Finding Common Grounds
In the year of 2015 on Friday November 13 Paris, France was
bombed and over 130 people died. When their city of lights went
down, we lit our world for them. So as you can see, you can tell the
world came together as one to help a county that was in need of the
help. The topic of debate in America was the Oklahoma bombing.
When this happened, the whole community of Oklahoma State came
together for their loved ones who were lost in the disaster. So,
individuals can find common ground due to unity after tragedy,
equality and forgiveness.
People can find common ground due to unity after tragedy and
equality. In the article of A Quilt of a County by Anna Quindlen, she
talks about how a country has came together even though we have
had terrorist do terrible things to us. In the quote it says, Today the
citizens of the United States have come together once more because
of armed conflict and the enemy attacks. Terrorism has led to
devastation and unity (Quindlen 3). This shows the listeners that our
nation can still come together even if we have/had differences. We
come together as a community, as one. This demonstrates that
Quindlen thinks that we come together when we work together as a
nation. The evidence suggests that since we may have our differences
we can still work together to help each other out. Additionally, in the
story, Making the Future Better, Together by Eboo Patel, she
addressed to the group how our government has helped us
throughout the years. In the quote, it states, The government of the
United States...gives no bigotry, no sanction, to personation, no
assistance, requires only that they who lived under its protection
should demean themselves as good citizens (Patel 3). In this quote
the listeners see that the government has helped us to protect us
when we need it the most. What is understood here is that we have a
lot of help from everyone even the government is protecting us. As a
result, the quotes that I found both show us unity after tragedy and
equality. This first quote showed us that our enemy attacked. That
showed us unity after tragedy because we still came together as one.
The second quote showed us equality because it says that the
government protects us and that means, everyone.
Many people can find common ground due to forgiveness. In the
story, A Raisin in the Sun, Mama and Ruth are talking about how
there is no colored people in Clybourne Park. In the passage it says,
Ruth: Clybourne park?
Mama: Aint no colored people living in Clybourne park
Mama:Well, I guess theres gonna be some now (Hansberry 530).
In this example it shows forgiveness because instead of Ruth arguing
with Mama, Ruth agrees and just goes with what she says. This
matters because the family could have caused problems and chaos
because they dont want to move to a white neighborhood. Besides
that, in the story, Ruth's boyfriend is telling her wife she should move
up to Nigeria. In the story it says, Nigeria, throne. I will show you our
mountains and our stares; and give you cool drinks from grounds
(Hansberry 566). This shows forgiveness because Ruth decides not to
go and her boyfriend respects her answer and he got over it. This
matters because he could of kept begging her to go to Nigeria, but she
just decided not to go and her boyfriend forgave her when she said
sorry. As a result, the story, A Raisin in the Sun, the story shows a
lot of forgiveness by going into another neighborhood with no colored
people and staying with a man who asked you to move to another
country and declined.
One should acknowledge that if we all work together we can all
find common ground. A lot of things such as; unity after tragedy,
equality and forgiveness can have an effect on us and help us all work
together as a community. It is clear that all of my evidence helps you
get to know that now we can help each other find common ground.
People need to look at the world and try to find something good in
them in order for our community, city, world, or union to be a better
place.
