ORIGINS OF NATIONAL SORRY DAY

The day was announced in the Victorian


parliament.

National Sorry Day was first


commemorated on May the 26th 1998,
Tuesday.

The policy created six decades worth of


what was called the "stolen generation",
children whom lost their culture and
family.

Offical acts of reconciliation did not


finish with 'The Apology'. The next year
Australia signed the UN declaration on
the rights of indigenous peoples
What do they mean?

Reconciliation: the act of reconciling or


the state of being reconciled.

To reconcile: to bring into agreement or


harmony.

Declaration: the act of declaring.

Generation: the entire body of individuals


born and living at about the same time
How did National Sorry Day Affect
Australia?

National Sorry Day was a


step towards accepting
Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander Peoples and
admitting what our past
generations have done.
To remove a great stain from the nations soul.
