To assist the recommender in representing you as accurately as possible in the letter, please read and respond
to the statements and questions below. The care and thought you give in addressing these prompts may
reiterate what the recommender already knows about you or may help them discover something previously
unobserved. In any event, take nothing for granted.
1. Explain the qualities that you feel you possess which might easily go unnoticed by others.
I believe I am hard-working and consistent. I always try to bring my best to the table and stay on top of things.
Investing a lot of effort into a subject matter, Ive found, is the best way to get something done in a timely and
effective manner. I could see how that could get looked over at times.
2. Complete the following statement as clearly and directly as you can: I am especially proud of the
following achievement.
I am especially proud of having the opportunity to work in various congressional campaigns, as I feel its
expanded my political awareness and influenced my career choice.
3. Mention any factors that have come up during your high school career which you feel have put you at
a disadvantage.
I had a pretty rough summer, dealing with some serious events that occurred when I was in Pakistan. I also
struggled with a really bad nausea problem through much of the year, which impacted my ability to focus and
stay on track.
4. Do you feel your present grades are a fair representation of your academic ability? If not, discuss.
I think my present grades are a fair representation of my academic ability. I usually put in hours of studying
and preparation for each class, so Im grateful to get that A grade at the end of the semester.
5. What goals have you set for yourself and what are you presently doing to achieve them?
Ive set a goal of maintaining all As and Bs, and in order to achieve this, I have a set studying schedule. Its
also been a priority of mine to maintain the Debate Club, Model UN, and Muslim Student Association at
Athens. For this to occur, Ive had to put aside a lot of time to focus on these activities and really work on
advertising and fundraising.
6. What activities have you pursued and to what extend? Mention any offices you have held and awards
won. Tell what you gained from this experience.
Ive pursued the Debate Club, Model UN, and Muslim Student Association at Athens for three years now. Ive
been a regular and active member in all three. I was Vice President of Debate Club (2016-2017) and am
currently President. Debate Club taught me crucial advertising skills as well as quick-wit, an understanding of
the two sides to a topic, and the ability to stand up to a leadership role when needed most. I served on Model
UNs Underclassmen Advisory Board (2016-2017) and am President as of current. Model UNs taught me to
walk in another countrys perspective, important public speaking and negotiating skills, as well as great friend
base. For MSA, Ive been President since I was elected last year (2016-2018). Its always been nice to have a
safe space for Muslims at Athens to meet, and its introduced me to a close-knit group. Ive also learned how
to organize a team for an interscholastic tournament from my time in the Athens MSA.
7. In what community activities have you participated?
Ive volunteered somewhat with NHS, but have been more active from a political perspective. Ive been a
Finance Intern for Rawan Latif for State Representative, a volunteer for Anil Kumar for Congress, and a
Policy Intern for Hayley Stevens for Congress. The duties and responsibilities associated with these positions
are highlighted in my resume.
8. Explain your personal contribution to the high school community.
Athens usually has a Charity Week, and Ive always actively supported the foundations they decide to support.
This past year, I was involved in collecting money for the Joan Rose Foundation and advertising.
9. What are your hobbies?
I really love travelling, architecture, history, documentaries, public speaking, politics, and staying active in my
local community.
10. Describe any independent study or special programs/projects in which you have engaged (science,
drama, music serious extra work in a subject.)
Although its not an explicit independent study, Ive always enjoyed blogging and documenting architecture
that I witness from travelling or simple online research.
11. Describe any work experience you have had - paid or unpaid. Describe your responsibilities, dates of
employment, average hours per week, etc.
-
12. Describe your summer experiences and what you gained from them:
a. After freshman year: I travelled to London. It really was a great experience and I learned a lot
about British history, architecture, culture, and got close with my family. Being an avid fan of
British customs, architecture, and history, it was great seeing landmarks such as the Tower of
London, the inside of Parliament, Downtown Abbey, and Hever Castle.
b. After sophomore year: I went to visit Pakistan. It was really eye-opening and I really started to
connect with my native culture, improved my Urdu language skills, and travelled across the
country. We went from bustling urban centers to beautiful and sparsely populated mountain
regions. I developed an admiration for the country, yet simultaneously learned that being a
female in Pakistan can be limiting at times.
c. After junior year: I plan on interning for Hayley Stevens for Congress and gaining valuable policy
research skills from doing so. Were also going to Cuba, which will be an amazing experience.
We have a rich but shaky past with Cuba, and until recently it seemed unlikely for commercial
cruise liners to enter Cuban territory. I think itll be a great learning experience and definitely
enjoyable.
13. Who are two Athens teachers to whom your counselor might go for further reference?
Mrs. Hooper, Mr. Desantis, Mrs. Sysme
14. Where will you apply/have you applied to college?
Wayne State University, Cornell University, University of Michigan Ann Arbor
15. What is your intended major?
Business Administration or Global Supply Management with a minor in Public Relations. I then hope to pursue
Business Law.
16. How did you become interested in this major?
Ive always been interested in the economy and the concept or running a corporation or business. Ive also
been active in Model UN and Debate Club which have really pulled me away from medical and towards a more
interactive major.
17. What are your intended career plans?
I hope to be an analyst or business lawyer.
