An introduction to

AULs
A. Halford and A. Kellerman
Who are we?
We are the Assessment of
Understanding and
Quantifying Progress Towards
Science Understanding and
Operational Readiness
(AUQPTSU&OR) working

Forum for Space Weather

(IFSWCA)
What is an AUL

AUL stands for Application

Usability Level.

This provides a framework to

show how far along a specific
research product is towards
being used regularly for a
specific application.
Application

Why use an AUL
A way to easily communicate to
the scientific community and
potential end users how close
your application is to being
ready for regular use.

Creating a framework for people

to show their progress will allow
for more eyes on your research,
more citations, and better
science.

Using the framework allows for a

path of communication between
scientists and end users
When should I use an AUL

When you have a clearly

defined end product in mind
e.g.

A new data set

A new research model

A new forecasting tool

Where
Can I learn more

At our website
SpaceWx.weebly.com

Can I submit and update

my AULs for others to find out
about it.

Not yet but hopefully soon

on our site and/or at the
CCMC.
How do I get involved?
