About this unit
This unit focuses primarily on the meaning and
signicance of image selec;on, placement and
design in texts. Using the theme Every Picture
Tells a Story!, the students explore the concepts
of salience, framing and the placement of
elements in an image to deepen their
understanding and knowledge of text - image
rela;ons in picture books.

Rich Assessment Task
Using the knowledge and skills gained throughout the
unit the students will complete a power point
presenta;on, poster or booklet, that demonstrates
their understanding of how the choices made by
illustrators signicantly impacts the viewers
interpreta;on and understanding of images.

The presenta;on must include their understanding of
framing an image, placements of elements in an image
and salience on the composi;on of images. This task is
to be completed individually.
