Course description: Using a Personalized Learning model this course is designed to prepare students to
meet the challenges of 21st Century higher education and careers. We will read and write about
interesting literature, discuss what we have read and written, improve our communication skills, and

Required Text: Collections 12 Additional readings/texts will be provided as needed.

Materials needed: Notebook (binder with divider/pockets), writing utensils, loose notebook paper, 1
ream printer paper (to be kept where student will do his/her printing)
Note: For the best results, please use blue/black, other dark colors of pens, or pencil. No graded work
will be accepted in the following colors: red, pink, orange.

Office Hours: Power Hour, during lunch by appointment, 5th Period Planning (students with passes).

Parent Contact Policy: Students whose grades or classroom demeanor are unacceptable
(failing/disruptive, respectively) will receive phone calls home. Parents/guardians are encouraged to
ask students about their class work and contact the instructor for questions. Due to privacy concerns,
we cannot discuss a student's grades or behavior through email, but please leave contact information
and best calling time by email to initiate contact. Students may feel free to use any means of
communication to contact me at any reasonable time.

Reasonable time: includes office hours, after school, evenings until 9:00 pm, weekends 9:00 am 9:00
pm. Please know that although I do answer my cell phone and check for messages, I do not routinely
check my school e-mail evenings and weekends.
