THE IMPLICATIONS OF RECOVERY IN ASCARIASIS: Ascariasis is a parasitic disease

caused by the cylindrical worm Ascaris lumbricoides (A. lumbricoides), which is found both in
humans and animals, with its main forms -adult and egg. Clinical signs vary depending on the
evolutionary cycle of the parasite, its location within the host and the awareness of the host.
Therefore, the period of larval migration reveals the fugitive broncho - alveolar syndrome
(Loffler), with fever, cough, lung opacities, blood hypereosinophilia and Charcot crystals in
sputum. During the intestinal period, the symptomatology given by adult worms is marked by
gastrointestinal manifestations such as abdominal pain, transit disorders, diarrhea, nausea and
vomiting. In addition, there might appear some psychological disturbances like irritability and
sleep disturbances, commonly found in children. The treatment includes anthelmintic medication
like Mebendazole (VERMOX), the recommended dose in adults being of 200 mg / day, taken in
two doses, morning and evening, for three days, or Albendazole (ZENTEL) tablets of 200 mg.
This medication is not recommended for pregnant women. The checking of affected patients
should occur after a period of three months. In most treated individuals both the symptoms and
the presence of eggs in the stool dissappear. Keywords: ascariasis, A. lumbricoides,
Albendazole, coprological examination.
