INTRODUCTION
COURSES OFFERED
The College of Engineering (COE) was conceptualized when the Technological
University of the Philippines (TUP) acquired its university status on July 11, 1978
by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 1518. Conceived to cater to the needs of the
technician graduates of the programs Civil Engineering Technology, Electronics
Technology and Mechanical Technology, the College started its operation in
1979 implementing the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE),
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and Bachelor of Science in
Mechanical Engineering (BSME) curricula with very limited number of inputs.
Realizing the unpredictable and very limited number of inputs from the
technician courses, the College openits doors to high school graduates in 1980.
With a blend of theory and skills, COE has produced highly employable
graduates and numerous placers at the CE, EE and ME Board Examinations
since 1984.
Recognizing the increasing demand for electronics and communications
engineers, COE added and implemented the Bachelor of Science in Electronics
and Communications Engineering (BSECE) curriculum in 1990 by virtue of
Resolution No. 004 s 1989. Graduate engineering programs leading to the
degree Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE), Master of Science in
Electrical Engineering (MSEE) and Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering
(MSME) were offered in cooperation with the Graduate School and the
Integrated Research and Training Center (IRTC) in 1992 through BOR
Resolution No. 335 s 1995, to meet the needs of engineers who wish to pursue
higher and advanced learning in their chosen field.
Selected by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) as one of the
nineteen (19) engineering network schools, COE participated in the development
of the Master of Engineering Program (MEP) by virtue of BOR Referendum No.
07 s 1995, the Master of Engineering (MEngg) was implemented via the
Philippine Association for Technical Education (PATE Inc.) consortium with UST,
DLSU, MIT and AdU.
In its continuous pursuit of excellence and quality in engineering education, the
College of Engineering was awarded Level III Accredited Status since 2011 by
the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities of the Philippines
(AACCUP). It has also achieved the recognition of CHED as Center of
Development in civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering programs in 1999.
TUP MISSION
The Technological University of the Philippines shall provide higher and
advanced vocational, technical, industrial, technological and professional
education and training in industries and technology and in practical arts leading
to applied research certificates, diplomas and degrees. It shall provide
progressive leadership in developmental studies in technical, industrial and
technological fields and production using indigenous materials, effect technology
transfer in the countryside; and assist in the development of small and medium
scale industries in identified growth centers.

The engineering graduate programs at TUP are two types, (1) the highly
specialized, and research oriented Master of Science in Engineering programs
(MS) and (2) the inter-disciplinary, industry-oriented Master of Engineering.
The Master of Science requires a masters thesis for graduation while the Master
of Engineering, a special project with industry as practicum.
