CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT PLAN (OVERVIEW)

SU: Windham Central Supervisory Union School: NewBrook Elementary School Date: June 5, 2017

PHASE 1: Assess Needs and Innovate (see p. 5-8 for support)

Shared Vision: The mission of NewBrook Elementary School, in partnership with families and the community, is to provide a safe, inclusive and supportive
school environment. We strive to encourage our students to grow academically, socially and emotionally while challenging each of them to reach their potential
as community members. It is essential for NewBrook Elementary School to continually offer a diverse range of learning opportunities which utilize highly
effective and consistent teaching practices and curriculum to assist our students in becoming reflective lifelong learners.

Collaborative Stakeholders Represented: To develop this Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP), we incorporated feedback from the following sources:
We used anonymous Google survey tools to collect data and opinions from our students (grades 2-6).
We used anonymous Google survey tools to collect data and opinions from our families.
We used anonymous Google survey tools to collect data and opinions from our staff.
We incorporated our SWIS data.
We employed a National School Reform Faculty protocol in a faculty meeting to collect additional the data and opinions from staff.
Some of the contents of this CIP were informed by the work that the Windham Central Supervisory Union (WCSU) Leadership Team (LT) completed
to prepare the WCSU CIP.

Broad Area(s) of Focus Based on Data Review:

Professional Learning in ELA and Mathematics
Professional Learning for Instructional Leaders
Further Development of a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for our Students
The Implementation of Tier II Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBiS)

Identified Priority Problems/Problems of Practice: Our achievement data indicates that NewBrook students are not all performing at the level needed to
meet state standards in English/Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. The WCSU has prioritized professional development (PD) in the areas of ELA and
Math instruction. The PD will also include MTSS frameworks that will expand our ability to modify, accommodate and engage every student at NewBrook.

Root Cause Analysis Results: Our data clearly illustrates a fundamental need for a coherent K-6 math curriculum here at NewBrook. After a study of our
SWIS data, it is clear that we are losing an alarming amount of academic time with some of our neediest students due to behavioral issues that need to be
addressed.

Theory of Action: The WCSU Leadership team has been working to develop a Theory of Action to address our students needs and their root causes. We
recognize that we need to further develop and refine a Theory of Action with the purpose of creating a systemic and unified approach to our professional
development and our instruction. Through these goals below, we hope to continue our work aimed at enhancing our offering to the families we serve and
encouraging new families to move into the WCSU.

Prioritized Goals
What do we want to By June of 2018, NewBrook students grades K-6 will habitually use effective and varied problem solving
accomplish? Goal #1 strategies, models and both written and oral math language in order to express their thinking and understanding
of grade level math concepts and skills. Our staff will promote the development of these habits through the use
of the Eureka Math curriculum and associated products. As a result, 100% of our students will reach proficiency
on the spring benchmark as demonstrated by SBAC as well as the other assessments outlined in the WCSU
Local Common Assessment Plan (LCAP).
What change can we make We will support our staff as they work to accomplish this goal through the following actions:
that will result in Our WCSU Math Coach will lead a two-day introduction to Eureka math products in June of 2017.
improvement? NewBrook staff will spend time learning about the Eureka scope and sequence and then will have time
to plan together and share their work.
Our Director of Curriculum and Instruction will lead parts of our Grade Level Meetings (GLAMs)
during the 2017-18 school year in order to ensure longitudinal coordination of math teaching practices,
math language and math curriculum.
The WCSU will be providing PD for all staff oriented towards the longitudinal coordination of math
teaching practices, math language and math curriculum throughout the WCSU.
Primarily during our Skills Blocks, we will provide intervention and support for students who are
performing below grade level expectations. Our interventionists will review student data with classroom
teachers after each benchmark and they will regularly utilize benchmark and progress monitoring data in
order to inform their delivery of systematic, tier two interventions.
Here at NewBrook, we will devote one faculty meeting each month towards the sharing of Eureka math
practices and solving problems as they arise in our new implementation of the curriculum.
How will we know our We will continue to use the results of our LCAP to regularly adjust our Skills Block groupings in order to
interventions and/or remediate and enrich appropriately for every child. Our classroom teachers will meet monthly with our
innovations resulted in interventionists to look at benchmark and progress monitoring data, to determine small groupings and the
improvements? specific skills that will be targeted during the interventions.

Assessment Plan (LCAP).

In preparation for the 2019-20 school year, the WCSU will be providing PD for all staff oriented
towards the longitudinal coordination of ELA teaching practices, language and ELA curriculum
throughout the WCSU.
We will continue to hone our use of Fundations in grades K-3. Specifically, we will move towards a
more consistent approach to the use of the tools in the universal setting as well as in small groups as a
double dose.
A subcommittee will explore and consider our current ELA curriculum needs, hoping to move towards
the piloting of research-based reading programs during the 2019-20 school year. We will assess our
Fundations delivery to ensure program fidelity. This work could include sharing our work with teachers
at other WCSU elementary schools through peer observations.

What do we want to During the 2017-18 school year, we will promote a safe, friendly, orderly and student-centered school
accomplish? Goal #3 environment here at NewBrook by fully implementing Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBiS) at
the Tier II level.
What change can we make We will support our staff as they work to accomplish this goal through the following actions:
that will result in We will form a PBiS Tier II committee consisting of a variety of NewBrook staff members who will
improvement? work to implement Tier II PBiS interventions for students grades K-6.
We will send representatives from our PBiS Tier II team to PBiS trainings that will support their Tier II
work.
We will continue to take advantage of the PBiS coaching from our PBiS consultant (possibly) and the
WCSU Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
How will we know our We will look at our Swis Data regularly: monthly in our faculty meetings and in our Tier I meetings and bi-
interventions and/or weekly in our Tier II meetings. This data will inform universal interventions as well as our Tier II interventions.

What do we want to During the 2017-19 school years, we will explore our current use of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
accomplish? Goal #4 here at NewBrook.

What change can we make We will support our staff as they work to accomplish this goal through the following actions:
that will result in We will enhance our Educational Support Team (EST) process to include a more aggressive
improvement? information gathering and triage phase prior to a formal EST meeting. This work will be completed by
the classroom teacher and supported by our interventionists in their regular data meetings.
Our interventionists will formalize a system for the identification, the scheduling and exiting of non-
special education academic supports for our students.
We will plan and execute PD in faculty meetings intended to share strategies leading to tiered lesson
planning and differentiated instruction.
We will create a task force of interested staff willing to review the MTSS Field Guide and bring specific
high impact pieces for our staff to consider implementing.
How will we know our We will see a decrease in Special Education and EST referrals.

Worksheet). Describe the changes you made during your improvement cycles. Use as many cycles as needed to ensure the change is an
improvement ready for implementation.

PHASE 3: Implement and Spread (see p. 10 for support)

How will you make this change a part of the standard work/process in your context? Apply PDSA cycles for implementation and attach PDSA
Worksheet(s) (see Appendix C for PDSA Worksheet). Describe the factors you considered during full implementation.

PHASE 4: Sustain (See p. 11 for support)

Explain the decisions required to sustain this work/process over time and how resources will be allocated for sustainability.
