Case study:
4. In one taluk , Dalits traditionally took part in a risky ritual of Sidi. The ritual involves
men being tied to wooden pole with the help of a hook inserted into the body and women
walking with their mouths locked with iron hooks.
The Dalit samiti of the district has submitted a memorandum to the district administration
to avoid the inhuman ritual during the fair this year.
In the last few years they have been submitting the petitions to the District administration
but no action was taken. The Caste divides run deeper in the District. Upper castes hold
majority power in the district politics and administration.
This year, you are posted as a DM of this district. And the Samiti submitted a petition
directly to you.
