June 1944: 551st Bomb Squadron Mission Loading Lists July 30, 1943 to May 8, 1945
Entry (NM6) 7A 8th AF Mission Reports, Box 5179 US Army Air Forces Combat Missions 1941-

RG 59
ARC 2530002/MLR A1 1357; only files relating to Fresnes Prison activities and interrogations of
US airmen, August 1944. The first folder related to Fresnes dated 1941. The second group
specifically related to your Dad, but did not mention him or anyone among that group.
RG 153, specifically 153.13.1 (War Crimes Branch, World War II), as pertinent but especially
RG 153
War Crimes Branch, Case Files 1944-1949.
These individual case files were crimes committed against US POWs as evidence to formulate
the various charges against the perpetrators during the war crimes tribunal.12-41 (2 bxs), 12-
317 (1 bx), 12-429 (3 bxs), 12-811 (1bx), 12-840 (1bx), 12-925 (1 bx), 12-953 (1 bx), 12-1385 (1
bx), 12-1749 (1 bx), 12-2165 (1 bx), 100-427 (4 bxs). The records from the files; in particular
12-811 all hit on the exact dates for your Dad and all his peers but there is no document that
specifically mentions any of the men, to include T/Sgts Pacha, Shearer, Suddock, S/Sgts
Horrigan, S/Sgts Cortes, Heimerman, Johnson, Ludwig, Martini, Masters, Pacton, Pelletier,
Reynolds, Richey, Ritter, Vailee, Watson, Share, Scott, Wilson, Leiser, JD Coffman, Paul Wilson,
Fred Carr, Mark Williams, Pennell, and the crew from Wilson's aircraft including Scheffner,
Davidson, Sivak, Miller, and Holdridge. The B-26 aircraft for Paul Wilson was 31013843, of the
391st. Scheffner is actually James F. Shofner. That aircraft also had 2LT Earl J. Rugg and 1LT
Thomas J. Flake Jr. However, Flake was sick for that mission and replaced by Shofner. Also
reviewed Kaltenbrunner and Pister; looking for material related to the tribunal and the sentences
that would directly co-inside with the wrongful treatment of POWs. Also retrieved all records
associated to Joseph Moser (US), Merle Larson (US), Phil Lamason (Brit), Edward Yeo-Thomas
(Brit), Christopher Burney (Brit), Alfred Balachowsky, Jan Robert (Dutch), Bernard Scharf (US),
and Splinter Spierenburg (Brit).
Entry 137 boxes 59-68, all with the last name beginning with M. Name collection of records
from repatriated POWs returning home.
12-390 (24 boxes) associated with Wilson and Carr. The largest group of records from the trials
related to KLB.

RG 238
Nuremberg War Crimes Trials evidence for the Medical Cases that involved captured airmen.
This will document the types of experiments, but not specifically to particular prisoners.
RG 319
Entry 134A : Box 19, NNMH 84, Project Paperclip 1946 only
File XE065587and Box 76-81, NND911087, File ZF010389
Formerly classified MIS-X report on violations of the Geneva Convention at Stalag 7A which
describes the capture and treatment of several American servicemen, including F. Martini
We have the declassified Appendix of that report, which specifically addresses
Buchenwald, but not the report itself, which would provide information about his time in 7A. Is it
possible that the interviews of the ex-KLB prisoners that were the basis of that Appendix are
held in the NARA files?
This is really the only report that I could not obtain lacking finding aids, assistance from
Amy Schmidt, or time. I did come across an entire box related to the treatment of POWS at all
the camps, which included Stalag II and VIIA, but unfortunately they all dated from 1941-1943.

RG 338
ARC 5306377/MLR P 50483 (Investigation of the Buchenwald Concentration Camp)
ARC 5044329/MLR P 50483 (Reports of Investigations)
These were 10 boxes from the Inspector General III US Army on all kinds of investigations. I
copied the entire file on Buchewald, which did not mention US POWs. There was one report
about US soldiers being held at a US administered Concentration Camp, which turned out to be
a newspaper article about a soldier who could not find his unit and ended up in a transient camp
for 30 days where they were placed in solitary confinement if they did not follow the rules.
