1.1.1. Personnel
The installation, commissioning and dismantling of the device should be made only by trained and authorized
personnel. During installation, it is necessary to pay attention to the safety instructions which is defined by the
user.
The equipment is designed exclusively for the intended purpose specified in the manual. Any other use and / or misuse of the
device can lead to unpredictable risks including death and causes the loss of all the claims against the manufacturer.

Safety Instructions
!!Danger of Life from Electric Current!! Direct contact to the parts of the device will cause to electric shock. In
case of damage to the insulation, the device must be switched off immediately and the damaged area to energize.
This is to ensure that the power supply is off when all other work is going on this device.
If the objects (e.g. hairpins, needles or coins) or liquids fall into the device, which can cause to life threatening
electrical short-circuits and leads to fire. The user must make sure that all above mentioned objects specially
made of metal and/ or liquid things not fall in to the device intentionally or unintentionally.
The operation and use of the device done by instructed and authorized personnel.
The equipment exclusively operated with the operating voltage indicated in the manual.
When installing the cable connections, the user pay attention to the safety regulation. Always pay attention to the
connection to the protective earth ground! Attention to be paid in connection with other devices is to be of the
same earth potential (same heavy current/voltage side).
1.1.9. Ventilation
The equipment must be installed in such a way that good ventilation is ensured. On the device is not allowed to put any
articles such as newspapers.
The device is not allowed to operate in close vicinity of electrical conductive liquids and moist areas. On the
device or nearby area of device is not allow to place any liquid things.
The operating temperature of the device is defined in the specifications. The device must not be placed near the things which
produce heat such as to blowers, heaters, furnaces or other devices.

Safety Instructions
Never open the housing. Touching the internal parts lead to risk of electric shock. It is not permitted to make any
changes in the device.
1.1.13. Cleaning
Do not use any volatile solvents such as alcohol, diluents, gasoline etc. for the cleaning of the housing. Only use
dry, clean cloth.
If any unusual smoke or smell occurs, immediately switch off of the device and remove it from the main power
supply! Contact your dealer or the manufacturer.
1.1.15. Fuses
The replacement of the fuses in the device is only permitted by trained and authorized technical personnel.
The change of the fuses only allowed when the device is switched off and removes from main power supply.
Otherwise there is a risk of electric shocks. The security functions and the safety values are mentioned in the man-
ual. In the case of using the other fuse specified in the manual expire the guarantee for this equipment.

General Description
2. General Description
The VL-66203 system (DVI and USB CAT Extender) consists of a transmitter and a receiver module
and is used to extend maximum distance of USB and DVI link.
9
General Description
Cable
Cable Attenuation pro 100m Resolution
length
The maximum distance of the transmission depends on the quality of cables and used resolu-
tion.
The maximum USB path distance is 40 m. VL-66203 is designated to be used in KVM sys-
tems, this implies USB 1.1 Low-Bandwidth (1,5 Mbit/s). VL-66203 can be used with devices
which use USB 1.1 Full-Bandwidth (12 Mbit/s), in this case a CAT7 cable (for example Draka
Super Screen UC900 CAT7 AWG 27) is recommended for the USB path extension.

4.1 Connection
Abbreviation 3: Connection
DVI signals are transmitted through two CAT cables. TMDS (Transition-Minimized Differential
Signaling) path transfers high-speed video signals (RGB and pixel clock), DDC (Display Data
Channel) path transfers DVI DDC signals and additional signals like a Hot Plug Detection. For
establishing proper DVI link between signal source and sink both CAT cables must be con-
nected.
DIL switch on the front panel of the receiver sets level of equalization. The switch on the front
panel of the transmitter is used to set de-emphasis. In most cases transmitter de-emphasis
should be set to -3 dB and line equalization should be done with receiver setting.

Table below contains example settings for 1920 x 1200 resolution at 60 Hz vertical refresh rate and
eight bits pro colour channel. Those parameters should correspond to other kinds of cables as long as
attenuation characteristics and lengths are comparable.
4.2 Mounting
The system offers the possibility of din rail mounting. For this purpose the brackets, depend-
ing on the installation position, attached to the underside of each unit to lock on the rail. An
earth terminal is located on the side of each module. RJ-45 sockets can be used with sleeve
housings, for example VS-08-T-RJ45/IP 20 1688638 from Phoenix Contact.
