2. Learning Target(s): (What will students know & be able to do because of this lesson?)
Conduct research by gathering information, read a map, know how to help take care of our
environment, know where they live and what states they live near

3. Relevance/Rationale: (Why are the outcomes of this lesson important in the real world? Why
are these out comes essential for future learning?)
It is important for our future to be taking care of our planet. Conducting research is an essential
skill for future learning because you will be expected to know how in high school and college.

4. Formative Assessment Criteria for Success: (How will you & your students know if they have
successfully met the outcomes? What specific criteria will be met in a successful
product/process? What does success on this lessons outcomes look like?)
Students will be told what they are expected to get done before and during the lesson.
Each student must research and write down in full sentences two facts for each state: Nevada
and its neighboring states (Idaho, Oregon, Utah, Arizona, California). Draw a star or heart next
to the name of our home state. There will be encouragement for participation in discussions.

5. Activities/Tasks: (What learning experiences will students engage in? How will you use these
learning experiences or their student products as formative assessment opportunities?)
In the beginning of the lesson students will be researching and writing state facts in a computer
lab for about 30 mins. Afterwards they will be assigned small groups to talk about the new facts
they learned for about 5 mins. Lastly as a whole class we will discuss how can we protect our
environments such as saving water in NV.

computers with internet access, paper, pencils

appropriately in this lesson? Consider all aspects of student diversity.)
Everyone has access to a computer. May need extra help if they have trouble reading in English.

8. Modifications/Accommodations: (What curriculum modifications and/or classroom


accommodations will you make for Students with Disabilities in your class?
One student might work slower so they might be assigned to do one fact per state. If a student
is blind they might require an extra device such as JAWS to allow them to use the computer.
