Liferay Digital Enterprise: At the heart of Liferay DXP is Liferay
Digital Enterprise, the next evolution of our core portal technology.

Liferay DXPs Modular Core
Liferay DXPs modular core is one of the key new
features in the platform, with benefits that include:
Standards Based Customization: Less reliance on
underlying app server technology makes it easier to
create applications and extensions that now follow an
OSGI based approach.
Incremental Release Cycles: New features and
bug fixes can be released on an as-needed basis,
eliminating the need to wait for major version releases.
Reliable Deployment: Deploying modules is now
independent of underlying app server technology,
leading to fewer deployment issues and fewer
server restarts.
Easier Development: Modules are simple to
develop as they tend to be smaller and more concise
than legacy portlet plugins.
Dynamic Dependency Resolution: Modules have
built-in dependency resolution, which makes
it easier to determine what dependencies the
application needs to run and minimizes severe
consequences from conflicts during deployment.
Developer Tooling: Liferay provides a development product
based on Eclipse called Liferay Developer Studio that includes
a complete development/test environment for building
modules and customizations.
Liferay Workspace: A Gradle- or Maven-based, highly structured
environment for modular development, Liferay Workspace aids
in the building and management of Liferay projects. It is very
easy to import Liferay Workspace projects into any IDE with
built-in Gradle or Maven support, which eliminates the need to
only use Eclipse for development.
Blade CLI: Liferay development projects can be completely
controlled from the command-line using Blade CLI. Blade CLI
can perform several development tasks such as creating
new projects, installing and managing Liferay Servers,
and creating Liferay Workspaces.
Lexicon: Liferay DXP users now have access to a set of
guidelines and components that allow developers to create
visually stunning applications with minimal effort. Lexicon is
based on Bootstrap and is designed to be extensible.
UI Frameworks Supported: Liferay AlloyUI, Metal.js, Twitter
Bootstrap, JQuery, GWT, ReactJS, AngularJS, Lodash, Senna.js,
Liferay Lexicon, Vaadin and more.

Theming and Templating Supported: FreeMarker, Velocity
Integration: Liferay supports most standards based ESB/MOM
solutions and can integrate with standard ESB protocols such
as SOAP, JSON, REST and JMS. Liferay contains not only local APIs
for its services, but also remote APIs via SOAP, JSON and REST.
Liferays Service Builder allows for defining a model and will
automatically build local and remote services.
Liferay Marketplace: Developers can sell, share and
download themes, integration plugins and entire applications
built on Liferay DXP in Liferay Marketplace. These apps can be
quickly deployed into a Liferay DXP implementation via the
Liferay Management console.
Configuration and Deployment
Security/Identity Management: Liferay DXP uses
industry standard, government-grade encryption
technologies, including advanced algorithms such as AES,
3-DES and RSA. Liferay also offers a single sign on (SSO) API
that integrates with CAS, LDAP (e.g., Active Directory), NTLM,
CA SiteMinder, Oracle Access Manager, Novell Identity Manager,
OpenSSO, SAML and more. Additionally, Liferay DXP ships
with robust user management and security features including
password policies, user reminder settings and complete login
security procedures.
Performance: Liferay has been performance tested and
benchmarked to be scalable in high availability deployments.

Multi-Tenancy: Liferay DXP gives enterprises the ability to organize
users by business-defined categories such as departments,
geographies or offices, as well as by cross-departmental teams
and workgroups. Each organization and site can inherit or
define its own permissions and administer user, group and role
management for the various applications it chooses to include.
Clustering/High Availability: With the capability to support a
broad range of deployment sizes, Liferay DXP can be scaled to
support multiple virtual hosts and load balancers, app server
clustering and database clustering.
Cloud Support: On-premise and hosted cloud configurations
are also supported by Liferay with multiple hosting and
managed hosting providers available today including AWS
EC2, Azure and more.
Staging: Blogs, bookmarks, calendars, documents and media,
Dynamic Data Lists, forms, message boards, mobile device families,
polls, web content, wikis and site pages can be staged either
locally or remotely with Liferay. This allows content administrators
to build up content ahead of time outside of the view of the
site users and then publish everything at once when the
content is ready.
Kaleo: An out-of-the-box workflow engine called Kaleo makes
it easy to define business processes that allow any content
created in Liferay DXP to be included in an approval process
that models the business requirements. Liferay DXP also
includes a visual workflow designer and workflow-enabled
forms that make it easy to capture and define business
processes with the organization.
Upgrade Tool: Liferay DXP now includes a completely
revamped Upgrade Tool that greatly simplifies the upgrade
process from previous versions of Liferay. The tool runs
stand-alone from Liferay and lets system administrators
restart failed upgrades, reducing the amount of time involved in
troubleshooting upgrades.
Elasticsearch: Elasticsearch is the default search engine in
Liferay DXP to provide better search monitoring, tuning and
scaling. Elasticsearch now requires a separate installation
from Liferay in order for the system to receive support.
