Dear Biology Parent,

Hello, I am the new 12:1:1 Biology teacher, Shanley Richards. I am very excited to
have accepted this position and to begin teaching your child.

First a little about myself. I am a graduate of SUNY Brockport with a degree in

Biology and Education and certifications in Biology and Special Education. I have
experience teaching general education students as well as students with multiple and severe
disabilities. I was first placed at Brockport high school for biology and then moved on to
Australia to teach students with special needs. I actually just returned from Australia when
this position opened up, and it seems like the perfect fit for me.

It would be greatly appreciated it you could look over the syllabus with your child
as a few things have changed from the previous teacher. I have created some new policies
that I hope will help the students to succeed in this course. One of the biggest new policies
is the grading of all future labs. Labs are all connected to the content the students need to
have a firm understanding of the labs in order to succeed in this course. Because of this, all
students are expected to make corrections on every lab. Lab grades will be entered into
infinite campus as an M for missing, a T for turned in or a 100 if the student has made
all necessary corrections. I would like to encourage you to check infinite campus weekly
(https://infinitecampus.penfield.edu/campus/portal/penfield.jsp) and I will do my best to
keep it as up to date as my grading is.
