3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
3.1 Shop Application:
The equipment items applicable/described in the table 8.1 shall be prepared
for coating and have the coating system applied before installation. Curing times
between successive coats shall be in Accordance with those recommended by the
Paint manufacturer.

3.1.1 Paint shall be applied in accordance with the Manufacturers recommendations. The
Manufacturers printed instructions for surface preparation, mixing, thinning,
buffering and application shall be considered as part of this specification and strictly
followed.

3.1.2 Paint shall be applied only on thoroughly dry, clean surfaces and during periods of
favourable weather for field painted surfaces unless otherwise allowed by the paint
Manufacturer.

3.1.3 For field painted surfaces, painting shall not be permitted when the ambient
temperature is below 10C (50F) or when freshly painted surfaces may be
damaged by rain, fog, hail, dust or condensation and/or when it can be anticipated
that these conditions will prevail during the drying period.

3.1.4 All materials shall be applied in smooth, even coats without runs, sags, bare spots,
orange peel, overspray or other blemishes.

3.2 Site Applications:

After completion of known field weld activities, weld areas shall be given with specified
abrasive surface preparation per table 3.2 or power tool clean the weld areas of 50mm.
follow the touch up paint on local areas. And over to this top coat shall be applied as
specified in the Table.

3.3 Surfaces Not To Be Painted:

The following items shall not be painted unless otherwise specified:
Equipment supplied completely finish painted.
Hot dip galvanized coatings
Stainless steel, plastic, aluminium, bronze, Nickel
Equipment made from aluminium, galvanized carbon steel, stainless steel or
other materials that do not required protection shall not be painted
Machined Surfaces
Contact surfaces of slip critical type Bolted joints in structural steel work.
Rubber lined components.
Acoustic or textured ceiling materials.
Metal surface embedded in concrete.
Jacketing materials on insulated surfaces.
Flange Face
The service or line pipes internal, Flanges machined faces, Fittings,
Threads are not to be painted.
The Underside of steel base plate and any other Grouting/ Embedded
surfaces.

3.4 Handling and Transport:

All equipment or parts that have been finish coated shall be handled with care to
preserve the coating in the best practical condition. Fabric covered slings or similar
precautions shall be used to protect paintwork during lifting.
Equipment shall not be handled until the coating has completely cured and dried hard.
Wherever possible, wooden supports in contact with coated equipment during
transport and storage shall be covered with a soft equipment and holding down chains
to prevent damage to the coating.

3.5 Sub-Supplier Equipments:

Unless specified otherwise, the sub suppliers equipment / Bought-out items
PAINTING SYSTEM are manufactures standards i.e GearBox, Electric Motors, Pumps,
Valves, Instruments, Hoists, Control Panel, Power Pack & Auto Lubrication Unit..etc.

4.0 SURFACE PREPARATION:

Applicable metal surfaces are Dry Sandblasted to Following Profiles:

4.1 PREFFRED SURFACE PROFILE :

Preferably near white metal SSPC-SP 10 or equivalent Swedish std. SA 2
ISO 8501-1

Minimum Commercial Blast : SSPC SP6 or Equivalent Swedish Standard SA 2

IS0 8501-1

Good quality graded silica sand of a mesh size shall be used to obtain the proper
anchor profile for the coating specified.
All cleaned surfaces shall be primed in the same day when cleaning is performed
by dust down before painting. Prior to blasting all weld areas for removal of weld flux,
spatter, slivers and other foreign objects, All sharp edges, fillets, corners and welds
shall be rounded by grinding.
Surface preparation and coating shall not be carried out in inadequate light or wet
weather and shall be carried out such that the surface being coated is free of moisture,
wind-borne or blast cleaning dust. All visible burrs, laminations, slivers, and scabs shall
be removed or repaired after blasting.
After blasting and immediately before spraying, dust and loose residues shall be
removed by brushing, blowing off with clean dry air, or vacuum cleaning.

Coatings shall not be applied if:

The relative humidity exceeds 85%
The ambient temperature is less than 10C, or

The metal temperature is less than 3c above the dew point.

During rain, fog, hail, dust or condensation and/or when it can be anticipated.

5. Coating Application:
All cleaned surfaces shall be primed in the same day when cleaning is performed.
Cleaned surfaces left unprimed for one night or on which rain falls or dust settles shall
be re-cleaned before priming.
The method of application shall be governed per the paint manufacturer's
recommendations for the particular coating being applied. Each coat shall be applied
uniformly over the entire surface, runs, sags and drips shall be avoided. Coating shall be
free from pin holes, bubbles and holidays. When these occur, they shall be brushed out
immediately or material shall be removed and the surface re-painted .Upon completion of
fabrication, any damage to paint system shall be repaired.

5.1 Damaged Galvanized Surfaces:

Damaged galvanized areas larger than 3 mm in diameter, caused by oxy-cutting, welding or
physical
impact shall be treated as follows:
Prepare the surface by removing any weld slag followed by vigorous power
wire brushing of the coating surrounding the damaged area over a 50 mm distance
Clean surface to remove all dust
Apply two coats of organic zinc-rich primer to a minimum dft of 100 microns,
and
Apply suitable aluminium paint in accordance with the manufacturers instructions to a
dry film thickness of 40 m. The colour shall be matched to the surrounding finish
colour.
6. PIPES
All the pipes shall be painted in the pre-fabrication workshop.
Only the touch-ups of welds during installation and damaged areas during transport
or handling will be applied on site.

6.1 PIPING AND SUPPORT EQUIPMENT

Auxiliary piping supports, such as supports T, and equipment supports shall be
painted as the frame with the paint system for temperatures below 120 C and the
nature of the substrate, the presence of insulation ..., etc.

The welded pipe supports (e.g. Pads) shall be painted with the same paint system
as the line, with the same final colour. In the case of non-painted lines, welded
support shall receive the most suitable paint system to the operating temperature of
the line.

7. REPAIR OF DEFECTS AND DAMAGE

Any defect or damage should be repaired prior to application of other layers.

Areas for retouching shall be vigorously cleaned of grease, oil or other pollution and
shall be dried.
Runs, sags, blisters, bare spots, orange peel, bubbles, fish eyes, pinholeing, mud
cracking, dry spray, over and under DFT, delaminations, lack of adhesion, etc., are
paint defects and shall be corrected by repainting.
