During my 20 years as an earnest seeker of the truths of Astrology, Palmistry and numerology, I have not met a single soul who has painted a rosy picture of the Saturn. While making a general remarks, astrologers fail to consider the benefic side of the planet dubiously rendering a soul of high potency into force all dark and spiritless. Saturn is a best friend and when one heeds his advice, one is benefitted. But those who pay no heed to his advice, he uses his whip since Saturn isa “Stren School Master” of Oliver Goldsmith. He wants reformations, changes and good effects, whatever process he may have to pass. In the sign Libra, the Saturn does not allow a hair’s breadth. He will whip a man. if he is making slight mistake even since Saturn is after perfection. Inthe sign Capricorn, which he owns, there are gains of patience and perseverance. Saturn causes delays to perfect, to make things appear as pure Gold in their. intrinsic nature, Saturn is unlike a school Master who can play truant to his teaching work and he is also like that school master who ean make students to stay extra hours in their Schools to make them best prepared for their examinations. In the Ascendant Libra and Taurus where Saturn is a Yogdkara, Saturn lifts a native to dizzy heights. The present book is written to shed light on all the aspects of Saturn, At present there is no book on SATURN devoted exclusively to this planet, although market is flooded with innumerable books, some of them are a real treasure of infor- mation. This has been one of the factors which impeled me to take this venture. Moreover I wanted to enlighten my readers with all theaspects of Saturn so that those who are deprived of their precious money in wasting on un-necessary ‘Daans” or Charities or for “Pujas” in order to propritiate Saturn, the god of gloom, according to certain astrologers. An astrologer is consulted to make the person free from troubles, but some- times a few unscrupulous astrologers for whom there is no other way to earn big sums of money play on the creduality of innocent people. When consulted they tell people-“‘oh”! you are under Sadesati’’ or adverse effects of Saturn. They prescribe “Pujas" or methods of propitiations involving sums so often touching thousands. Naturally people were not under the bad effects of Saturn but now after consulting the astrolonger they have come under the bad effects, since they are being deprived of their hard earned money. My daughter who has experienced prophetic dreams (whose horoscope has been appended inside) has been another inspiration to take this hard task of dealing with the “MIGHTY SATURN”. Madan Lal Sharma, 2.9.76, TRIBUNECHAPTER | SATURN’S ROLE IN ASTROLOGY Saturn has to carry out the duty of Lord “SHIVA” or Pudra. Saturn is a cold icy planet so it is said “Icy hands are laid on one” means one is dead. Saturn is son of SUN as per Hindus and son of Uranus according to Westerners and is father of Gulika and Mandi. It is also called “Yama”, chief governor of Longevity. Saturn is son of Sun but the qualities of son and father are diametrically opposite: Darkness Versus light. It never agrees with Moon. So it rules the sign opposite tu Sun, Aquarius. Other house allotted to Saturn is Capricorn. Exalted in Libra where Sun is debilitated. Saturn is debilitated in Arles where Sun is exalted. Leo owned by Sun and Cancer by Moon are houses of fall for Saturn. Saturn is 1418 million Kilometers away from the Sun and its diamete ts about 1,20,000 Kilometers. Saturn is 700 times in volume as-compared to earth. But in weight it is less than 100 times than earth. Saturn takes nearly 29} years to go round the Sun. Hence on an average it passes through a sign for a period of about 2} years. MYTHULOGY It is laid down in ancient books that Indrajit son of Ravana was about to be born. Ravana tried that all planets remain in 11th house because planets in this house produce good results. But Saturn stretched its legs to 12th house, because Saturn in 12th House is very bad. But the Devas, realising the consequences, appealed to Saturn not to stretchhis legs in 12th house but remainin the 11th. Saturn encouraged the Devas that he alone could sanction what they wanted with least efforts. After the birth, to his distress Ravana found that Saturn had stretched its legs to 12th house. Ravana in fash cut off leg of Saturn. So Saturn is called “Lame” and SLOW. TRAITS Saturn when posited in Gemini, Virgo, Taurus and Libra is termed to be in his friendly Rasis but in other Rasis he istermed to be inenemy’s camp. Constellations ruled by Saturn are Pushyami, Anuradha and Uttrabhadra. Saturn is friendly to Venus and Mercury, neutral to Jupiter and enemy to Sun, Moon and Mars. Saturn gets directional strength and digbala in Libra. It is barren, binding, cold, earthy and masucline. It is a planet of nervousness and secrets. Saturn is denoted by symbolb. It was called sater or Saturn in olden days and it signifies evil, darkness, secrecy, loss and misfortune. Its nature is cold, dry, phlegmatic, melanchalic, earthy and masculine, when Saturn is well placed or aspected, the person is grave, profound, prudent, cautious and of excellent organising and executive ability. But when he is weak or afflicted, the native is apt to be bigoted, acquisit- ive, irritable, discontented and complaining. He governs the teeth, bones, spleen, knees, right ear and sense of hearing. rules Bricklaying, pottery, masonry, plumbing and other laborious or uncongenial employment, it denotes aged persons, thin, nervous, dark seclusive. Also farmers, miners, coal, junk or produce dealers. property owners. It rules land, Property, mines, lead and dealings in real estate. Dry, Satur- day, metal -lead, colour, black. Saturn rules the sign Capri- corn and Aquarius. Saturn is generally termed as Malefic. Kalidasa is of the opinion that in strong Rajyoga Saturn in own dasa and Venus sub period will make one beg alms in the streets even if a person is king. Generally Saturn shows a malefic nature for all Ascendants except Libra and Taurus where it acts as Vogkarka, Lord of Kendra and Trine. The evil influences 2are curbed when Saturn is posited in own or in its exaltation house or in Jupiter's house. This rule holds good when in transit also. CHARACTERISTICS Bad: The main malefic characteristics of this planet in respect of Karkas or otherwise can be summed up as produc- ing people of thin built, bony, pale or of dark complexion, deep set eyes. piercing eyes with profuse growth of hair on the eye brows, makes one a little deaf. The limbs will be long and thin, will cause troubles, Diseases, distress, humiliation, misery, misunderstanding, destruction of happiness through women. Servitude and dependence on others. Unright conduct, Shisir, Rithu (winter season) February and March, excessive anger, friendship with the wicked, low caste maid- servants, indigestion, hard-heartedness, stubborness, impri- sonment, obstructions, demoralisation, injuries, risks, gambl- ing, architectural skill and Western direction. Good: The benefic characteristics of Saturn can be summarised when the Saturn is not aspected critically and is not debilitated etc, and occupying the Zenith (10th house) at birth makes the men carefull of their bodies, strong and pro- found in opinion, austere, singular in their modes of thinking. laborious, imperious, hostile, to crimes, avaricious, parsimo- nious, accumulators of wealth, violent and envious. Without the help of Saturn one cannot become a high order thinker. Offers mental, moral courage, foresight, discipline, endurance power to undergo all sorts ‘of privations, third eye sight, scientists, inventors discoverers, explorers. martyrs. philoso- phers, religious leaders, social reformers are due to the grace of this planet. From the above it is found that Saturn is not only male- fic but benche too. So it is wrong to say that Saturn is always a malefic planet. Generally a person is allergic to the name of Saturn when he or she is told by, an astrologer that the influence of Saturn is present in their 3life. Why so? Because all are not acquainted well with the benefic qualities of this mighty planet. No doubt that Saturn is a planet of darkness, but all minerals under the control of Saturn like lead, uranium, kerosene, petrol, coal etc. are found under the dark region of earth. This is Saturnian touch. Saturn controls hidden treasures, Likewise Saturn enables the person after passing through odds and hard struggles to see a new light and by dint of that light one makes discoveries of many kinds. So now we can class the mighty planet Saturn into two categories namely Dignified and Debilitated. Dignified:- Prudent, contemplative, cautious, responsible, Precise, persistent, persevering, industrious, _ provident, patient, economical, reserved, serious, resolute, considerate, mathematical, temperate, chaste, executive. Debilitated:- Skeptical, melancholic, deceitful, incompet- ent, exacting, avaricious: perverse, indifferent, Laborious, impotent, repining, acquisitive, secretive, suspicious, fearful, slow, callous, lewd, pessimistic, unreliable. According to Kalamitra, Saturn proves to be beneficial when it is in its own sign or when it occupies the signs of Jupiter or when it is exalted. But one peculiarity has to be carefully remembered. If Saturn by Lordship, is a benefic then it should not be strong by being in own house, exalted or vargottama to produce favourable results during Venus sub-period. It is considered favourable for people born in Taurus and Libra and is evil for those born in Gemini and Virgo signs. The ruling constellation of Saturn should also be studied by Lordship, occupation etc. Saturn ruling the constellations Pushya, Anuradha and Uttrabhadra will modify- the results of the planets in any of the three nakshatras so much that, what Saturn to offer to the native by its lordship and occupation, is given by the planet in its stars. So keep- ing in view the above dictum Saturn’s benefic or malefic position is to be ascertained and accordingly results are derived. 4Saturn-Friend of mankind Saturn is onc of the greatest friends of mankind. If Saturn were not involved in the schemes of things life would not have acquired that sophisticated touch which is now evident. Saturn represents resurrection. If glorifies it transmutes, it enables what is gross. It is not satisfied unless all ore is turned into finest steel. Saturn does the work of culturing. It turns gross into subtle and flnzr substance. Saturn perfects those traits in man which show weakness. It represents emotions on all levels. It is rejuvenation. When Saturn is in Aries, it indulges in the perfection of man’s rash nature into solid and firm sophisticat- ed nature. Saturn in Taurus is faced with gross matter in its totality unless the whole of the resurrection, regenaration is fully tackled much will remain in gross in the nature of man. Saturn in Gemini perfects thoughts, or action or both. In Cancer Saturn perfects man’s wavering nature into a fixed life of dedication to psychic nature or other arts. In Leo Saturn has to perfect man’s noble nature. If he is given to thoughts of royal life, he is taught to curb his interest for luxuries and try to become most humanitarian and noble creature on earth. Asin Virgo, it perfect’s man’s analytical nature, mastery over languages and grammar. In Libra Saturn is a perfect fask-master, a stern disciplin- arian, not a hair’s length can escape his attention. He has a perfect life in all its walks. Saturn in Scorpio perfects the nature of a native and overcome his baser passions, hatered, Jealousies, envies etc. In Sagittarius, it gives per- fection in YOGA, hunting, war and adventures. In Capricorn, gives perfection of philosophy, overcoming the vices of affluence by teaching the lessons of contentment and peace. In Aquarius Saturn overcomes the weakness of isolation and indifferences. It makes one fit to mix freely with others. In Pisces it overcome too much of sentimentalism, shyness and makes virtuous and noble in the true sense of the term. Saturn is not malefic as if is generally thought to be. It is a friend of those who want perfection in life. Saints naturally 3see the placement of Saturn in their birth charts. It represents love of perfection and self discipline at the cost of luxurious life. Poverty is self-invited because it will help to overcome pride, arrogance and _ baser instincts of life. Saturn in Aries has its debilitation. Here it is a warning signal because in Taurus there is too much of gross nature and since it can not stop its work of resurrection and regeneration a man with Saturn in Taurus should be taught that if he fails to cooperate with it he will be heading for all sorts of catastrophies and mental troubles. So the Saturn represents the struggle against evil. Saturn vis-a-vis other planets Saturn:- Saturn creat struggle against evil. It creats perfection ina man. Saturn's special work in nature is to crystallize, to make stable, so a harmonious aspect to Mercury would tend to make the mind more material, to make it one- pointed and more stable, so that the ego can get better control of it and turn it to detailed study. Our relations to Saturn are purely material and if he touches our conscious- ness, it is only to materialize it. Sum:- offers real love towards all ie universal love. Devotion to God will be sincere and steady. Inspiration and intution. Active, authority, power, fame, self acquisition. It makes one a traveller, industrious, maximum labour but minimum wages, strong will power, frank and out-spoken and cautious, tire-less workers. The bossing over tendency, over ambitiousness, Good-will and esteem of people. Govt. favour, brilliance, dignity, energy, loyalty and it produces magnanimity. Moon:- Moon represents imperfection, because of its limitation. Dual nature of man has its root here in the Moon's forces. When the coujuction of Sun and Moon takes place, it denotes the union of individual and personal man, the higher and lower self. The opposition of two luminaries, denote the personality illuminated by the Sun, 6or spirit, and throwing its borrowed light upon the earth, or our physicalciousness. Mercury:- Mercury represents body, soul and spirit. It is spirit and matter with added faculty of mind. It represents mind or rather the inner understanding and is that connecting link that runs through the consciousness of man, all the way from matter to the highest spirit. It is the link between spirit and matter. Mars:- Mars gives energy entering into the composition of the material and emotional bodies but not the mental. Its forces work with material conditions. It energises that side of nature which, at the present time, obscures the spiritual. It is not directly connected with mind but with sensations. Its work with man is to spur him to action, and finally knowledge comes as result of his activities. It has explosive and blustering energy. A dashing planet. Planet of war, pride and honour. Venus:- Venus gives beauty, sweetness and love, and which, while it does not directly work with the mentality of man, yet it modifies the type of mind we express. If Venus and Mercury are in conjuction the result will be beauti- ful and harmonious expression either in speaking or writing, rhythmical and poetical. Makes a native artist. It also works with the spiritual side of man and deals entirely with the apprehension of beauty by the human soul. Jupiter:- Jupiter is expansive in nature and his work is to unfold, to throw from the centre outward. It gives broad, comprehensive and benevolent mind. It applies to the details of work, dealing in glittering generalities. It deals with etheric than physical brain, for it holds within it the higher powers of the soul to a far greater degree than can be manifested through the physical brain. Uranus:- It is combined with the Mars and Moon qualities. It denotes that while spirit is still working through material conditions, it is completely controlled by mind. It 7shows intellectual aspect of soul and working of higher and lower mind-as one. It affects the supermind in man. It is the Great synthesizer, gather up the various aspects of intelligence symbolised by all the planets and this planet produccs individualised and complete man. Neptune:- It indicates spirit in a man and people with Breater spiritual consciousness can come directly under its very subtle and intangible influence. Negatively its manifest mainly as psychic disturbances, which actions through the emotional nature, produce strange physical disorders difficult to diagnose and yet more difficult to overcome. Its influence also.produces genius of an exceptional nature. Rahu and Ketu:- Hindus call them ‘“Chayagrahas” or shadowy planets. Westerners have given them name of Dragon’s Head and Dragon's Tail, also caput and Cauda, And Assending Node (North) and Decending Node (South) respectively. These denote dissatisfaction, avaracious mind. adulterous. Low caste, fond of travelling, may like to go to jungles, mountain, stay outside, Falsehood, Harsh speech and temperament. But mostly Rahu is known as Benefic and Ketu as malefic. What Saturn Can do? Saturn’s period follows the Jubilant and expansive planet, Jupiter's period. During Jupiter's period, one will have many activities and when period starts, one will try to consolidate his enterprises and concentrate on a few alone. But all the plans will move slow. There can be such a delay that one becomes frustrated. So one has to overcome it by patiently working hard, and persevering. No doubt one’s spirit will be dampened and it will reduce one’s enthusiasm. But one will come to know of the defects which throw obstacles; one realises how one has wasted time and money. So you become firm, concentrate, and steadily act so that you avoid difficulties and you come out successful ultimately. What you should do? Practise economy, contemplete, plan and then take adecision. Accordingly you proceed. Avoid labour trouble and if it arises then contact labour personally, avoid enmity of elders and superiors. Do not be lazy. Do not get dejected if things are not moving fast as per your plan. Also bear in mind that you MUST make few attempts to come out successful. If Saturn is benefic, do things on Saturdays or on the days when Moon is in Pushyami, Anuradha, Uttrabhadra, or Saturn sign rises in the East. You should take advice of persons born in Capricorn or Aquarius lagnas or on Saturdays or in any Saturn’s star. You can contact such people if you want some influence to push through your matter. Be calm. Do not announce your intentions to one and all. Be discreet. Concentrate on a very few problems and pro- ceed. Do not get depressed and be diffident. You are born in any of the following Saturn conjuct- ions (i) Saturn-Mercury (ii) Saturn-Venus (iii) Saturn-Mars (iv) Saturn-Jupiter. Saturnians having Saturn in moveable sign in birth chart are all tall and lean, hairs on whole body, attractive appearance, 9pleasing manners and elegant disposition, fleshy lips and broad cheeks with prominent temples. They are generally intelligent with good memory, _irritiable, aptitude for literature religious and are philosophical. Generally sympathetic. In childhood they are lazy, dull and indolent, sometimes coward and too timid. Will become popular and respected. But when Saturu is ill-placed the above results are found to the contrary. Having studied the position of Saturn in a broader way, the readers can follow conveniently the subsequent chapters.CHAPTER 2 SATURN AND ASPECTS Satuin should be analysed in Rasis or signs and Houses. One should not hastily conclude the matters signified, unless aspects, conjunctions are also considered thoroughly. Theis only the correct position and results can be found. As per Hindu Astroiogy Saturn aspects 3rd, 7th, and 10th houses from the position where Saturn is posited in a nativity. The aspects of Saturn to the houses are detrimental and Evil und give rise to extra troubles and bring so many unpleasant experiences. Good qualities of these houses are greatly marred or damaged. Saturn in 4th, 5th or 9th houses becomes considerably weak and is therefore harmful to the prospects for the houses over which he has lorships. Brihat Parashar has stated 10th aspect as “Kendra Aspec:” of a planet of vital importance. He states “A planet situated 10th from any House, Sign or planet influences in good or bad ways to houses etc. depending on the nature of aspecting planet.” For example Saturn is posited in second house and Jupiter in Sth house. As per standard rule Saturn will not aspect Jupiter but as per Kendra influence and aspect, the aspect of planet has great value and effects. Jupiter is the only planet being a benefic which can drain out much of his evils. Venus does only 20% of Jupiter can do. Mercury can not do any thing as he becomes absorbed with Saturn. To make the life happy, tolerable and free from worries Jupiter should have Sth or 9th house aspects over Saturn or at least conjunction or opposition will reduce the effects of mighty Saturn. A commonly said point that Saturn is strong by position iwhereas Jupiter by aspect is quite correct. if Jupiter and Mars aspect Saturn powerfully, the evils of Saturn can be warded off. Western Aspects :- In addition to Hindu aspects, western aspects are also very much effective. This has been found from actual experience. Some of the important aspects like trine, conjunction, Parallel, sextile etc. as detailed in the follo- wing table are to be considered. In applying the Western aspect, one should carefully note the “Applying or Separating” effect of the planets with Saturn. The orbs are definitely to be taken into consideration. The orbs allowed to the various planets are;- Applying Separating. Sun 12° 17° Moon 8° 12° Other planets e 8° Before going into details of the aspects, it is of utmost importance to study the term ‘“‘Applying and Separating” and readers are requested to understand the same thoroughly. Applying and Separating :- When two planets are within the range of conjunction or aspect and not in exact rapt conjunc- tion the fast moving planet is placed behind the slow moving planet will move forward to conjuct or aspect the slow moving planet unless and otherwise the planet is retrograde. The conjunction or aspect comes stronger and stronger as the planet reaches nearer to each other and forms an exact conjunction or aspect. But when the fast moving planet begins to move away from the slow moving planet the effect temains but starts decreasing slowly. When the planet goes fully beyond the orb of Conjunction, the influence completely ceases. In this case the faster planet, if behind the slow moving planet it is said to be “Applying” to the latter and when the fast-moving planet moves away from the slow-moving 12planet, itis said to be “SEPARATING”. This is most important. This aspect is said to be Western aspect because it is commonly applied by them, whereas actually this aspect is borrowed by them from Hindu Astrology. The common Astrologers in India do not use it but this aspect has already been dealt in our old treatises like Phaldecepeeika, Sanketa Nidhi, Jatak Tatava, Uttarkalamrita etc. The Applying aspect in Hindu Astrology is called “ITTHASALA” and separating influence is called “EASARPHA YOGA”. Prof. B.V. Raman has rightly detailed this aspect in his Book Varshaphal and on page 63 (Eight Edition) under para 64 has written as under :— “ITHASALA :—A_ detailed explanation of this Yoga is called for. We have already given the Planetary orbs. as accepted by Tajaka writers. It will be seen that these are the very Orbs current in Western Astrology were changed by latter writers. Lilly gives the same orbs (Sun 15°, Moon 12°, Mars 8°, Mercury 7°, Jupiter 9°, Venus 7° and Saturn 9°) in his introduction to Astrology. What made Subsequent writers on astrology in the West to change the “Orbs”? into special orbs is beyond my comprehension.” He further states that “‘the only factor to be noted is that the Tajaka writers also take into consideration, the applying, full and separating nature of the aspect as formed between relatively slow and fast moving bodies”. There as Sixteen types of such yogas detailed in the above books which deal with all the aspects, which the Westerners have adopted as Aspects and we are following Westerners blindly rather to dig out our own hidden treasures. Two slokas are only given below from “Sanketa Nidhi” to prove the above statement. 13San VIII sloka 2 and 3 of Rama Dayalu’s Sanketanidhi translated by Panditabhushana V. Subrahmanya Shastri. afe fee ant: gerne water wea frat afer ot agtearae: cary Translation :- When a planet owing to its faster movement overtakes another planet of a slower gait during transit and casts a benefic aspect over it, and when both the planets are brilliants, the faster planet transfers his entire powers to the slower planet. This yoga is called Itthasala. This is nothing except a case of applying aspect between any two planets say trine and sextile according to Western principles. aaa afe aa aul rareggea teres: FAT after aeardteat war car aerate: Translation :- If a faster planet is deficient by a minute in the Rasi travelled by it with respect to that advanced by the slower planet, Itthasala yoga is fully formed. When it exceeds or falls short of this limit, the yoga will not be formed. If a faster planet is in advance of the slower one by one or more degrees the yoga yaftm (Musatipha) is formed and it will not be a benefic one. The Musaripha yoga referred to is an opposite case of Itthasala yoga concurring with the separating aspect of Western Principles. The only difference is that Hindus have used these words as Yogas and particularly apply in Tajaka System which means “A System of astrology dealing with Annual Reading” whereas Westerners have adopted it as an Aspect. Not entering into controversial issue and reverting back to our subject it is of utmost importance to check these aspects in addition to trine, sextile etc. which are tabulated on pages 16 and 17. 14In addition to the following aspects, other aspects such as 22°k, 674°, 112°$, 157$°, and 162° should be exact. The aspect of 126 degrees is of the same benign nature as trine. means a Good. All multiples of 224° are evil, namely 224° 45°, 674°, 90°, 112°, 135°, 157}° and 180°. All multiples of 18° (except 90°) and all multiples of 30° are beneficial such as 18°, 30°, 36°, 54°, 60°, 72°, 108°, 120°, 126°, 144° and 162 degree except 90° and 150°. Mutual Application:- When two planets are within the range of an aspect and one of them is in Retrograde motion, each will move towards the other. This is called Mutual application. Difference :- Now comparing Mutual application with the applying aspect it is concluded that Mutual application is ttronger than the applying aspect. Combustion:- A planet is said to lose its power completely when it is within a certain distance from the Sun, Mercury being am exception. In that condition, the planet is called “combust”, when a planet is posited in the same degree and minute of longitude as the one occupied by the Sun, then it is said to be in “RAPT CONJUNCTION” with the Sun and it is considered to be eclipsed and utterly powerless. Planets within a distance of 5 degrees from the Sun are also in combustion. If, however, they are 10 degrees apart from the Sun, then the combustion is only ordinary. When the planet is beyond 15 degrees, then there is no combustion at all. Having analysed the different details of aspects, a few aspects with Saturn are listed here-under. Consideration has been made for benefic aspect and malefic aspect which points is now clear. (i) For Saturn only there are no good aspects. Most people. become irapatient at the delays encountered, grow worried or nervous and are disappointed to the extent of depression, what the normal man desires, he terms them as evil and decides that Saturn is anevil planet. But on the other hand one forgets the benefic effects of this mighty planet as has already been detailed in the characteristics of Saturn.” Adverse aspects are not to be termed as evil because during these aspects, native becomes more capable to overcome the difficulties and obstacles and the man can safeguard his interest. I am of the view that it is better to have square and opposition aspects in a birth chart than to have no aspect. Such aspects will give us a great energy and ambition for further progress in life by overcoming obstacles and the native becomes a “‘seasoned man”. Planetary Aspects Good Aspects of Saturn:- The good aspects of Saturn tend to produce a thoughtful, sober, conservative, contemplative, and diplomatic mind. Saturn enables the native to become careful & attentive in business, increases credit, the man be- comes popular, wealthy, self-reliant, systematic, and of construc- tive attitude. He become subtle. Gives high position, power, authority, the slow progress gives more secure and lasting effects. Increase of property. buildings and other long-time projects. It tends to good, discriminative, conservative judgement in buying generally. Adverse Aspects of Saturn:- Jt is an unfortunate influence therefore make no changes, removals or journeys, ask no favour and again gives rest, avoid worry, guard the specch, do nothing of importance, one’s judgement becomes erratic. One is cauntioned to deal carefully with elders (Self experience), keep away from old buildings, safeguard against ill-health, 18one should be optimistic, cheerful. All projects and: schemes are delayed because Saturn is a planet of delays, hinderances, limitations, reversals, lack of suitable opportunities when it is under adverse aspects. Sun in Aspect to Saturn Favourable:- This aspect gives strength to a native thro- ugh its own efforts to rise in life and have general success. He is endowed with ability to concentrate, organise, coordi- nate for definite object. It makes the native sincere, conser- vative, considerate, methodical, responsible, discreet, serious, discriminative, confident and capable of sustained effort. The personality is strong and 1s not easily affected by the opinions or protests of others. The mentality is contemplative and practical authoritative and capable of organisation. If any other good aspect is there, it will give gain & success through lands, mines, investments & industrial enterprises. If moon is in good aspect, the native gains municipal and other political honours and appointments. Unfavourable:- Indicates derangements. of health, the disease will be as per signs which the Sun and Saturn occupy. Bad for business as signified by the planets. The native becomes unsympathetic, selfish, careless and skeptical. May cause death of father, disagreement and separation from him, displeasure of superiors and Govt., unfortunate marital affairs. In a woman’s horoscope it denotes delay or denial of marriage, Death of husband or marriage to a widower. Disturbed married relation, husband may be domineering. exacting, selfish and unfortunate. 19If Saturn is in watery sign, the partner is liable to be given to drinking and other vices. Moon in Aspect to Saturn Favourable:- Thoughtfull, Sober, contemplative mind, careful, prudent, attentive to business. Popularity, .espect, diplomatic, systematic, constructive and a good organiser. Subtley, tactful, & methodical, favourable for professions like public advancement, attainment of position, Successful efforts, Gain through superiors, parents and friends. Gain in business through mine, land and products as ruled by Saturn. If Jupiter is also in favourable aspect, it leads to amass a wealth, If Sun in good aspect. prominent & high position in life. Unfaxourable:- Poverty, losses, disturbed peace of mind, Earnest, ambitions but plans do not materialise, little gain but hardwork. Reverses, failure in business, delays, dis- appointments, Unfavourable circumstances. Unfortunate for marriage, if the planets are in common signs, usually marries more than once bad for speculation and other matters for which saturn is Karka or significator and sign it occupies in the Birth chart, scandal, displeasure of officers, sorrows through parents, loss of property, may cause death of mother. Ill-health, accidents, selfish, worried, doubtful. A good aspect of Jupiter, Sun, Mars or Venus will help reduce the above evil effects. Sup, Moon or Mercory afflicting Saturn at birth:- Worried mind, ill-disposed, indiscriminate, malignant, timorous, Slanderous, fond of solitude, bigoted, fond of labour, void of natural affection, treacherous in friendship and in family connection and incapable of enjoyment. Mars in aspect to Saturn Favourable:- Confident, ambitious, determined, energetic, desiours of leading and ruling, courageous, forceful, hard worker,good health & marrows, vigilance, power, position, and authority. A good military, State official, also practical Lawyer, civil or mining engineer, Survey or, construction, contractor, manufacturer, etc,. Favourable aspect for legacy from father. Unfavourable:- Mind and senses at conflict, discord, selfish, rash temprament. hasty, cruel, hard. revengeful when opposed. Troubles & disease with body parts denoted by the signs occupied by the afflicted planet, Feverish, wounds, fall, danger from enemies, reptiles and animals, Accident, reversals, enmity, scandal, discredit, loss in business. Unfortunate for parents,’separation or disputes, bad for legacies, difficulties with companies, partnership or in marriage. Liable to imprisonment. If either planet is well aspected and located by sign, much of the above evils will be reduced, but notice the house which they occupy, as they indicate trouble for the things ruled thereby Saturn Trined by Mars: Renders men reckless, over diligent, free in speech, Turoulent, boastful, austere in dealings, pitiless, contemptuous, fierce, warlike, bold, tumul- tuous, insideous, deceitful and implacable. Satura in Square or opposition to Mars : Makes men plun- derers, robbers, adulterous, turpitudinous, mischievous, treacherous, thievish, perjured, and depraved. Mercary in Aspect to Satare Favourable: Good, intelligent, methodical, sound judge- ment, studious; contemplative, Success as physician, teacher in Hygiene, tactful, diplomat, business travels, Association or business with father or brethern, prominence, If mercury is in Ist, 3rd or 9th.house it is very good for scientific or intellectual pursuits, writing, publishing or travel- ling. Will power, determination. Good, strong memory, apractical sound judgement, sensible. The native has ability for public appointments, politics, official positions of all kinds, public undertakings etc. Mercury in conjuction with Saturn if uot otherwise affilicted gives a profound and comprehensive mind, capable of achieving much in whatever direction it is turned. Unfavourable: The native has ambitions of success for 3rd, 6th & 10th houses affairs but efforts are delayed, dis- appointment, obstacles, limitations and may meet with opposi- tion and criticism and his planes and efforts remain unsuccess- ful. Difficulties in acquiring education. Memory needs development. Great Sorrow through death of brother or father or their ill health. Seperation from them due to circumstances. The subject may cause difficulty through false reports forged letters, unfriendly writings. He may become sarcast: bitter, impulsive Pessimistic, fear, lack of intiative actions, occult subjects and spiritual philosophy. If either planet be in orrule the third or Ninth house, it gives an inclination for science and occult learnings. Liability to loss and failures through fraud, deception and theft. Mercury in trine to Saturn: Here Saturn acts constructi- vely, Would make non inquisitive, loquacious, studious of law and medicine, confiderate in secrecy. Fabricator of miracles, imposter, improvident, cunning, meditative, Vigilant and tractable. Mercury in Square or opposition to Saturn: Causes men to be frivolous, vindicative, laborious, night wanderer, insidious, treacherous, pitiless, thievish, magicians. forger of writings, cheat, unsuccessful in undertakings, quickly reduced to adversity. 22Jupiter in Aspect to Saturn. Favourable; A fortunate aspect tor those affairs, occupa- tions and pursuits ruled by these planets and for things ruled by the houses and signs which they occupy, especially Jupiter. The native is intelligent. learned, overcome to obstacles, profound, philosophical or scientific, succeeds in favour of elders and men in power and authority. Power of concen- tration, arbitration, reviews and judgement. Good reputation, justice, contemplation, meditation and practical. Indicate sincerity, honour, esteems, honesty and general prosperity. Financial and executive ability, sound judgement, gain through father, friends, Journeys particularly, long, investment, religion, science, publications, societies, companies, association and political offices. Also through religious, medical or scientific institutions. If the planets are in angle or moveable signs, the native acquaints himself worthly wherever located and his work of a beneficent and public nature. Favourable for money and possessions, gain through father and legacy if 4th and 8th houses are unafflicted. If in fixed signs they give power for conducting affairs of great weight and importance. The trine and sextile aspects are better than conjunctions. Saturn in trine aspects with Jupiter: Saturn here will make the mind virtuous, respectful, well intentioned, ready to assist, judicious, frugal, magnanimous, obliging, solicitor of good, affectionate in domestic ties, mild, prudent, patient and philo- sophical. Upfavourable : Losses through litigation, trustees, bank etc. Unfortunate aspect for occupation, money and success in business, threats, troubles, pecuniary or otherwise through father, neighbours and companies. Reversal and loss of money, property and credit through mis-calculations, poor judgement and speculations, trouble with education and travel. Indecisive condifence and self will. I health, Danger of imprisonment, 23opposition, limitations, and enmity, difficulty through or on account of dishonesty. Danger through floods, earthquakes and epidemics. Jupiter afflicting saturn: Saturn makes one outrageous, incapable of learning timorous, highly superstituous, yet regardless, of religion, suspicious. Averse to children, incapable of friendship, cunning, misjudging, faithless, foolishly, wicked irascible, hypo-critical, idle and useless, without ambitions, yet regretful, morse, highly reserved, over cautious and dull. Venus in aspect to Saturn Favourable: Sympathetic, modest, chaste, sincere. If favours, success in cuurtship and marriage, steady attachment to partner and family. Faithful in Love and _ friendship. One will be thrifty and economical, accumulation of wealth, business capacity, tact, method and system. Good luck, good in respect and popularity, Gain through brothers, superiors in position by investments, associations, banking land and secure methods. Venus trines Saturn: Saturn under trine makes man averse to woman renders them fond of governing, prone to solitude, highly reserved, disregards of ranks, indifferent to beauty, envious, austere, unsociable, singular in opinion, addicted to divination and mysteries, faithful in friendship, continent, scrupulous in regard to female virtue. Saturn squares or opposes venus: Saturn makes men libi- dinous and licentious, lewdness, careless and impure in sexual intercourse. obscene, treacherous to women especially to own family. Wanton, quarrelsome, sordid, hating elegance, slan- derous, drunken, superstitions, adulterous. and impious. Unfavourable : Disappointment and trouble in courtship, marriage or partnership. Unpopular, reversals, misfortune through elders, parents or relatives. Danger through theft, jealousy, deception and sensuality. Sorrows and difficulties through the opposite sex, delayed marriage upto 28 years or 24alter, troubles through difference in age, social or pecuniary affaiis or illness. Diplomatic nature liability to business losses and through speculations, investments, land, companies bank etc. loss of account or salary. After having analysed the various aspects of planets with saturn, we now give some valuable points which should be memorised while evaluating the nature and strength of aspect. 1. When the lord of a Kendra and trine combine in a house or mutually aspect each other, both acquire great strength to do good. 2. (2) By the association or aspect of benefic planet with neutral, the neutral gain strength to do good, while the benefic retains its original power. 3. By the association or aspect of a malefic with benefic, the malefic losses some of its evil nature and benefics. 4. By.the association or aspect of two neutrals, they retain their original powers. 5. By the association of neutral with a malefic, the neutral becomes malefic and malefic remains malefic. 6. When two malefics combine or aspect each other, they become extremly malefics. 7. When two friendly planets combine. will produce good results. 8. When two inimical planets combine or aspect each other the evil is accelerated. Before concluding, we wish to details the effects of Moon when posited in Navamsa of other planet and is aspected by Saturn, 25Moon in the Navamsa Results when aspected by saturn of planet 1. Mars The native will have Quarrelsome nature. 2. Venus One will enjoy the pleasures of bed with others. 3. Mercury One will be skilled in Mechanical arts. 4. Moon The native will be devoted to his studies. 5. Sun . The person willdo cruel acts and deeds. 6. Jupiter One will be Virtuously disposed. 7. Saturn One will be irasciable. Conclusion So far we have studied the aspect in much detail and have understood that without considering the aspect we can not arrive at the right conclusion. But infact, the aspect must be First diagnosed along these lines to understand the following chapters. A ready recknor of aspect be prepared in the following serial order for applying and predicting. 1. It should be checked whether the aspect is good or adverse. vv The aspect is exact or wide orb. 3. Whether it is applying or separating ? 4. The exact degree of the aspecting and aspected planet 5. Position of the aspecting planet viz angular, succeedent. or cadent. 268. 10. 13. 4. If so. compare them and decide whether one accentuates or modefies the other. Nature of the aspectea planet, malefic or benefic. What house does the aspected planet occupy ? Is it elevated above the aspecting planet, or below it in the chart ? Are either of these plancts are in their signs of exalta- tion or debilitation ? If either of them retrograde ? Always go the shortest way through the Zodiac in the chart, either forward or go back to figure an aspect. 27CHAPTER 3 INFLUENCE OF SATURN IN ZODIACAL SIGNS AND HOUSES The effects of Ascending signs without any aspect depends upon the presence of a planet in the Ascendant and will change the characteristics of the native, which depend upon the benefic or malefic planet. The main features, temeprament etc., represented by the ascending sign may vary according to the position of the Ascendant Lord, nature of the planet strongly aspecting the significator etc. In addition to it, other factors like hereditary peculiarities, early training, environment, and geographical influences all have moulding effects on the physiognomy. As for example persons born in African countries are generally black in colour whereas reverse is the case for Western countries etc, The planet in the Ascendant also have a big share in deter- mining the appearance. Sun indicaes dignified and developed body, Moon, plumpy, medium height and Pale complexion Mars denotes, over weight. Mercury, Tall to medium height, Perceptive faculties, prominent, restless activity, Jupiter to overweight. Venus denotes graceful form and pleasing appearance. Saturn indicates underweight. Uranus, physical pecularities, unusual characteristics, add impulsive actions. Neptune denotes physical defect, pale or transparent complexion, something notable about the eyes or mouth, Saturn ascending usually makes the hair, eyes and comp- Jexion darker than otherwise indicated. If it is in adverse aspect to one of the rulers or significators. it tends to make the body shorter. 28The ruling planet at birth time has also considerable effect on the physical and mental make up of a native. We will only describe the ascending signs briefly denoted by the Saturn. Saturn governs Capricorn and Aquarius signs. Planet occupying 0° to 6°40’ good effects ure maximum, but worst when tenants 10° to 13°-20°. II-AQUARIUS Middle stature, clear complexion, tall person, large head and face rather inclined to corpulency, sad brown hair, sober, graceful. affable, courteous disposition, very proficient in art 34or science, genius, yet disposed to be conceited, practical, able, diplomatic, happy, vanquished by enemies. The Planets Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, and Moon are benefic Planets and Sun, Mars and Saturn are malefic ones. The effects of the planets can be divided broadly into Four parts : 1. The Planets which always produce Good or benefic results. 2. The planets which produce always malefic results. 3. In this part, the planets always remain Neutral. 4, The planets which give malefic and benefic results. The above four parts are detailed for the guidance of readers. 1, The most benefic houses are Trines or Trikona Ist, 5th and 9th houses, The lords of these houses give always benefic results, irrespective of the fact the planets may be malefic even like Mars, Saturn etc. In addition to the result conferred by them in the Horoscope as general, they also behave like that in their Dasa and Antar Dasa (Major period and sub period.) 2, The Malefic houses are 3rd, 6th, 8th and 11th. Lords of these houses always denote malcfic results whether they are benefic or if they are malefic, the evil results predominate for the effects as signified by house sign and planet. Such planet affects health and other matters but not the income. 413. Kendera houses 4, 7, 10th fall in this part. If the lords of these houses are benefic planets they denote malefic results and if are Malefic then they confer the results either benefic or malefic. In the former case of benefic planet, it is not obliga- tory that they always work as malefic they too can show benefic results depending on Aspect, Exaltation, own rasi or sign position etc. 4. The planets in the fourth part are those which are lords of 2nd and 12th houses. These planets are such which will give both malefic and benefic results. The planet will give the results of these houses where the other rasi or sign of their Lord is posited. ButSun and Moon, when lords of 2nd or 12th houses will give the results where they are posited. In case of Dasa of 12th house, lord and bhukti of a Yog Karka will give the effect of Raj Yoga. Now in view of the above rules, we have analysed the position of all planets for every Ascendant showing their benefic and malefic nature as per lordship of various houses. EFFECTS OF PLANET FOR EACH ASCENDANT Lagan Planet Lord of Results Houses 1. Aries Sun Sth Benefic when strong for all matters for Sth house viz boldness, success in exams, Govt. gain, Personal gain, Tespect, Good children etc. Moon 4th If strong by position, Pakash bala, strength and well aspected will give good results for 4th house and for matters for which she is Karka. It badly placed evil results. 42Mars Mercury Jupiter Venus Saturn 2. Taurus Sun Ist, 8th 3rd, 6th 9th, 12th 2nd, 7th 10th, 11th 4th First is more strong than 8th house so results of the Lagan will predominate. Yog Karka planet, over all Mars in this case will be good on the average. Bad. The stronger planet the malefic one. The weakest, more ill health, loss of conveyance and (will reduce the numbers) brothers but good for finances. If strong will give Govt. favour, teligious, good thoughts, success and gain for 9th house matters. If weak, then results are reverse. If strong then will become malefic being lord of Kendra. If it is well aspected will become more evil. If aspects are evil will give good results. It will act as malefic. But if strong, evil will be increased. But gainful for wealth. A malefic in Kendra is good, provided it is bit aspected by benefic planets, will give good results for house, property, conveyance (when it is strong). If weak and malefic aspects are there on Sun, Evil results viz, ill health, worried, enemies, loss of 43Moon Mars Mercury Jupiter Venus 3rd 7th, 12th 2nd, Sth 8th, 11th Ist, 6th Property, and conveyance worries from Govt. and officers, It is malefic but if it weak, malefic aspect, located in bad house then it will be subjected to Vipreet Raj Yoga and will bestow immense wealth, but if strong then average results. It will give the results of 7th house. Being a malefic but lord of Kendra it will give good results provided it has benefic aspects. If aspects are malefic, then will act evil for 7th house matter i.e. wife, business, Govt. etc. It will too much benefic pro- vided strong and well aspec- ted. If weak and badly aspected then failure and break in education, worried on-account of children, un- successful in prospects of 5th house matters etc, Bad effects, but being lord of 11th if strong it will give benefits. If weak will denote evil results for 11th house matters, loss of incoiae, loss to elder brother and children, disease etc. It will be malefic. When meoltrikona rasi of Venus is in 6th house, it becomes3. Gemini Saturn Sun Moon Mars Mercury Jupiter Venus 9th, 10th 3rd 2nd 6th, 11th Ist, 4th malefic. But when Venus in 6th house is weak it will give gain of money. Rajyogkarka (Lord of Trine and Kendra) will give im- mense wealth. If weak, then benefic results are small. Sun is not much benefic here and will not yield much good results. If strong gives much wealth, high and good position but if weak then loss of wealth and ill-health. Both houses are malefic. But Mars as 11th lord is good, so will give both bad and good results. Being benetic and lord of Kendras it should be malefic but since it is lagnadhipati, it will give the good and bad results if strong. But if it is aspected or conjoined with malefics then the evil results are predicted. When a benefic planet is exalted, aspected by benefic planets, then the results denoted are beneficial. But if Planet is debilitiated, in fall, detriment to rasi_ or house where Posited then evil results predominate. The aspect of such a planet also are not so good. Similarly ifa mualefic planet is week in birth chart and aspects a bhave then that aspect will not Prove so eflective, if itis strong and aspects then it will promote evil results. Technically speaking the conjunction is not an aspect but is a position. According to Hindu astrology. conjunction occurs when two planets are in the same sign, irrespective of the distance between the two planets. The orb of aspects whether they are applying or scperating are alien to Hindu astrology. This can be cleared from an example. Supplose Moon is Posited in Libra and Longitude is 0°-32’, Venus is also posited in Libra at longitude 25°-8’ and Mercury too in Libra at 16°-27' longitude Sun in Virgo at 277-28’. As such Moon and Venus have difference of 247-26’ are not in coujunction but the distance between Venus and Mercury is 8°-41’ and this forms also No conjunction within the orb range. But look at the Sun and Moon where distance is only 3°-4’ and conjunction is formed between the two. So reverting back to the definition of term conjunction it can be defined as “A term uscd to signify that two or more planets are in the same degree of longitude. When one planet is within its orb of the hody of another planet. or with the 80 |cusp of a house, it is said then to be in conjunction with that planet or cusp”. The effect of such position is Good or Bad according to the nature of the planets. According to the Western astrology we append below the conjunction of planets and their effects briefly. But when saturn becomes significator of each house, then the effects are to be analysed in detail for every houses. It is well known to the readers for what each house stand, The characteristics of Saturn have already been detailed in first chapter. But in addition the following general indications for Saturn are detailed. Benefic :-Saturn is both a destroyer and a recdeemer. For these people to whom Saturn is benefic, it indicates patience, industry, chastity and discretion. Sympathetic towards others during its period as he generally experiences enough of pain. It will Gring one to his knees and humble his nature by constant troubles, pains and‘turmoils, and develops the moral growth. Saturn denotes perfection. It shows that one will be plod- ding persevering and patiently working. Saturn is crystalling, binding and contracting planet and gives concentration during MEDITATION. One becomes self reliant as Saturn does not allow any body else to lend his assistance. It encourages realism and carefulness. The native becomes an exacting task master. Malefic:-When saturn is evil as it is commonly called, it acts as a deterrent producing limitations. Sorrows and pains. Most of the people wili be tested and tried in its period. One may have to work till.one gets fatigued. In Business there will be narrow margin of profit during sales whereas during purchase it will be costly. Due to fact that Saturn is a slow moving planet and thus causes the success slow, so it will make the native a well noted in ptaience and preservance. He will not take up any project without premeditation and deep considera- tion, become wise, faithful and reserved. There can be no loss nor misfortune through negligent or any other cause. But if saturn is also the significator of any other evil house one may lack opportunities, many sorrows, disappointments, loss after loss, poverty and it will be an uphill struggle to come out successful. Second House:- Saturn when significator of second house will give minimum wages for maximum labour, It will be an uphill struggle to. make money. Even though there may be opportunities for any thing promised, it will be denied, dissatis- faction, sometimes all things seems favourable and smooth but suddenly events change and everything go out of the gear and thus native is denied of all promised. Third House:- One will be tactful, diplomate, analytical, concentrate, will do work after proper planning and in an 92methodical manner, studious, will speak slowly, philosophical. Fourth House:- Saturn signilicator of 4th and another good house it will give good results for things indicated by 4th housc like property, successful Agriculturist, gain from property, mines and metals. But when significator of an evil house there will be troubles through property, Sorrows through elders. Unsatisfied domestic life, Inherited property due to the native will be denied. Foreign residence. Fifth House:- When it is significator of favourable house will confer gain through speculation. Long love affairs before marriage, Children, Male and Females will marry their oppo- nents older in age than them. But if it is a significator also of bad house will give disappointments in life, sorrows delays, hinderances. loss through speculation, delayed progney, weak heart, danger through animals. If saturn in watery sign, there is a danger of drowning. Sixth House:- It is in Dush-thansa house, the significator will give diseases like cold, constipation, rheumatis pains, stone in bladder, tooth ache, ear trouble as it aspects 12th house, spleén disease, injury or accident to knee cap (self experience). Labour trouble and loss through them. Opposition and enemies, low type profession. Seventh House:- When also of a beneficial house will bestow on the native a sincere wife, happy domestic life, union with elders, property, children. But if also significator of bad house, it may cause death of native himself, Quarrels with wife, busi- ness partners, loss through contracts and business, litigation, opposition, late marriage and unhappy married life. Eighth House:- If significator of a good house will give benefic results for all 8th house matters such as long life, legacy through deceased. A natural death, a comfortably fixed partner, spiritualistic experiences, interest in matters relating 93to future life. But when also a significator of unfavourable house then reverse the above results like painful death and may be unnatural. Financial difficulties, Death of partner and seperation from elders. Loss in business due to clever partner. accident, drowning can be the cause of Death. Ninth House:- [f also significator of a good house will denote studious, higher education, good scientist, Voyages, study of sciences, faithful, religious, wisdom. prudence, fortune with strangers and foreigners, wife’s relations and Voyages. Inventive, Interest in Political.economy, law, philos- phy. But if significator of also a bad house, there will be loss and trouble through strangers, foreigners etc. Danger and loss through journey, litigations, failures in attempts, mental trouble, worried and trouble through the relations of wife. Tenth House:- If also significator of good house then honours through merits, success through industrious efforts, high ambitions, Gain through elders and Govt; favour. Cautious. He can be minister, organiser, high Govt; Officer, Scientist, architect, surveyer, Administrator, Contractor. But if also significator of bad house one will have sudden rise and fall also. Obstacles, delays, hinderances, lack opportunities, miserable, financial loss and difficulties. There can be dishonour, reversals, humilation and failures. Defeat in politics. Eleventh House:- If also significator of good house it will give good and sincer friends and supporters and thereby can overcome obstacles and enemies. As it aspects 5th house birth of child may be delayed. Financial gain, promotion due to death of senior, success and gain in litigation, speculations, Many hopes are attained and fortunate actions. If Saturn is significator of an evil house one will suffer at the hands of false friends who will betray him. Danger to mother, to conveyance, death of child, loss in speculation and loss of income and money, strained relations with elder brothers and just opposite of all benefic results enume- rated above. 94Twelfth House;- Saturn also significator of another favour- able house will denote laborious work, secret services, hospital service or gain from such service, profitable investments, But if Saturn is a significator of another evil house will denote, animosities difficult to over come, heavy troubles, secret sources, limitations, loss by enemies and theft; Danger of imprisonment, disablement requiring hospitalization, occult science, fracture, disappointments, separation from family members and mental disorder. The above are the results when Saturn is a significator of each house. Now the question arises that how significator will work when posited in different houses. This aspect has been detailed in chapter titled “Saturn’s influence on different houses for Various Ascendants”. We can see that for Ascen- dent the position of Saturn has been analysed and in each house. Indirectly we can know the results so there is no need to rewrite the whole subject. But we would like to emphasis on the point that signifi- cators effects have been detailed above regadless of Aspect. The influence of aspect to each house should be considered as a qualifying factor. LLewellyn George has described the points in a very nice fashion and is required to be followed practically in life by all. He states “The above delineations of circumstances, events and conditions are given because they havea deep significance; each one points to a certain affairs through which we receive lesson, an opportunity for development, a test of our self-hood, we suffer mostly from ourselves because we have not learned how best to respond or react to planetary stimuli. The over- coming of obstacles or rising equal to and above conditions is progress. We view all things according to our state of develop- ment, we interpret and color them in confirmity to our under- standing, our character and disposition. We are constantly building our character; cach day we are moulding the future by our reactions to planetary conditions. It is the efforts to refine and improve our reactions which determines our rate of progress and attainment of happiness. Know Thy self: Wisdom puts an end to pain.” 95CHAPTER -8 SATURN & TRANSIT, PROGRFSSION & SADESATI Transit otherwise known as Gochar in Hindu Astrology is always reckoned from Moon sign at Birth which otherwise is called Chander lagan or Rasi as explained earlier. Saturn transits ina sign for 2} years has an importance, bearing in Astrology regarding predictions because this is the only planet which stays for longer time in one sign. During transit the aspect of other planets on Saturn are also to be carefully noted. An evil Saturn during transit, if aspected by good Jupiter becomes powerless to a great degree for making a mischief. where as aspect of Venus only reduces the evil actions by about 20°,. Besides aspects, conjunctions of a planet or planets with Saturn also to be taken into consideration for correct predic- tions. The position of Saturn & other planets in the Natal chart is also to be kept in view while analysing the transit. While considering the transit of Saturn in various signs. a general discription will not suffice unless the rules for transit of other planets are also taken into consideration. Such rules are briefed for the guidance of readers. They are malefic, benefic or neutral according to Chander lagan or Moon Ascendant known as Janam Rasi as Shown on Page 98. 2. Ina_ horoscope, lords of 1, 2, 4 5. 7.9, 10 houses are benefic but when lords of 4. 7 and 10 houses happen to be Kendra lords become malefic as per standard dictum. Houses 3, 6, 8, 11, 12 are malefic. 3. A Yog Karka planet is treated as most benefic but its power to do good is reduced‘as the planet is lord of 10th, and 9th, 7th & 9th, 4th & 9th, 10th & Sth, 7th & Sth, 4th & Sth. 4. A natural malefic becomes a benefic, if he owns a quadrant and becomes very powerful benefic if he owns a trine house. 5. A benefic owing a kendra house is malefic, but if placed in his own house in Kendar, he becomes highly benefic. 6. A planet owning benefic & malefic houses at the same time becomes neutral. 7. Also a benefic by ownership, if he occupies a malefic house (6,8,12, & partly 2,3.11) becomes a neutral. 8. A malefic by ownership, if posited in a benefic house, becomes a neutral and will do only mild evil. 9. Planets owing a benefic house alongwith the ownership of 6th, 8th, 9th or 12th house, becomes a neutral. He will do considerable evils during second half of their dasa & bhukti. 10. If a planet owing a benefic house alongwith the ownership of 2nd, 3rd, or 11th house will do good during their periods. 11. Anexalted planet will do most good when in exaltation. Kendar or trikona sign but if exaltation house is 6,8 or 12 the good results will be ordinary. 12. Natural malefic in 3rd. 6th & 11th houses produce good results, 9913. ‘A benelic planct occupying 6,8,12 houses becomes incap- able of doing much good with respect to the house he owns but reduces the malefic nature of the house, he occupies. 14, A malefic exalted planet in 6,8,12 house will reduce the malefic nature of the house he owns and the house where located. 15. A malefic planet when placed in benefic house reduces the malefic nature of the house he owns & benefic nature he occupies. 16. Ifa malefic occupies 6,8,12 house, will produce intense evils to the house he owns and occupies. 17. As regards the neutral planets, the effects are as summatris- ed in the following table: Planets When Results 1, Exalted in benefic sign very good results. 2, Exalted in 2,3, or 1! house —_good results. 3. Exalted in 6,8, or 12 house ordinary results. 4. Benefic house ordinary results. 5. 2,3. or 11 house. ordinary good results. 6. 6,8, 12 house, Destroys good results of house owns & occupy. Having analysed the planet from the above rules, one has to find the benefic or malefic nature of the Saturn or other planet and after that the transit results are considered by taking the Chander Lagan or Rasi. Horoscopic indications also should be studied and effects modified. The following points will also act as a guide for correct predictions. 1. A planet while transisting a favourable house identical with its exaltation, own or friendly signs will produce very good, or ordinary results, while in inimical or depression sign it will produce no good results. 2. Planets while transisting unfavourable houses identical with exaltation, own or friendly signs will produce only very 100mild, and ordinary bad results while in theie inimical and depression signs, will produce maximum evils, 3. If the transisting planet is benefic as per Chander Lagan according to foregoing table in the favourable houses, reduces the intensity of evils. 4. Ia planet is malefic to the native, good effects will be feeble when transitting through favourable houses, but when through unfavourable houses will cause maximum evils. 5. During transit, if the planet receives benefic aspect or association, good results will be felt by the native. But if as- pect or association is malefic the bad results will be maximum. 6. A natural benefic while transitting a favourable house, if retrograde, will intensity the good results. If the transitting house be mulefic, the evil results of transit will be reduced to minimum. 7. Anatural malefic while transitting a favourable house, if retrograde will neutralise the benelic results of transit. But in unfavourable house under retrograde motion, the maletic results will be accelrated. 8. Dasa and Bhukti of a benetic planct will produce good results during its transit in favourable houses to full extent. But in evil houses the evils of transit as well as the benetic nature of Dasa and Bhukti will be reduced. 9, Ifa malefic planet while operating its dasa and bhukti transits through a benefic house, it will reduce the benctic effects of transit. If it transits through an unfavourable house, the evils of transit will be increased. 10, Planets when transitting through. favourable places trom Moon, if eclipsed or obstructed by Sun's rays good results can not be produced. But if they be eclipsed or obstructed by the Sun’s rays while in favourable places from Moon. the evils will be maximum. Sun's ‘rays means witbin the erbs of Sun. When the planct is powerless. The range of orb is froin 8° to 17° as shown below. 101Moor when is within 12° from Sun. Mars when is within 17° from Sun. Mercury when is within 14° from Sun. when it is retorgrade 12° from Sun. Jupiter when is within 11° from sun. Venus when is within 10° from sun. when it is retrograde 8° from sun Saturn when is within 15° from sun. Then applying and separating effect takes place. 11. If a planet during transit in a favourable place from Moon be hemmed between two malefics, the good results of transit will not be felt, where as, when transitting unfavourable places under malefic fortification, the evils results will be felt to the greatest extent. 12. Ifa planet while transitting 4 favourable place be hemmed in between two benefic plancts, the good result of transit will be- maximum. If the transit be through unfavour- able places and the planet is fortified by benefics, the evil results of the transit will not be realised. 13. Jf there bea benefic planet in 4th, 5th, 8th or 9th house reckoned from a planct who is transiting through a benefic place, the good results will be realised to the full extent, where as if the transitting place be unfavourable under similar conditions, the evil results may not be felt. 14. If there is a malefic planet in the 4th, Sth, 8th, or 9th house reckoned from a transitting planet who is favourable, the good effect of transit will be neutralised’ But if the transit be malefic under similar conditions, the evils will be accelrated. 15. When a planet transitting through an auspicious sign is subjected Jo Vedha by another planet, the good effect of the planet will be checked. The Vedha points are of utmost importance in transit and are detailed. The nominator show benefic transit of a planet where as denominator denote obstruction point or Vedha point for each planet. Raman and Mr. Jupitor have stressed the use of this system in transit on the basis and dictum laid down by our sages. But Prof. Krishna murti has classed this system as absured. (Vide Pages 311 to 313 Reader III) but the experic- nce of the author shows that this systems works marvellously, no doubt it entails lengthy calculations. (For which refer to some standard works of Mr. B.V. Raman), After erecting the Ashtakvarga and Satvashtakvarga Tables please note when a planet transit through the signs where they have more than 4 benefic bindus or dots in their Ashtakvarga or more than 25 dots in Sarvashtakavarga table produce good results despite their transitting through evil position from Radical Moon. 10317. Planets when they transit through sign where they have less than 25 dots will produce evil results inspite of their transit- ing through benefic places. If the transitting places be also malefic, the native will feel the maximum evils, 18. Converse Vedha:- While refering to point 15 supra we have mentioned Vedha points for planets from their auspicious places of Transit. Likewise we detail below the inauspicious places of the planets and their Vedha points which check the unfavourable results. In this case the inauspicious places have been counted from radical Moon or Moon Ascendant where as Vedha Points are counted from the transiting place. This is called “CONVERSE VEDHA”. This point has been brought up by Pandit Copesh Kumar Ojha in his Book “Hindu Predictive Astrology”. He says that suppose the Moon is in Cancer, now 4th from Cancer will be Libra. So if sun transits Libra, his influence will be un- favourable for the native. By this Principal of converse Vedha, not only the adverse influence is nullified, but even the evil transit becomes good. Readers are requested to check the effects of this converse Vedha. Having full regards of the all above rules of the transit, the accurate effects of Saturn may be analysed during transit period and predictions can be offered. The broad, coincise and general effects of the Transit of Saturn in various houses and signs is given below which should be modified after taking into account the above rules. SATURN’S TRANSIT IN VARIOUS HOUSES Saturn will produce good results in 3rd, 6th and 11th houses during transit, in other places, the results shall be malefic.
