Cllr.

Samus Morris persistence pays off for the residents of Castlewood in Nenagh

Last Thursday I met with 3 senior Tuath staff members to go through the progress of the repair and
upgrade works to the houses there. Some of the repairs were legacy issues from the original build
when Nenagh Town Council commissioned the houses but because of the poor uptake of the social
housing scheme Nenagh Town council signed a five year contract with Tuath housing association in
June 2016 to manage the scheme. There have been continuous complaints of problems normally
associated with snag lists but a small amount of repairs were left unattended leaving the residents
frustrated and angry. I have been dealing with those issues but with the closure of Nenagh Town
Council and the amalgamation of Tipperary county council it was hard to pin anyone down to sort
out the issues . I got my chance in June 2016 when the Tuaths 5 year contract ran out and as
Chairman of the Tipperary county council Housing S P C I used my muscle to delay the signing of the
new contract until the works were carried out. This concentrated minds and Tipperary County
Council and Tuath have carried out tens of thousands of euros of works to the houses including some
upgrading works so much so that I was happy to sign off Tuaths new five year contract at last
Mondays county council meeting . I have also established a great working relationship going forward
with the management of Tuath which I look forward to maintaining for the residents for the next 5
years.

Yours sincerely Cllr. Samie Morris 16/06/17 0872859125
