Appropriation and linking texts
Introduce John Brack's Collin St, 5pm.
Talk about the techniques that have
been used. Show the Lost Thing picture
which is very similar. Do they both
express the same issues? Do they both
represent ideas of identity? Introduce
the idea of appropriation. they have
used that in their story. see how it is
important to understand appropriation
to know the way information changes.
Give them a coloured piece of
paper, this will be used to set out
for their comparative study of two
texts. Include your statement that
you believe runs through both texts.
They will pick a main text, a related
text deciding on 3 ideas and 3
techniques that allign within both
texts. These texts will be used to
facilitate further questions relating
to identity.

Hand out technique worksheet, they will
find the technique, an example and will
come back later to find the impact it has.
Watch the movie through before
discussing what they came up with. Lead
into the impact the techniques have on
deciding the identity for eg. The
omniscient narrator foreshadows the
direction of the story, creates the mood
and determines the ending of Tom's
position with himself and with Summer.
