What is the MBA-RM (with multiple specializations) programme at IIHMRU, School of
Rural Management?
The School of Rural management established in 2012 seeks to produce and disseminate knowledge
for holistic understanding of issues and challenges of development. An abiding faith in humanism,
commitment to cosmopolitanism, respect for diversity of life and empathy with poor constitute
core values of SRM. The unique position of the School within IIHMRU, a premier health
management research university of the country enables a context for a rigorous inter disciplinary
exploration of the different dimensions of human well being.
The primary objective is to facilitate integrative learning in the deepest sense of the term, so that
graduates are able to walk into professional roles with ease, and play a vital role both at both the
operational and strategic level in their jobs. The specializations (in areas of high demand) aim to
improve the marketability and reach of a degree programme in management and development
practice to enable the students the ability to hit the ground running in the professional world that
demands specialized inputs. To achieve this, the course outline of the IIHMR MBA (RM) strikes
a balance between three things:
Critical thinking, active engagement with multiple stakeholders, and lateral thinking that
allow students to think practically and strategically.
Foundational managerial skills associated with development praxis, ideally for all sectors
(government, civil society sector, and private sector); and more specifically, those skills
relevant for the specializations that the students choose.
Strong fieldwork and organizational skills based on off-campus learning experiences so
that once they graduate, students can hit the ground running.
In addition to this, three areas remain critical to all that the students learn:
The MBA-RM brochure is available with our Application kit. You can also download it from our

the greater common good of countless people negotiating Indias rural-urban continuum. One of
the core objectives of the pedagogy is to inculcate values of active and responsible citizenship and
humanist empathy for rural communities.
