maybe considered to end the
mankind because of its effect that can affect more than a year, a decade and it has a lot
of effects in their surroundings. This bomb has a huge effect and they can destroy in a
shorter time. And it has a long time effect that may affect our health.

5. What are the implications of the movies to you as a medical health professional, how do
you understand/accept death as a concept or affected in the course of life?
This movie may relate in our course in our medical course, because in war we are the
one responsible to them and we need to treat them. I understand that we a medical
courses need to be open in that situation that will encounter that kind of situation and
need to be ready for the time and will do our best to come the injured and sick person.
