Nassau Port Relocation, Bahamas

C oastal Systems International, Inc. prepared an


Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the
Government of the Bahamas addressing the
proposed relocation of cargo shipping activities from downtown
Nassau, New Providence Island to the southwest of the island in
synergy with the economic revitalization of the downtown area.

Through collaboration with Governmental and private sector


officials and regional planners, Coastal Systems determined
seven (7) potential alternative locations for a modernized,
efficient cargo shipping facility and evaluated each of the
alternatives for economic, technical, and environmental
feasibility. Our scope of work included literature review,
detailed terrestrial and marine environmental assessments, The cargo port relocation project was a pivotal
component of the EDAW plan for the redevelopment of
coastal engineering evaluation (wind and wave conditions, downtown Nassau.
storm surge modeling, and flushing analysis), socio-economic
evaluation, port design, stakeholder consultation, and detailed
mitigation planning.

The final EIA document was presented to numerous


stakeholders and Coastal Systems participated in subsequent
discussions with the Government of the Bahamas regarding the
corporate structure and financing of the new port venture.

Comprehensive marine and terrestrial resource surveys


were completed to support preparation of the project
Environmental Impact Assessment.
