Describethetask*

The aim of the task was to get all members across from one side of the room to the other without touching the
floor and placing mats to step on. Although, to make it more challenging the teams were provided objects to
take from one side to the other without dropping it on the floor. There were two teams overall but one team had
one less participant than the other. In my opinion, I believe the team I was placed in had a medium level of
team dynamic. This being because Im not particularly close with the other members on my team and most
were already fond of each other. For each part the teams were provided around 10 to 15 minutes. There were
a few rules to follow throughout the activity. For example, the main rule was that you werent allowed to step
off any mats and they must be returned back to the other side of the room with the rest of the team. There
were some restrictions at time when only the leader of the team was allowed to speak or when the leader had
to be at the front or back at all times.

Whatwasyourroleintheteam?*

During the activity, I helped to lead and contribute ideas to the team. When we were starting off I took the
initiative to lead the group through the task and we were just then getting used to it therefore, we lost the first
round. From then we switched leaders and from then on I was a team worker who would listen to whatever the
leader suggested but when silence loomed over us, I then provided some suggestions. Also, when provided
more objects to carry I took on the responsibility of carrying them both to allow everyone else more momentum
and time to think of how to then allow me easily take it over. In the end, I was more of a team worker than
leader.
Howdidyouperformasanindividual?*
As an individual, I believe I performed decently. I was able to listen and carry out any instructions provided to
me by the person who was in charge and I took on responsibilities others were afraid to take on. When
compared to other individuals on my team, maybe I couldve taken more responsibility when it came to
leadership. Although, I preferred the roles I performed during the activity since I was confident in my abilities.

If I was to relate this to Belbins theory then Id have to say that I was an implementer and team worker. I
believe I was an implementer because when I had an idea that I had wanted to share with the group or wanted
to perform during the next part of the task Id demonstrate it with little explanation. In the end, some of my
ideas I demonstrated were used but only by myself. I also say Im a team worker because the leader in our
group who would be different individuals differing from time to time, would inform us what to do and Id do it
without question.

Howdidyouperformasateam?*
As a team, I believe we performed quite moderately when compared to the other team. That couldve been
because the other team had much better cohesion when compared to ours or that they hard one more person
on their team allowing them to provide more ideas into their discussions and come to a more effective decision
than us. I say this because as a team we dont work together very well seeing as how Im not particularly fond
of them. I believe they feel the same towards me and others in the team. Hence our low team cohesion and
poor collaboration. Comparing the other team to ours, they obviously did such a better job and actually
understood each other for when it came to discussing ideas the others wouldnt really listen to anyone else
and the current leader acting would act very superior, which I found quite annoying and demotivational

If I was to relate this to Tuckmans theory, during the forming stage I was unpleased with the members and we
were finding our roles but quite often revisited this stage seeing as how the task made us switch our leader,
made some people unable to do certain actions and such. We didnt necessarily go through the storming stage
since we didnt have any arguments although and we didnt disagree with one another because I believe we all
thought there was no point to argue and create a bad relationship. Although, I could tell that the others in the
team werent putting their all into it or trying as hard as they should have. During the norming stage, we
adjusted to the circumstances we were in and knew what we had to do so there was rarely any communication
unless someone was taking too long so wed inform them to pick up the pace slightly. We didnt go through the
performing stage since we continued at this pace and ended up losing the task because we were slower due
to others not necessarily trying. The final stage, adjourning we easily split up seeing as how the others wanted
to get it over and done with as well as considering the fact we lost. The other team members were probably
upset with each other and unhappy with the results.

Whatwereyourstrengths?*

Whatwereyourweaknesses?*
As an individual, I believe my weaknesses consisted of communication, supporting others and motivation. I
didnt necessarily want to talk to the other group members and only spoke when it came to showing my ideas
or telling others to hurry up. Another weakness was that I didnt really support the other team members in the
group nor help to motivate them to carry on and increase their work efficiency.
Howcouldyouimprovefornexttime?*
As an individual, next time I believe I should communicate more and join in within the decision-making and
overall as a whole. If I was to communicate within the task I believe maybe I couldve helped to motivate the
remainder of the team so that theyd feel as if it was worth putting more effort into, which couldve helped to
win us the task. Along with that, I couldve helped to further discuss any other ideas anyone brought up to
question it fully like I did within the football transfer activity.

As a team, I believe we couldve put more effort into it and helped to motivate each other more often, which
allow us to try our best and effectively work together instead of staying silent and just going along with
whatever the rest of the group agreed on. I didnt have any problems with Connor nor Jack for they spoke and
tried. Although, Milo and Aliza were very quiet and didnt comment at all or discuss. This may sound
hypocritical of me but the only times they would speak up is when we were in the middle of the activity and just
telling the other to hurry up.

Wasthereanyconflict(challenges,restricitions:silence,leadermustbe@front/back,arguements,
disagreements,changes,difficulties)inthegroup?*
There was quite a bit of conflict between us since there were a lot of challenges presented to us while we were
doing the activity. Each team was given the same restriction varying from there having to be silence amongst
everyone so we couldve discuss anything during the task, the leader must be located at the very front at all
times or the back. I believe the other group members were getting quite fed up with all the changes and
difficulties it provided to when we performed the task so we werent on the best terms with one another and
helping each other. We didnt manage to resolve any conflict that had arisen since everyone was very
uncooperative at the end.

Howelsecouldyouuserelevanttheorytoanalysetheoverallperformancetoday?*
If I was to analyse our performance during the activity and relate it to some theories weve previously learnt
about then, I believe our group was very laissez-faire for we basically just did what we wanted with the leader
giving very few orders so we were a mix of laissez-faire and autocratic. Although, the majority of the time it
was laissez-faire since the all the leaders would do was state who was what role and then let us carry on with
the task at hand.

If I was to refer this to Belbins theory, our group comprised of team workers, plants, implementer and at times
a co-ordinator. I say this because some members would only do what they were told to do by the leader (team
worker) while others worked on ways to solve problems that had arisen and were quite creative with their
approach to the task and during the task. I, myself was the implementer within the group who showed his
ideas practically/visually rather than verbally. Finally, the leader would be the coordinator but didnt necessarily
focus on driving the team forward but did delegate work and focus on our objective.
