2.0 SCOPE
ThisProcedurecovers theworkmethodforelectricalworksinaccordancewith
drawingsandstandardstobeusedintheUp-gradationof KonabanGGSand
PipelineGridProjectof TripuraAssetConstructionWorkbyKSS.

6.0 METHODOLOGY
LAYINGOFCABLE
1. InspectionofcabledrumshallbecarriedoutforitsconformitywithONGCSpecs.
Beforepullingthecables.Cablesshallbelaidintrenches,cabletraysorconduits
asrequired.
2. Beforecablelaying,cableroutinggivenonthelayoutdrawingsshallbecheckedin
thefieldtoavoidinterferencewithstructures,heatresources,drains,piping,air
conditioningductetc.andminoradjustmentsifrequired,shallbedonetosuitthe
fieldconditionswithinformationtoONGC.
3. Cabledrumshallberolledinthedirectionindicationonthesideof thedrum.Care
should be taken to avoid sharp turns, tension, twists etc. in order to avoid
mechanicalinjuries to thecables.
4. Highvoltage,mediumvoltageandothercontrolcablesshallbeseparated from
eachotherbyadequatespacingorrunningthroughindependentpipes,trenches
orcablestrays,asapplicable.
5. Cablingforfirewatersystemshallbeasfaraspossibletakeninexclusiveroute
throughundergroundtrench.
6. Allcableroutes shallbecarefullymeasuredandcablescuttotherequiredlengths,
leavingsufficientlengthforthefinalconnectionofthecabletotheterminalofthe
equipment.Thequantityindicatedinthecablescheduleisonlyapproximate.
7. Allcableroutesshallbecarefullymeasuredandcablecuttotherequiredlength,
leavingsufficientlengthforterminationtoequipment.
8. Cablesshallbeneatly arrangedinthetrenches/traysinsuchamannerthatcriss
crossingisavoidedandfinaltakeofftothemotor/switchgearisfacilitated.Cable
routingbetweenlinedcabletrenchandequipment/motorsshallbetakenthrough
GIpipesleevesofadequatesize.
9. Allcableswillbeidentifiedclosetotheirterminationpointbycablenumbersas
perthecableschedule.
10.Directlyburiedcableshall belaidundergroundinexcavatedcabletrenches.
11.Beforethestartofcablelayingdrumscheduleshallbepreparedanditshallbe
followed&recorded.
12.Trenchesshallbeofsufficientdepthandwidthforaccommodationofallcables
correctlyspacedandarrangedwithaviewofheatdissipationandeconomyof design.
13. Minimumdepthofburiedcablestrenchshallbe900mmfor lowvoltage.The

I . Cable trenches, to be dug, should be according to specified length, width, and depth
asper theapproved construction drawings. Cable laying, dressinq, testing, qualified
workmen shalldocrimping &termination.
18. Cables shall beneatly arranged inthetrench/trays insuch amanner so that the
criss-crossing is avoided and final take off to equipment and local panels is facilitated.
19. To protect cable against dirt&moisture their ends shall besealed with aPVCor
Rubber hood (ifrequired).
20.AII Ihe specified tests for the cables shall be performed asper ONGC standards
andshould berecorded onapproved formats anddocumented properly.
21.Cable markers shall beusedaspertheONGC standards and Specification.
Earthing Materials
1. The earthing materials shall be checked for any damage caused during
transportation quantity withpacking list.
2. Allhardware used forearthing installation shall behotdip galvanized. Thickness
ofhotdipgalvanizing shallnotbelessthan75microns.
3. Theearthelectrode andearth plateshallbeasperONGC standard.

9. Thefollowing shallbeearthed:
a)System neutral.
b)Current andPotential Transformer Secondary Neutral.
0)Lightning!arrestors.
d)Alltransformers, switchgear andtheirearth buses, busduct. e)Motor
frames. Etc
10.Lightning protection- shall be provided for the equipment, structures and
buildings which arehigher than20meters oraspertheriskindexanalysis worked out.
11. The shield wire shall be connected with main grid solidly andnot through
supporting steelstructures.
1i2. Lightjng fixtures shall be earthed through the extra core provided inthe lighting cable
forthispurpose.

'Battery Bank
1. FlOOring, cable entries and floor supporting steelwork will be checked, before transport
ofbatteries andother accessories.
2. Battery rackswillbeassembled asperapproved relevant.drawings.
3. Battery rackwillbepositioned aspertheapproved layoutdrawings.
4. Battery cells wHIbe placed onthe rack suitably soastopermit connection ofthe positive
andnegative terminals according tothewiring diagram.
5. Electrolyte willbeprepared aspervendor speeitlcation,
6,.. Electrolyte willbeadded intothebattery cells byusing aclean plastic funnel and
jug,fromthetopofvent.
7. Check the batterycells for electrolyte levels after 30 minutes and add the electrolyte,
if the level has dropped. Check specific gravity &cell'veltage before charging.
8. Ba.tterybankterminals willbeconnected tothecharging UPSorBatterycharger.
9. Polarity bechecked atthebattery terminals.
10. Itwinbeensured thatcell vent caps are inclosed position before charging,(Itwin:
beopenduring charging).
11. Battery bank charging/dischargingwill be conducted as per vendor
recommendations.

All cubicles, switches, starters, CT &PT chambers, bus bar chamber will be cleaned
andchecked fortightness ofallthecomponents.
Inter-panel wiring/bus coupling will bedone at site as per interconnection details
andvendor recommendations.
Allloosely supplied itemswillbeinstalled aspervendor's recommendations.
Incoming cables willbeterminated inadressed manner andproper supporting for heavy
cables willbeensured.
Erection ofequipment willbeasper"Equlpment Layout" drawings.
Before equipment isfinally grouted, itwould beshown toCHentRepresentative for approval.
Electrical connections wiJIbemade asperconnections details.
Mechanical &Electrical operation ofbreaker, modules andinterlock shall be checked.
After termination, spare entrywillbeplugged withmetallic/PVC plugs.
Proper sizelugsandferrules would beprovided.

ofDC-to-DC converter system cabinet.
Proper leveling ofbaseframe willbeensured.
All loose wiring &accessories will be completed as per manufacturer
recommendanon.
Check outvoltage oftheconverter.
Incoming power supply, battery bank oonnection &outgoing feeder cables willbe checked.
Verification ofmaterial willbedoneasperpacking list.Anypartmissing/damaged would
bereported immediately
Erection ofequipment willbeasper "Equipment Layout" drawings.
Before equipment isfinally grouted, itwould beshown toClient Representative for approval.
Electrical connections willbemadeasperconnections details.
After terrninanon, spare entrywillbeplugged WithmetalliclPVC plugs.
