Copyright A copyright grants legal rights
to anything you create that
expresses or embodies an
idea. It gives you exclusive
rights to copy, distribute,
reproduce, display, and license
the work.
Patents Patents are granted for new,
useful inventions, and they will
give you the right to prevent
others from making, using, or
selling your invention.
Trademark Trademarks are the items that
differentiate your brand from
others in your industry. They
must be distinctive and used in
commerce to sell or promote a
product or service.
Trade Secrets A trade secret is a piece of
confidential business
information that gives you an
advantage over your
competitors
Books, music, paintings,
sculpture and films, computer
programs, databases,
advertisements, maps and
technical drawings.
Utility patents, for tangible
inventions, such as machines,
devices, and composite
materials, as well as new and
useful processes.
Design patents, for the
ornamental designs on
manufactured products.
Words, symbols, names,
colors, or sounds that identify
where your goods and services
come from.
Soda formulas, customer lists,
survey results and computer
algorithms.

The first intellectual property of law that I would apply in order to protect my product would be
patterning first. Especially when I find similar product exist or have concern over intellectual property
violation. There are three types of patent, utility patent, design patent and plant patent. The two most
common patent used are utility and design patent. I would apply utility and design patern in order
secure my product/service.
