After reading this article and conducting additional research, answer to the followin
questions.
John Dewey, Jean Piaget, and Lev Vygotsky created some theories for the discovery learning to
establish its base. According to those people, to learn requires being active and collaborative.
What is the most important thing you discovered about discovery learning?
This method helps the students remember the facts about our subject through a process of disco
period. As the teachers we can give students some problems, and ask them to work together to f
a solution to these problems. We may do this in any classes since children love exploring things
this method will provide us effective learning environment. Also discovery learning is a great way
help SPED students learn in facilitating way.
How can you apply this method to your future classroom?
I am planning to give some tasks students or groups and have them to do some research. Then
questioning and discussion will follow discovery learning.
1. Teaching methods. What teaching methods and procedures can be used to improve
students critical thinking abilities? Creative thinking abilities?
Critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing,
applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by,
observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action.
Discovery learning, student-centered learning, inquiry based learning can be used to improve
students critical thinking abilities. Questioning and discussion sessions in class also help student
As a result most of the modern teaching methods and all student-centered learning techniques a
used to improve their critical thinking abilities.
2. Thinking. What type of thinking is emphasized in most schools? Is critical thinking
rewarded? Creative thinking? Is school success based on students ability to think critical
Creatively?
It depends on schools and teachers perspectives. Some schools and teachers reward students so
they care students critical thinking skills and encourage students to make connections betw
knowledge and real life applications.
A classroom that is opened to ask questions freely and a place that student-centered learning
occurs. Students should feel free to express their ideas in a classroom. Technology usage and an
equipment for learning must be available in a classroom. A teacher who encourage students to
research, to conduct experiment or projects is good chance for students. In my opinion if these
aspects could be collected in a classroom, that classroom is a great environment for students in
order to improve critical thinking and creative thinking/
