Introduction To Engineering

What is engineering?

In the present world engineers play a key role in the

development of the world. Engineers are required to move the world
in a advanced technology.

Engineering is divided into several branches. Such as mechanical

engineering, electrical engineering, petroleum engineering, etc.

Engineering means the application of science in a way bengitable to

mankind. It can be anything which is useful to the society. While
scientist perform tests and experiments and invents theories,
engineers apply these theories to real life problems and find solution
to for a problem.

Engineering Design:-

Engineering design process is a practical and scientific knowledge

to solve a problem by using methodical process. We should follow a
series of steps when we are trying to solve the problem.

For every project prepared by a engineer a design is to be

prepared to make the project succesfull. Without a proper planning
and design nothing can be possible.

Engineering is concerned with the creation of systems, devices and

processes useful to the society. The process by which these goals are
achieved is engineering design.

Design of a Air Craft:-

The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur invented aeroplane for the
first time i 1903
Aircraft are designed according to many factors such as customer
and manufacturer demand, safety protocols and physical and
economic constraints.
The key parts of an aircraft are generally divided into three categories:

The structure comprises the main load-bearing elements and associated

equipment.
The propulsion system (if it is powered) comprises the power source and
associated equipment, as described above.
The avionics comprise the control, navigation and communication
systems, usually electrical in nature.

Parts of aeroplane:-

1. Fuselage
2. Wings
3. Empenege or tail
4. Power Plant
5. Lnding Gear or Under carriage

New Airfoil Concepts:-Airfoil design has improved dramatically

in the past 40 years, from the transonic "peaky" sections used on aircraft in
the 60's and 70's to the more aggressive supercritical sections used on today's
aircraft. The figure below illustrates some of the rather different airfoil
concepts used over the past several decades.

Continuing progress in airfoil design is likely in the next few years, due in
part to advances in viscous computational capabilities. One example of an
emerging area in airfoil design is the constructive use of separation. The
examples below show the divergent trailing edge section developed for the
MD-11 and a cross-section of the Aerobie, a flying ring toy that uses this
unusual section to enhance the ring's stability.
